Romantic and Charming Cottage With Stunning Sea Views in rural location

Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Detached Sea View Cottage near Laureana Cilento, Campania - All Year Round, Countryside Location, 15 Min Drive To Beaches, Great Walks.

Villa Nerola is unique. It is a detached homely cottage for two set in stunning countryside with spectacular sea views (guests tell us the photos don't do the property or the view justice) together with peace and tranquility. You instantly have a sense of being on top of the world in the little piece of paradise. Open all year round. It is only 15 minutes drive to the sandy beach at Baia di Trentova just outside Agropoli. There are sea views (and sunsets) from the patio, garden, sitting room and bedroom. It has a galleried bedroom, spacious open plan living and is well equipped for a self catering holiday. It has a private patio to the front and private garden to the side and patio surrounded by shrubs and plants with a plunge pool from the end of May to September. In the autumn and winter the lower terrace provides another area from which to sit and marvel at the sea view. It is in a rural location and offers spectacular sea views, stunning sunsets across to the Amalfi coast, countryside and wildlife although only a short drive to all amenities. Together with the owners' house it is set in 5 acres of land and countryside bordering the Cilento National Park. The quiet and secluded cottage makes a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sense of calm and tranquility that is so hard to find these days. We offer a 4x4 car to hire to our guests as our private track is steep, winding and uneven. We can either collect from Naples airport (100 euros each way) or from Agropoli-Castellabate railway station (no charge). The cottage is warm and cosy in the winter as it has a wood burning stove - light and airy in the summer with a plunge pool to cool down. A great location from which to explore the many medieval hilltop villages, a choice of sandy beaches and pretty coastal towns. The Greek temples at Paestum are only 25 mins away. The Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius are only 90 mins away. The grotto at Castelcivita is 1hr drive. Buffalo farms to try out the creamy mozzarella and other produce are 20 mins drive with the only organic farm in southern Italy located near Paestum called Vannulo. Boat trips. Plenty of local countryside/sea walks, endless wildlife, peace, tranquillity, views that change during the day, sunsets to marvel at. There is plenty to do in the area at any time of year or just relax and watch the landscape change before your eyes from the sitting room or gardens. We provide books, cds and dvds for lazy days together with maps and local information for venturing out.

The Thalasso Spa at San Marco di Castellabate is only 25 mins drive and they offer a tantalising range of massages and beauty treatments, a 3 hour 'Sea Path' to try out all the different pools, steam rooms etc.

Ferries run from Salerno port to Capri and the Amalfi coast from April to October. In July and August the smaller ferries run to Capri and south to Acciaroli and Palinuro.

About the Owner

Richard and I found the property under a pile of brambles in 2006 and after 2 years of hard labour restored it back to its former glory. Together with the stunning views across to the Amalfi coast it really is a little piece of heaven up here on the hill. The surrounding countryside is very attractive with rollings hills, mountains in the distance and the sea being only 15 mins drive away. What more could you ask for! This part of the Cilento is still very much unknown and therefore unspoilt so let's just keep it between us....

Most relaxing & private holiday & stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Nerola for 7 weeks in July and August 2016 and had the most relaxing holiday we have ever had in Italy. Vanessa and Richard are very friendly and accommodating with great respect for privacy and, as such, supplied us with a mobile phone in case we needed help and also to check before they visited us for whatever reason. They live only about 60 metres away. They gave us a hamper of food and drink to start us off. The bottle of wine was a very good one and the best we had on our holiday.

We were met at Naples airport by Vanessa and driven back to Villa Nerola, which is a great way to start a holiday. On the way, as we got closer to ‘home’, Vanessa kindly deviated a little to point out places that could be of interest, like where to shop, eat and drink, etc. This was very useful and her advice to also stock up at the Maxi Futura supermarket in Agropoli was a sound one as with 7 weeks to cater for we needed a lot to start with and a place from which to replenish stocks as the weeks passed. Maxi Futura is also just down the road from a fuel station.

It is worth noting that the drive up to the house is steep so it is essential that you use the car that is on offer, with it being a small 4x4.

Both inside and out, Villa Nerola is well maintained. Outside has sunbeds, chairs and tables and, of course, the hammock which was used most days. The view is stunning and every evening was spent sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine enjoying the sunsets. All meals were taken on the terrace. Indoors is very comfortable with 2 settees to stretch out on, TV and DVD player and a plentiful supply of books and DVDs. As recommended by Vanessa, we watched ‘Benvenuti Al Sud’, a must watch film even with English subtitles. The kitchen is good with a LPG gas cooker, large fridge and plenty of cutlery and crockery. The bathroom is spacious and modern. The bedroom is on a mezzanine level and has a real double bed that is very comfortable. Some places we have stayed in claim the bed is a double, but we found they were just 2 singles pushed together.

We are returning to stay again this October simply because of the niceness of Vanessa and Richard and because this is a great place in which to relax.

PARADISE FOUND

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time in this wonderful place, its so quiet you can hear a pin drop. A real find, with a kind of tranquility that reaches you soul. Stunning views. once you find a gem like this you do not need to look elsewhere. Vanessa and Richard are wonderful hosts providing everything you need, even down to a welcome hamper. Being able to hire their 4x4 was an added bonus, they really have thought of everything. First class in every way.

Beautiful compact rustic cottage

  • 5 of 5

We booked the cottage for a four day stay to celebrate my birthday and relax a little and this is exactly what we got.

Richard and Vanessa are the perfect hosts, down to earth and very accommodating. The cottage is perfect for couples and with this being a winter visit, the wood burning stove is a very homely touch. As mentioned before, you will need the 4x4 for the 'driveway' although driving is not a problem.

There is less open during the winter, so don't expect to choose restaurants to eat at, you eat where you can find them open.

But the area is very quiet and peaceful at this time of the year and therefor is perfect for exploring the coast and villages and just taking it easy. A visit to Paestum and the temples at this time of year is fantastic as we were the only ones there...

I am giving a 5 star rating to the whole experience and will definitely be visiting again.... well done Richard and Vanessa, its hard to find such good and friendly service these days...

Lovely Relaxing Cottage With Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

I have to say that this has been one of the most relaxing holiday I have ever had. The cottage is very well equipped, the views were amazing & the peacefulness was bliss. Vanessa & Richard were very helpful. Definitely hire their 4x4, as the track to the property is steep & bumpy. Trips to Pompeii, Amalfi, Paestum are all possible from the location. Good restaurants a short drive away. Treatments by Vanessa were excellent. A little gem in the Italian countryside.

Magical

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at the cottage, we thought the first time was special but our last visit was unbelievable.

As you step through the doors, the cottage seems to cast a spell over you, time stands still, all stresses and worries disappear and you feel so relaxed that before you know it another day has gone by!

The accommodation is all that you need and some more, from the cool airy bedroom to the hammock in the shade of the olive tree's and not forgetting the plunge pool, great for cooling off after a hard day sight seeing.

The cottage is ideally located for visiting Paestum (our favourite) and the beautiful villages in between.

Vanessa and Richard where discreet in their absence, there if needed or not as you please; left a lovely welcome pack to see us through our first day (including wine!) .

The cottage and the garden is well maintained, clean and inviting and I would challenge anyone to find a more charming relaxing holiday hide away; But don't tell everyone!

Fabulous find

  • 5 of 5

We cannot speak highly enough of this cottage. In fact, don't really want to share it with anyone else! The cottage is perfect for 2 and exceeded our expectations. It has everything you could need - down to an umbrella and a sunhat! The area is beautiful, lots to see and do. Vanessa and Richard could not be more helpful, kinder or considerate. We have rented many properties abroad and this is top of our list. We will definitely be returning. You definitely need to hire the 4 x 4.

Location

From the Owner

In a nutshell, the stunning sea view, the closeness to the sea and a sense of peace. This is a very unspoilt area and surrounded by the Cilento National Park where there is all manner of wildlife and beautiful countryside. It offers the best of both worlds - quietness and peace but there is life out there if you want it and all amenities are within a short drive or a long walk. The 2 local villages of San Martino and Laureana Cilento are very traditional, friendly and a taste of the 'real' Italy.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Naples at 120 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : San Martino Cilento at 2.5 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Salerno at 70 Kilometres Nearest Train : Agropoli-Castellabate at 15 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : SS18 at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Laureana Cilento at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Laceno at 120 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Baia di Trentova, Agropoli at 15 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The closest beaches are in Agropoli which are 15 mins by car. The most picturesque is at Baia di Trentova just outside of Agropoli. From July-9 Sept small ferries run daily to Amalfi town, Positano and Capri. The pretty coastal town of Santa Maria di Castellabate is approx 20 mins in the car with several sandy beaches. There are further coastal villages heading south such as Case del Conte, Punto di Licosa, Acciaroli...... The 3 Greek Temples at Paestum are only 25 mins drive and sit majestically in the countryside - a truly magical place to visit. On the way you can visit 'Vannulo', the only organic mozzarella farm in the region. The buffalo are treated with respect and care, they listen to classical music in the morning and have a mechanical massage in the afternoon! As a result the mozzarella and products are delicious. There are Grottoes at Castelcivita (41km) and Pertosa (71km).

Travel:

We offer to our guests the hire of a 4x4 as our private track is steep, winding and uneven. Collection from Naples airport or Agropoli railway station (20 mins drive). Naples international airport is 120km and takes approx 1hr 45 mins by car. Trains run from Naples central station to Agropoli-Castellabate and the fast train takes 1hr 10mins. Flights to Naples airport from the UK are: British Airways, Easyjet and Meridiana. Thomson Fly in the summer.

Distances:

The hilltop village of Laureana Cilento is approx 3 km away with a post office and two restaurants, one with a cafe. The village of San Martino is a couple of mins in the car where there is a pharmacy, 2 cafes, a grocery shop and hardware shop. The small town of Torchiara is 8km where there are several restaurants, wine bar, shops, bank, cafes and small supermarkets. The large town of Agropoli is 15 mins in the car. The famous Greek temples at Paestum are 25 mins drive.

Further Details:

There are many similar hilltop villages all within a 10km radius offering all local amenities. The small medieval village of Rocca Cilento with its own castle (which can be viewed by appointment) is 5km away which is 600m above sea level offering stunning views of the countryside, lake and mountains. Other medieval villages include Castellabate (15km), Vatolla with it's museum/college of philosophy and many more. This area is famous for mozzarella made from farmed buffalo in Capaccio near Paestum where you can go on a guided tour of the factory and watch it being made and also sample the yoghurt, ice cream and cheese in the shop. There are many traditional coastal villages going further south from Agropoli: Santa Maria and San Marco di Castellabate, Ogliastro Marina, Case del Conte and Ernest Hemingway's favourite seaside resort at Acciaroli (30km). Further south to Palinuro and Sapri being the furthest point of the Cilento coast. Water sports are available along the coast which has been awarded the Blue Flag to denote clean and safe waters. Boats can be taken from Agropoli in July, August and mid September to Capri, the Amalfi coast and down to Palinuro and all year round from Salerno and Naples to the islands of Ischia and Procida. There is a grotto dell' Angelo at Pertosa. The largest monastery in southern Italy is at Padula. Further inland in the national park is the abandoned village of Roscigno Vecchia and surrounding beautiful countryside. Ancient churches and monasteries are in abundance in this area. The Cilento diet is known for its health giving qualities. There are plenty of restaurants and shops that sell locally produced olive oil, vegetables, salad, wild boar, locally reared pork, fresh fish and mozzarella which this area is famous for. Several buffalo farms sell mozzarella, icecream and yoghurt. An animal lovers paradise with buzzards, falcons, geckos, hoopoe birds, frogs, toads.
