House in Old Village, Alonissos Island - Peaceful Location, 10 Mins Walk to Village and Beach

The house is in a quiet part of the Chora (old village) with rear gate giving direct access to the Chora. Sea Views. The Chora has many tavernas, bars and shops together with local festivals. The house has views to outlying islands including Skopolos (as seen in Mama Mia). There are many paths near the House to the beach, countryside, mountains and a wonderful goat path down to Patitiri. The house has a wonderful garden terrace with olive, almond and orange trees with patio furniture giving shade. There is a small terrace by the entrance door giving access to rear garden and gate. A large terrace is accessed from the dining room/lounge with furniture enabling outside eating. There is a balcony accessed by both bedrooms on the 1st floor with shade. Alonissos is both a walkers and beach lovers paradise and is worth visiting at any time of the year for its rare flora and fauna and Marine Park with the rare Monk Seal and Eleonoras Falcon. Porpoises and dolphins are often seen off shore.

About Alan Ross

My wife and I live in London and Dorset and have a large French Briard dog who also has a passport to take abroad. We have been visiting Alonissos for many years and finally finished our home on the Island last year. I am a lecturer and teach students with Aspergers and Autism and edit and publish a magazine written for and by them. It is looked on as our home from home and I hope any people staying there will feel the same. The Island is truly the sanatorium of the soul and it helps relieve the stress of my work. I have worked for people with Special Needs for many years helping to get them into work and have more fulfilling lives. We also lived in Cornwall for many years so have mostly lived near the sea but the views from this house are stunning so we just had to have it. No regrets.

Why Alan Ross chose Thessaly

We bought the house as we loved the Island on our first visit and had for many years wanted to live in Greece. It is remote enough to deter too may visitors and the beaches are never too full or too noisy. In the Spring Alonnisos is covered in wild flowers and every season has its rewards. It has the most wonderful views of small islands off shore from all points and though uninhabited most can accessed by boat. The goat paths covering the Island have been turned into paths and the walks are graded and outstanding with a surprise around every corner. I love photography and there are so many wonderful things to photograph or paint. We both love swimming and the water is clean enough to see the fish below you as you swim or snorkel. The food is fresh and most tavernas serve very good meals.

What makes this house unique

We find the House ideal for nipping up to the Village Shop and Bakery to buy breakfast in the morning. It means that there is no need to use a car to either visit the beach or shop for basics. To be able to walk to all the tavernas in the village and walk or catch the bus to the harbour gives a lovely sense of freedom and a chance to have a greener, lower carbon holiday. It is quiet and does not have passing traffic. We love to sit on the balcony of a night watching the moon rise and shine over the islands and shine across the sea whilst having a glass of wine or beer. To the right the view to the sea shows the ferries and yachts sailing by to the harbour and in the distance Evia and some of the fishing boat lights. The house is both quiet and not far from all conveniences, just ideal.

Notes on accommodation: There is a parasol and table for outside eating together with garden chairs on the terrace from lounge. There are two chairs and a cafe table on each balcony reached through the french windows in each bedroom. There is a rotary line attached to a wall in the garden so as not to interfere with access or the views. The accommodation is airy in summer with large windows and doors and a feeling of space. There is no near passing traffic so it is in a quiet are of the Old Village. There are electric oil filled radiators and further heaters available in the colder months upon request. The steps to the entrance and the stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep and could be unsafe for small children so please contact if you need further advice and pictures on this. No smoking is permitted within the property. Non smokers only please. Outside: There is a garden with terrace including olive, almond and orange trees together with bouganvillea and oleandres. There is outdoor furniture supplied with a patio umbrella for shade and a hammock. There is a wall fixed clothes line. There is seating available in both shade or sun to suit most tastes. There is a small terrace by the entrance door lending access to the rear garden and gate to village paths and there are steps from the front door leading to the Courtyard Garden and the front gate which leads to the main path down to the nearest beach, harbour and small car parking area should this be required. There is outdoor furniture for all outside patios, terraces and balconies. All areas are private, not shared and have exceptional views to the countryside and sea. Utility Room: No utility room as washing machine in kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Clean towels and linen are supplied upon arrival. No beach towels are supplied. The property is cleaned before arrival and upon departure. A midweek clean is provided if required if staying two weeks. Clean bed linen and towels are available if needed. Other: As the living area is large do please view photographs to show layout.

Bright and airy with amazing views from all sides.

The property was clean and spacious. The balcony curving around the upstairs bedrooms provided lovely views of the surrounding landscape. Dawn provided helpful local support, picking us up from the port. We would recommend Almond House particularly for its peace and scenic location with the bakery, local shops and restaurants a short walk away. Beaches at Meghalos Mourtias and Mikros Mourtias were a twenty minute walk downhill on footpaths from the old village. The Naval Restaurant served good food in a wonderful location at dusk. If you enjoy walking you can easily manage without a car.

Great location.

The cottage is very comfortable and within easy walking distance of the old village, Chora.

There are fabulous views out to sea from both balconies.

The cottage is fairly well equipped although it would benefit from a new supply of crockery and glassware as well as replacement shower heads.

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and fell in love with Alonissos.

We would love to come back!

I have now asked for the crockery, glasses and shower heads to be replaced. Unfortunately I usually personally review Almond House but was unable to visit this year due to my wife's ill health which is why I appreciate visitors comments both good and bad. everything we needed

Our family spent 2 weeks in the house in July-August 2014 with our two children aged 6 and 9. The house has everything we needed for a comfortable stay, the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking full-scale homemade dinners.

The location is quiet with an unobstructed view of the sea. The village restaurants and shops are only a couple of minutes away on foot up picturesque little alleys overgrown with fig trees and with spectacular views.

There was a minor issue that needed fixing by a technician shortly after we arrived. That was arranged immediately by the owner and his local assistant so everything worked properly.

Alonissos as whole was breathtakingly beautiful and pleasantly wild, we can't stop thinking about going back there :)

Delightful Villa

We had a really lovely holiday in this pretty villa beautifully situated very close to a typical Greek mountain village. It had flower covered balconies with amazing views and was very comfortable, clean and had everything needed to make it a most enjoyable and happy time. The owner was most helpful and we would love to visit again. We would happily recommend it.
