Nautilus is situated just steps from the 2 mile 'blue flag' beach at Westward Ho! It makes a great base for exploring all that North Devon has to offer and is just 25 miles from Bude and the North Cornwall border. The apartments have won an award for exemplary design and the glass walls at both back and front make the most of the sea view and the town. With the main living/dining area on the top floor to make the most of the views and the bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor, there are 3 balconies, with furniture on the largest - perfect for dining 'al fresco' or watching the sunset over the Atlantic. The apartment is exceptionally well equipped, with families of young children in mind as well as luxuries for a relaxing adult holiday. A true 'home from home', you will not want for anything when you stay at Nautilus. With professional interior design and equipped to VisitBritain 5* standard it has everything you need to ensure a truly memorable holiday. Local amenities.
We both live in Oxfordshire, work full time (Andrew as a Director of a healthcare service & logistics company & Emma as a Chartered Accountant) and have owned 10 Nautilus since it was new.
Married for 16 years, we have 2 children, 1 (barmy) dog & 1 (bone idle) cat!
Our children have grown up with Nautilus so we have enjoyed digging in the sand on the beach, the local tourist attractions such as The Big Sheep and are now getting into surfing (we cannot recommend The North Devon Surf School in Westward Ho! highly enough) - we should have done it years ago!
Andrew Firth purchased this apartment in 2004
We have owned the apartment from new and watched it being built.
What attracted us to it was the fact its virtually on the beach and its looks.
Its just as enjoyable in the summer when we can enjoy the long sandy beach as it is in winter when we can watch a storm from the comfort of the apartment.
The beach is almost on the doorstep, as are a number of shops, pubs and restaurants. The location is just so convenient!
There are numerous other apartments in Westward Ho! but arguably none are as striking or good to be in as Nautilus.
This was our second visit to apartment, the views are truly breathtaking from both levels, We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the winter sunshine The owners are very helpful and provide a welcome pack which was greatly appreciated The apartment is modern, clean and a great place to relax and watch the ever changing scenery There are many great places to eat within a very short walk. The beach is wonderful for walks and rock climbing. We are returning in the summer when we look forward to learning how to surf
Really enjoyed staying at the apartment. Everything catered for - even opposite the ice cream van!!!
Out and about during the day, but a lovely place to relax in the evenings.
Thanks
We loved having the balcony doors open and being able to hear the sea on the pebbles /stones on the beach rolling with the waves.
The apartment had all we needed, especailly as we ate in one night. It was clean, everthing worked, the beds were comfortable and the shower was excellent. It's our first trip to Westward Ho and whilst town is quite small, the beach is great. We may well visit the area again and will definitely check if Nautilus is free.
This apartment had everything I could ask for - fabulous views and all the amenities I needed for a 10 day stay. The location was easy to find and having parking available made it so easy. There are lots of restaurants and shops within a minute's walk which was very convenient. I have rented a lot of flats in Europe and this was one of the best equipped ones I have stayed in. For example, lots of dishes and cutlery plus everything you would need to cook in (self--cater) which I did most of the time. At the start, I wanted to enjoy the balcony but, when the weather turned and got inclement, it just made sense to eat in! I highly recommend this property. While I never met the owner, I did phone him a couple of times and he was a friendly and helpful. It was all great!
Best holiday apartment we have stayed in.
Perfect view and a better bed than we have at home!
Very comfortable stay and the Firth family are thoughtful to the last detail!
Coast/Beach:
The beach can be reached in approximately 30 seconds from leaving the door! This is a wonderful 2 mile stretch of golden sand which is 'blue flag' accredited and is backed by the famous pebble ridge. Behind this is a nature reserve known as Northam Burrows. There is a surf school at Westward Ho! as well as kite-surfing.
Within 30 minutes drive are the well known beaches at Woolacombe, Putsborough and Saunton as well as the world renowned surfing beach at Croyde.
Travel:
Westward Ho! is on the North Devon coast just off the A39 between Barnstaple and Bude. A car is recommended although Westward Ho! is well served by public transport.
The nearest train station is in Barnstaple (13km).
Distances:
The nearest town is Bideford which is approx. 10 minutes away by car and the regional centre is Barnstaple which is approx. 20 minutes away by car.
There are many fishing villages close by, including Appledore, with it's small steep lanes and a good selection of fish resaurants. Clovelly, is also nearby, with it's steep cobbled streets which are inaccessible by motor vehicles.
Hartland Point is a short distance away by car, with it's famous lighthouse and beautiful scenery.
Further Details:
There are a number of shops including a post office, butchers, bakers, pharmacy and 2 small supermarkets less than 3 minutes walk from the apartment.
Westward Ho! makes an excellent central base from which to explore the surrounding area. There are some shops and restaurants within the village itself and many more to be found within a 10 minute drive along the coast in either direction.
The diversity of the natural landscape in North Devon provides an enormous variety of opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, horse riding, golf, surfing, fishing, wind-surfing, sailing and boat trips.
There is a wealth of other attractions and places to visit including:
* Days out for children - theme parks, wildlife, dinosaurs, gnomes, butterflies, diggers and castles
* Local markets - with a variety of food, drink, arts and crafts
* Historic houses - including the National Trust Houses at Arlington, Tapeley Park and Dunster Castle
* Gardens - RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Dr Smart's beautiful garden at Marwood and the National Trust's Knighthayes Court house and gardens
In fact there is so much to see and do that one holiday is not enough! We are sure that you will want to keep coming back to North Devon year after year to enjoy all that there is on offer.
