Cottage in Sorbas, Nr. Mojacar, Almeria, Spain, in Natural Park KARST AND YESOS - Beautiful Elevated Position In Tranquil Location, 360° view


The cottage (New heater AC, 2016) comprises on the ground floor a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge and a dining room with a view on the rambla, the dry river and the surrounding mountains.

The lounge has direct access to the rear shady terrace equipped with a table, chairs and a barbecue. A sunbed is just nearby. A new private pool, just for you, in the flowers and orange + limon trees!

The first floor has 2 double bedrooms, one of which overlooking another rear terrace with a stunning view on the mountains and pool. The separate modern bathroom is situated between the two bedrooms. One bedroom has original beams.

The village is surrounded by mountains (in a semi-circle) and comprises 4 hamlets. In January-February, thousands of olive trees and almond trees blossom and the view is breathtaking! During this period, walks with gourmet stops are organized.

Cette demeure de charme (avec nouvelle Clim chauffage - 2016) s'appelle "la maison de l'Oncle Augustin", personnage anciennement bien connu dans le village. Elle dispose d'une cuisine super équipée, d'une salle à manger, avec vue sur la rambla, la rivière à sec et un cirque de montagnes faites d'anciens coraux. Le salon donne accès à la terrasse arrière ombragée où se trouvent table, chaises et barbecue. Juste à côté, un bain de soleil.

A l'étage il y a 2 grandes chambres doubles, dont l'une donne sur une

autre terrasse arrière, avec vue imprenable sur les montagnes et la

piscine. La salle de bains moderne est située entre les deux chambres. La

plupart des chambres contiennent les poutres d'origine. Cariatiz est un

village entouré en demi-cercle par des montagnes. Il se compose de quatre

petits hameaux. En janvier -février, la floraison de milliers d'oliviers et

d'amandiers est absolument à couper le souffle! Des promenades avec haltes

gastronomiques sont organisées à cette occasion.

Notes on accommodation: Fans at your disposal. Outside: The terrace area to the rear has a barbecue and a pergola for protection against the sun with patio table and chairs. To the side of the house is the sun deck. A NEW POOL ( 8 mtrs x 4 mtrs - 2015) Access via steps down from the barbecue terrace - right outside your back door and TOTALLY PRIVATE!!! Orange and lemons trees, flowers ans quiet.... Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are provided for each stay. Property is cleaned before arrival and on departure Other: An archway under the open plan wrought iron staircase takes you to the kitchen; the rear door leads you to a barbecue area and your own private pool.

Great Stay!

We had a great stay!

We were looking for peace and tranquility and this is exactly what we got.

The key holder was charming, he explained everything about the house and even left a bottle of wine and some snacks for us to start with.

Everything was as portrayed in the pictures.

Highly recommended.

Not happy with this property.We left the next day.

We were very disappointed with this property as from the photos it looked to be detached and was not. It was very very cold and we could not get the heating to work . We left the next morning. We were only told about the electricity charges after we had booked and paid. But as we could not not get the fans for the heat to work anyway it did not cost much!

The access to the property is along a rocky road and very tricky to manoeuvre the car to get out again.

Although it said there was English TV we were not able to find a channel.

There was loose tiles in the bathroom which the key holder said he thought they had repaired. The glass in the windows were only single glazed and not safety glass so unsafe!

All in all very disappointing and the app would not let me do less than 1 star unfortunately!!

Owner's Response: What a surprising review! Our house obtains an average rate of 4,8/5, You rated it 1/5, spot the error... Here are my answers: - "We Could not get the heating to work »: there used to be a system of mural electrical heatings. We have recently added a reversible AC for the confort of the guests. Both heating systems are perfectly working, where was the problem? - The electricity bill is on top. This is explicitly explained on the website and in the directions that you have received. Your electricity bill was… 8€. - We have recently commissioned the rework of the access road in gypsum. There is parking within the property, totally fenced-in. - The satellite providing the British channels works perfectly well. - It is not standard for the region to have double glazed windows, according to Wikipedia, the Tavernas region is the most desert region of Spain… The single-layered windows wouldn't be secured? Absolutely ALL the windows of the property are secured with metal rods, as it is the custom in the region. - and ABOVE ALL, for ALL these questions, the information received at arrival as well as the directions recommend to give a call, day or night, to the key holder (you received his telephone number and his email address) who lives 200m away from the house. After checking with him, it appears he did not see you until the 3rd day which corresponds to when you handed out the keys, without explanation, at the middle of your stay and without stating any of the grievances that you mention here! - Any problem that has a solution is no longer a problem unless we do not take the solution, yet obvious.

Quiet, traditional home in rural Almeria

Well maintained Spanish home. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bathroom is spacious and the shower very good, the lounge and dining area have everything you need, including free wifi! The house benefits from the sun all day. We breakfasted at the front whilst watching the world amble by at a distance, spent some days lazing by the pool and then enjoyed warm evenings on the terraces whilst we barbecued. The pool itself was lovely, although in October it was a shock to the system until you got going!! Pool maintenance/cleaning, however, could be improved! The local bar/shop in Los Martinez supplied lovely fresh bread daily and their 'to order' paella was delicious. Cariatiz is a very rural location approximately 40 minutes fromTurre and 45 minutes from Mojacar. Sorbas and Lubrin are definitely worth a visit too.

Excellent value, beautiful location

My wife and I were looking for a quiet location with good facilities, we were not dissapointed. The cottage was easy to find following good directions,

For 2 people it was very roomy, as it would have been for 4. Large kitchen,

, adjoining dining room, and a comfortable lounge. 2 good sized bedrooms, the double with roomy balcony, the bathroom with shower cubicle was more than adequate. Outside at the rear was a comfortable dining area overlooking the beautiful pool,, 10 x 4 mtrs. The surrounding views were wonderful, walking was a pleasure. Thomas and Fred were always on hand to help, but in closing, why no kettle ? ! We hope to return later this year. Anne & Roger

Lovely spot!

We had a nice relaxing month stay in this delightful cottage with long reaching views. It had everything you could need even for that length of time, including satellite English TV and internet. Perfect location for exploring the area which is steeped in geology, pretty villages and plenty of Spanish culture and hospitality. With a fully fenced and secure garden and miles of dog walking territory even the family pet was well catered for. We managed quite a lot of sunbathing considering it was late November early December and ate breakfast on the terrace each morning. With the new pool planned for next season - Wow

We had a wonderful 10 day stay at this house, it was very well appointed and beautifully clean. Lovely views and a pleasant walk to the local shop and bar. It's in a great position for plenty of good days out, lovely walks from the door into the hills and surrounding villages and half an hour from the beaches. Would love to go back again to do some more exploring. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

The local beaches of Mojacar are about twenty five minutes by car and do not get very crowded, even in the Summer. There are chiringuitos (beach bars) along the beaches and a big selection of bars and restaurants along the front.


Almeria Airport is situated to the south and is about 40one minute drive, five nutes from Cariatiz, whilst Murcia (San Javier) Airport is to the north and about 90 minutes by car. The journey from both airports is very easy, both using quiet motorways.

Alicante airport is about a 2 hour drive.


The centre of the village is about a one minute drive, five minutes walk. Sorbas is the nearest town at about 10 minutes by car, whilst the larger town of Turre is about 20 minutes away by car. Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera are all about twenty five minutes away by car.

Further Details:

The nearest shop is to be found in the centre of the village. This is a small supermarket and whilst it does not have a huge choice it makes a more than adequate local shop. The centre of the village also has two bars (one serves basic but good food) and nearby is a public swimming pool with another bar/snack bar. La Mela, fifteen minutes away by car, has a very nice bar/restaurant offering a good menu of the day. The nearby towns of Sorbas, Turre, Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera all have a good selection of major supermarkets, restaurants, bars, banks etc. The historical town of Sorbas is only ten minutes away by car and has a 24 hour emergency clinic. The Caves of Sorbas are well worth a visit. This part of Almeria is one of the best known areas for walking in Spain, with tracks starting right outside the house you can walk into the mountains. The National Park of Cabo de Gata, famous for its bird life (especially in Spring and Autumn) is less than thirty minutes drive and the world famous Cazorla National Park is about and hour and a half away. If you fancy a mini holiday within a holiday Granada and The Alhambra Palace is a must to visit at only two hours distance by motorway. You can take diving lessons at Mojacar Beach and can hire quads or go on a jeep safari. When you book your holiday with us you will find all these details in our information booklet.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days are flexible. On same day changeovers we request guests to depart by 10.00 am and arrive after 5.00 pm to allow us time to clean and prepare the property.
