About the property

3 Beautiful Holiday Homes

Casa do Pepe (Sleeps up to 7) and La Casita (Sleeps 2), are fully restored traditional stone buildings while the self-contained Granny Flat (Sleeps 4 or 5) forms the ground floor of the owners house. The homes are located in the very quiet hamlet of Castrotañe with views across the river Sil to the distant mountains. The village is close to local facilities with golf, fishing, swimming pools, childrens' playgrounds, river beach, bars, restaurants and shops all within a five mile radius. The closest restaurant/ bar/shop is less than 2km away. The village of Castrotañe is in the Ribeira Sacra, one of the most beautiful parts of South Lugo and Ourense. The area provides interest to walkers, wine lovers, wild life enthusiasts, architecture, bird watchers, fishermen and golfers to name a few. Further afield, Ourense with its old city and famous thermal baths, is 45km, Lugo, a walled city, 65km, the coast a 2 hour drive, Santiago de Compostella 1.5 hours by car (longer on foot!) and Portugal too is only a day trip away.

Quiet rural retreat.

Verified Stay

Well restored clean and well equipped small dwelling. Lovely spot for a quiet holiday.

Maps and walk books for the local area provided.

Plenty of places of interest locally and some beautiful scenery.

Penelope is very welcoming and helpful.

Penelope's directions are excellent.

SatNav has problems (ours thinks the correct approach road is unmade - it isn't - and tried to send us via a farm track, fortunately blocked by a tractor. Switching off "avoid unpaved roads" cured this but remember to switch it back on!

Alternatively N32degrees 32.284minutes, W7degrees 37.012minutes takes you to the turn off for Castrotane.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your time here, you were wonderful guests and thank you for leaving the Casita in such a good state. Thank you also for putting these co-ordinates in your review. I will include them in my directions and hopefully they will direct people here without sending them on a wild goose chase. Thank you again for your visit.

Great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a superb 2 weeks in La Casita. Penelope is very welcoming and helpful - she provided food in the kitchen for our arrival as it was late at night, and is always on hand to answer questions. The setting of the property is tranquil and beautiful. The scenery in this area of Galicia ranges from the pretty to the spectacular - especially around the Rivers Sil and Mino. A boat trip along the Sil is a must. We also really enjoyed our trip to the Roman walls in Lugo.

I thoroughly recommend a stay in La Casita!

La Casita has a woodburning stove, and electric convector heater. La Casita has a private terrace overlooking a small lawn. The terrace has a stone cooking area with log store under, and there is a gas BarBQ The grounds around the house are shared with Casa do Pepe and accessed by the owner (who lives in the village) for necessary maintenance purposes during lets.
