Beachfront apartment, Calahonda, Costa del Sol - Ideal Location with Beach and Sea Views

Playa Lucera is a small, quiet complex, built in traditional Andalusian style, on the beach at Calahonda midway between the towns of Marbella and Fuengirola. The apartment is at the end of a 3 storey block, top floor reached by stairs only. From the balcony stretching the width of the apartment panoramic views of the pool, beach and sea can be enjoyed. The light and airy apartment has 2 bedrooms and bathrooms, a comfortable sitting area with Satellite TV, DVD, video and hi-fi. A breakfast bar joins the kitchen to the dining area which has table and chairs seating 6. It is an ideal location for families with school aged children or couples who enjoy tranquil surroundings. A large pool set in the tropical gardens is the focal point of the complex. Rarely busy and with a shallow end for children it is ideal for everyone. Easy walking access to all the facilities Calahonda has to offer including shops, banks, restaurants, bars and medical facilities.

I live in England and work part time as airline cabin crew from Heathrow. My husband works in the IT industry as a sales manager. We love having a home in Spain which we can travel to easily and as often as we like. We also like to travel generally and see different countries but the beauty of Spain is we can visit and not feel any pressure to be on the go all the time, it is the place we go to completely chill out which is so easy given the proximity of the beach. The sound and sight of the waves breaking on the shore as we sit on the balcony is 100% relaxing!

Big thank you to Dianne for making our stay so pleasant.

Our intension this year was to have a relaxing break and that's certainly what we got.

The appartment has everything needed to make you feel totally at home and has a very easy feel about the place.

Another great thing about this type of holiday is the personnel attention from the owner. Dianne arranged a taxi to pick us up at the airport and drop off at the apartment making our arrival as haste free as possible. Same for the return journey.

The private pool area was never too busy and having your own sun loungers is a first for us.

The food choices in the area are good with varied restaurants a short walk away.

Overall it was a fantastic experience.

Seeing is believing!!

Irish couple mid-50s. We booked our holiday just 2 weeks before arriving. The owner, Dianne, excelled in customer service, so much so, that we began to think it was all a bit too good to be true. Not in the least. Website pictures do not do the apartment or the complex true justice, but selfishly, that suits us - we don't want too many to know about it!! Loved the security of the complex, the beach/pool location, the apartment facilities, availability of airport transfers, if requested, and the proximity to bars/restaurants and public transport. We dined quite a bit on balcony and witnessed beautiful sunsets and full moon glistening on the sea - breathtaking!! If you like walking/running/tranquility, no pool bar/music, and only the sound of waves crashing, then this is for you. Just don't tell too many people!! Genuinely struggled to leave. My Kind of Holiday

This is a beautiful spacious apartment that is central to everything, restaurants, supermarkets and a bus stop directly outside the complex. The view from the balcony is stunning and now with the added attraction of the boardwalk which is far away enough not to intrude but enables us to walk along the coastline.

This is our third year visiting to Playa Lucera, we usually come twice a year and hope to be coming for many more it would certainly be hard to find a nicer place to stay.

I have been visiting this area since the mid 80s when my parents had a home here. I have seen the whole coastline become more and more developed but the beauty of the apartment I chose is the fact that no other development is visible from the balcony, it has an air of tranquility about it yet the whole of the coast is easily accessible from the main road directly outside the development. I fell in love with the view the minute I stepped on the balcony and knew immediately it was the place for me. It reminded me of the view I used to wake up to in Hawaii when I lived there! Malaga airport is less than 30 minutes by car, Fuengirola and Marbella about 15 minutes away and Puerto Banus about 20 minutes. Within a 5 minute walk are all the amenities Calahonda has to offer plus bus stops.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary


The complex is situated on the beach at Calahonda with direct beach access from the tropical gardens. It is a relatively quiet beach with a chiringuito open daily and the local fishermen can be seen setting sail early morning and mid afternoon.

Two other popular beaches within five minutes by car or along the boardwalk are La Cala and the beaches at Puerto Cabopino with its pretty marina. All along the beaches are sunloungers for hire and also massage facilities.

There are many restaurants within a five minute walk either at Calahonda or Riviera and supermarkets can be found at both locations.


Malaga airport is approximately 20 minutes from the apartment by car. Transfers can be arranged for approximately 65 euros each way. An alternative airport is Gibraltar approximately an hour away and 100 euro transfer. Car hire is not essential but recommended to discover as much of the coast as possible. Bus stops directly outside the complex can be used to get to or from Marbella and Fuengirola including stops at La Cala and Cabopino. From Fuengirola a train service goes to Malaga including the airport. From the bus terminal in Fuengirola it is easy to get to Mijas village. From the bus terminal in Marbella the Andalucian villages of Benhavis, Ojen and Ronda are accessible.

Booking Notes:
The property is managed by a local property management company and they are available for the duration of your stay should you need assistance regarding any issues that might arise.
A refundable security deposit of £150 is required with the balance to cover breakages, lost keys or damage. This will be refunded once the property management company have inspected the apartment after departure.

Changeover Day:
Flexible. Arrival 1600 hours. Departure 1000 hours. Will try to accommodate earlier or later times depending on bookings.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
Extra nights will be charged pro rata, however if cleaning and laundry change are required mid stay other than weekly a charge will apply.

Once the dates are confirmed a contract will be emailed for signature and this can be returned with a cheque for a 20% deposit with the balance plus £150 refundable security deposit due 6 weeks prior to arrival. If guests prefer they can do a direct bank transfer. Bank transfers can be in sterling or euros.

Playa Lucera is a quiet development with just enough going on to be interesting without the noise and hustle and bustle of some other developments. Half of the apartments are owned by Spanish families as holiday homes which gives it a nice authentic feel. The pool is never packed which many guests greatly appreciate. In July and August we have a security guard on duty to ensure everyone's safety and that development rules are adhered to, such as no radios by pool, late night noise or general anti social behaviour. Access through locked gates directly on to the beach and to the beach bar and restaurants is a great bonus.

  • Notes on accommodation: Air-conditioning/heating is available in main living area. As the apartment is on the beach there is usually a sea breeze which keeps the apartment cooler therefore ceiling fans only are provided in the bedrooms. Plug in radiators are available for the winter months, plus electric fan, and ceiling fans in both bedrooms. Electric blinds on main balcony. Not suitable for under 4s due to stairs and balcony. No single sex groups or smoking within apartment. Outside: Two balconies, both with fabulous sea views. A dining table and 4 chairs, plus sun lounger are on front balcony. Second balcony has storage for outdoor soft furnishings, beach toys and drying area. Communal grounds with large pool with shallow end for children, plus sun loungers padlocked and marked with apartment number. Direct access to beach through secure gates. Spacious, well maintained gardens ensure plenty of room for everyone. Beach bar at end of complex. Secure parking for one car in numbered space. Complex can only be accessed by electronic gates. Unfortunately barbeque's are not allowed on the complex. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is prepared with bedlinen and towels. A mid stay linen change will be provided for bookings of 2 weeks or more. Please bring own beach towels.
