Cottage in East Harptree, Nr. Wells, Somerset, England - Views Over Bath And Bristol To Wales And Wiltshire

The Grove forms part of the Springfield Farm Estate and is a fully self-contained 4 bedroom house with its own terrace overlooking the lake. With two double bedrooms upstairs with their own shower room and a master double and twin downstairs with large family bathroom, The Grove is equally suited to two families sharing the kitchen, dining and sitting rooms on the ground floor. It was converted in 2008 and has all you would expect from a high quality holiday home together with beautiful furniture - much of it hand-picked from France. There are walks from your front door in every direction across the Mendips behind you or down through the Chew Valley in front. There is superb fishing available on the lake as well as sailing and bird-watching. Golf, equestrian pursuits, rock climbing and caving are all available within ten minutes and with Bath and Bristol only 25 minutes by car, you'd struggle to find somewhere better positioned for all you want to do on holiday.

Why Liz Fox chose Mendip (Glastonbury)

With Neil having grown up in the Chew Valley and Liz in rural Somerset, it was a natural choice. As soon as we saw the views from Springfield Farm, we knew we had to try and convert the buildings into something worthy of the location. It's position overlooking the lake and across the hills and valleys to Bath and Bristol is truly breathtaking - in all honesty, the photos simply do not do it justice!

What makes this cottage unique

There's little doubt that if you want to explore the best things that Bath and North Somerset have to offer, you will be in the best possible place to do so. Combine that with an exceptional place to stay, the only struggle you will have is whether to stay in or go out. A browse through the comments that our guests have made about staying here since we opened in April 2009 is a better indication of what it is really like than anything we can say.

We booked last minute directly with Liz and could not have been more delighted. The Grove was beautifully clean, spacious and with amazing views over the Chew Valley to the lake; the photos don't do this place justice. We arrived to a delicious cream tea and had an amazing cooked breakfast on our first morning - all courtesy of the very generous welcome hamper. Peaceful and secluded but perfectly located for exploring the many delights of Somerset, sheep with lambs and ponies in the fields - highly recommend anyone to book this place - thank you for an amazing few days.

Notes on accommodation: No smoking or pets. Sorry no Hen or Stag weekends unless by prior agreement. Outside: Outdoor terrace at rear through French Doors with panoramic views of Bath, Bristol and Chew Valley Lake. The terrace sits within a lawned area. In total there are 20 acres of private land at Springfield Farm with public footpaths leading both down through the valley and back up towards the Mendips. Just take a seat on the terrace (table and benches provided) with a glass of wine and a barbecue and take in the view. You will not be disappointed - it is widely recognised as the best view in the county. At the front of The Grove is a gravelled driveway with further parking for up to four cars. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen provided. Other: Dining area includes breakfast bar to kitchen area and beautiful oak oval table and sideboard capable of seating 8.

Perfect location, perfect garden, perfect property

I booked the property as a surprise to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday with my family and I. It was just perfect. The cottage offered everything we wanted and a lot more. The photos really don't do it justice. The location allowed us to venture into Clevedon, Bath, Wells, Bristol and Cheddar. Thank you for letting us stay. We will be back!!

Peaceful country retreat

We have stayed at this property before, about four years ago. Sometimes it is a mistake to revisit previous holiday venues, but not in this case. This quiet location is central for marvellous walks through some of England's finest countryside, but also has a wonderful view from the garden.

We may well return.

Beautiful views from a beautiful house

The house was easy to find following Sat Nav. Plenty of crockery/utensils for 7 of us. Lots of space in the lounge. Comfortable beds. The garden and views were lovely looking out towards the lake and it's a stunning part of the countryside. Couldn't have faulted a thing from beginning to end. Thanks for having us!

Comfy, Friendly, Greatly Situated.

This hillside cottage has a stunning view and is the first thing you see when you park up, this is shortly followed by the joy of entering this well appointed cottage with its generous kitchen, dining and living space. We stayed as a party of seven and never found ourselves overcrowded or lacking of facilities.

If you should feel the need to get out for the day then you are spoiled for choice as the cottage is well located between towns and attractions. We recommend Cheddar Gorge for stunning views and good cheese, Bristol for the teenagers in your life, and bath for the Nanny.

Make sure to use the farm shop by the lake for some excellent local produce, and book yourself a table at the Salt and Malt for some posh fish and chips.

A week wasnt long enough to enjoy the cottage, I am sure we missed many of the local walks. We never tired of seeing the horses from the window or being greeted by the friendly black labs Fern and Jazz everyday.

And finally it was wonderful to arrive and find a welcome pack including all the parts for a cream tea, a glass of wine and a delicious breakfast.

Strongly recommend you stay here.

Stunning!!!!

We spent a fantastic week at the Grove as a family. This beautiful cottage is in the most stunning countryside with a wonderful view of Chew Magna lake.

It is spacious, light & airy , comfortably sleeping 8 & with a lovely large open plan kitchen & lounge which had everything we needed.

The cottage was beautifully clean & very well maintained & there was a lovely welcome pack when we arrived. We were able to sit outside on the terrace to eat breakfast & dinner taking in the amazing views! Fabulous!

There is much to do locally ....walking/ cycling & both Bath and Bristol are within easy reach as well as local sights such as Cheddar Gorge & Glastonbury. We had a fabulous evening eating at the Pony & Trap which is a must !

Liz was on hand every day for any advice & tips.

All in all we loved our week here & would definitely plan a return visit.

Excellent property in a scenic location

This is a conversion in first class condition. The owners live at the same location. They don't intrude but are there is needed. They are very pleasant people and a pleasure to do business with. The property has a large enough dining kitchen for 8 people and the same goes for the large lounge. There is one huge double bedroom; the twin and two other doubles are big enough. Of course the arrangement of 3 doubles and one twin may not suit all needs. Two bathrooms are modern and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we are reasonably picky!

The entry gate has a code which aids security so is welcome but means you have to get out of your vehicle to gain entry. Given it rained rather a lot while we were there it would be helpful if there were a couple of slabs to stand on while entering the code rather than muddy grass. For old folk like me downlight rather than uplight in the lounge would be welcome but that's just me. Younger members of the family didn't notice. The heating is set on the cool side but a quick word with the owners soon sorted that out. These last few comments should not stop you going. This is a great place to stay and thoroughly recommended. We will gladly go again if we want to stay in that area again, indeed it would be first choice.
