About this property

Against an impressive mountain backdrop and overlooking the sparkling waters of Makrigialos Bay, Grapevines is a complex of 20 luxury, 3 storey self-catering townhouses, clustered around a large private courtyard and floodlit 20m swimming pool. Our property is set back from the road on the western side of the complex and includes a private panoramic balcony leading from the lounge on the middle floor and a large sun terrace with pergola on the top floor, both affording mid-day shade and stunning sunset views of the bay in the evening. A smaller balcony overlooks the pool, allowing early-risers a view of the sun climbing between the mountains. The contemporary open-plan lounge and dining area adjoin a modern, fully fitted kitchen which are connected to the ground floor bedrooms and the third floor sun deck via an elegant spiral staircase. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Grapevines, the villa, location and weather were all perfect. The villa and pool were well maintained with plenty of advice and support from the owner and management. The location is lovely on the outer edge of the town but still with shops and great restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Lovely pool

Great location, quite spacious and well equipped. Air con was essential in August. Very convenient for local beaches, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The pool is splendid. The only downside was that in common with other holiday rentals the kitchen knives are blunt and the beds are really hard.

Superb picturesque quiet Crete

Lovely relaxing location, with easy access to delightful quiet and sandy beaches. Excellent set of local tavernas providing great food at sensible prices. Seems unspoilt by the Travel industry and an area that still is able to give an authentic Greek experience. Villa provides all you could want with good accommodation, facilities and a lovely pool area

Michele and I are both recently retired teachers. We have lived and worked in South Wales and Devon and for the past 25 years in Yorkshire.
We have 2 children (both girls) and one grand-daughter plus 2 cats. Not sure which cause the most trouble!

Why they chose this property

We originally purchased our villa/townhouse at Grapevines purely as an investment but from the first time we came out to Crete (just to put up curtain poles and hang curtains) we fell in love with it. It's not just that the villa is wonderfully positioned and equipped and that the pool is the best we've ever swum in, but the whole area draws us back time and time again. Makrigialos is a delightful village, the people are so welcoming, the beaches are probably the best on Crete and the food is delicious everywhere you go. What more do you need?
