Characterful 3-Bedroom Villa with Private Pool, Wi-Fi

Updated: 05-Sep-2016
Villa in Gaucin, Ronda Area, Spain - Semi-Rural Location, 5 minutes from Village

Casa de Piedra is a lovingly-restored single-storey, 3-bedroom country-style villa. Constructed using traditional materials the house retains many original features that combine effortlessly with the more modern benefits of central heating and air-conditioning. Situated in a semi-rural location, just on the edge of Gaucin village and surrounded by orange and olive groves, 36°31'17.94''N, 5°19'38.48''W, the house provides a wonderful base from which to explore the Serrania de Ronda or to simply soak up the ambiance of the local area. Sit in the shade, in the lawned and terraced garden, and admire the mountain views that characterize the Serrania. Alternatively, take a dip in the private pool or stroll up to Gaucin and marvel at the stunning views down to Gibraltar and the Rif mountains of Morocco beyond.

Activity and Interests

Good beaches may be found on the coast just a 30 minute drive away.

Gibraltar 1 hour - flights from Luton, Gatwick. Malaga 1.5 hours. Jerez 2.5 hours. Seville 2.5 hours. Granada 2.5 hours. Car hire - recommended but not essential.

Gaucin is 2min away by car, 5-10min walking.

Places of interest such as Casares, Jimena de la Frontera, Benarraba, Benalauria and Genalguacil are a short drive away and Ronda, with its impressive Tajo bridge, is just 40min away. The coast (swimming and golf), Estepona, Marbella and Puerto Banus are 35-50min away and further afield are the historic cities of Sevilla, Cadiz, Jerez, Cordoba and Granada. Tangier and the essence of north Africa is just a 30min ferry ride from Tarifa or Algeciras.

Further Details:

Perched below the ruins of a Moorish castle, at a height of over 650m, Gaucin is one of the most attractive of the pueblos blancos, 'white villages', of the Serrania de Ronda. Its lofty position affords it marvellous views, across olive and almond groves, especially south to Gibraltar and beyond to the Moroccan coast in Africa. Cosmopolitan, yet retaining its Spanish feel, Gaucin has many small shops as well as four larger 'supermarkets', a delicatessen and an excellent, well-stocked shop selling organic produce. There is a good selection of tapas bars and there are occasional live Flamenco performances in the area.

As one of the larger villages in the Serrania, Gaucin offers more facilities than most; in addition to the food shops and tapas bars there are several restaurants, an award-winning vineyard, a butchers, a bakery, a chemist, two internet cafes, a post-office, a medical centre, a small daily market, two antique shops and two banks with ATMs. The local swimming pool is open July through August and there is a free-to-use municipal tennis court; massages, beauty treatments and a range of alternative therapies can be arranged locally. Everything is within walking distance, around the winding streets of whitewashed houses, and the pace of life is still relaxingly slow.

The surrounding area is wonderful, too, apart from the many towns and villages to explore there are mountains, lakes, caves, forests, birds, wildflowers (best in Spring), as well as walking, riding, swimming, tennis, etc. The Serrania de Ronda, attractively adorned with vast swathes of cork oak and sweet-chestnut woods, has three protected national parks, Sierra de Las Nieves, Sierra Grazalema and Los Alcornocales, and the reserve of Coto Doñana, home to the iconic Iberian Lynx, is less than 3hrs away. With the stunning natural environment, and a multitude of cultural festivals and events occurring throughout the year across the region, there is always something to do when staying in Gaucin!
