About the property

Beautiful farmhouse in Haute Vienne, Limousin, France. With stunning countryside views, 5 minutes from the shops and 20 minutes from A20

Paradise is a beautiful 5 bedroom stone farmhouse, set in a lovely location in Haute-Vienne, one of three departments that make up the Limousin region in France, with a fantastic, private heated swimming pool that is available for you to use all year round!

This wonderful, spacious French gite is approximately 150 years old, and features exposed, traditional wooden oak beams and far-reaching countryside views. With terrace dining and large gardens, as well as a large open-plan dining area with lounge and wood-burning fireplace.

Modern living is not forgotten however, with a fully equipped kitchen, utility room, 3D TV with DVDs, games console and games, and free unlimited Wi-Fi use in both the house and pool house. So you don’t have to worry about leaving any of the comforts of modern living behind!

The Haute-Vienne region within the Limousin is wonderfully picturesque and has an abundance of rivers and idyllic hills, French villages and local markets to explore, and delightful local restaurants offering the very best in Limousin cuisine.

The small woodlands behind us are home to a wide variety wildlife, and birds of prey breed each year and are a joy to watch soaring overhead. Nearby rivers also provide the opportunity of some local fishing and Lake Saint Pardoux, which is only 15 minutes away, has a sandy beach, water-sports, peaceful walks, hiking trails, cycle routes and many other leisure facilities for you to partake in all year round.

Paradise really does have it all, and it is no surprise to those of us who live here that this is why the French come here for their summer holidays, as this region of France offers everything anyone could ever want for a perfect holiday!

About Louise Kennedy

We are Roy and Louise and Paradise is our escape from the stresses of our working live as Technical service providers to the conference industry. As we work all over Europe its useful to have our main base in France to use during the busier times of the conference season, and also to relax in when we get a rare few weeks off.

As we spend so much of our working life travelling and living in hotels we wanted to create a place that we were able to unwind in without the need for us to go away on holiday, as for us, getting time at home is the best holiday ever !

Louise Kennedy purchased this farmhouse in 2001

Why Louise Kennedy chose Balledent

At the time I was living in Cheshire and running a business meant that I could work from anywhere as long as I had a good internet connection. When looking at the options I wanted to make sure we could drive to the house in a day as I knew this would make it much more useable for us and local friends, so drew a line on a map of France which was within a days drive and another line where the better weather started, and found a region called the Limousin which at the time I hadnt heard of.

Having made a few viewing appointments with a local estate agent (there was nothing on the internet at this time !) we headed out to see if we liked the area, and we knew immediately that we were so lucky to find a house with such wonderful views yet not isolated so bought it there and then!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Every time I arrive - at whatever time of day or night - its so nice to walk through the door and knowing we have some time here - even if its only a few days before we are off working again.

The quiet lanes are perfect for a walk, and offer wonderful views at every turn. The 30 minute loop around to the next village and back is something I enjoy every day I can.

Being part of a small commune is lovely as I spend a lot of time there on my own so having friendly neighbours is a huge benefit for me. However as we are the first house in the village, most of the windows just look out over the distant hills, so we have the best of both worlds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

and yet a place of so much fun with a wonderful pool. Ian and Ellen had lots of great bike rides from 7am – superb breakfasts en route! Oradour was an interesting and memorable place for 3 generations. Tour de Limousin was a flash of colour and Le Dorat evening market incredible. Thank you for a superb holiday destination.

The village neighbours are extremely welcoming and friendly and often you will find home grown garden produce left by the door! Outside: Large gardens with ornamental pool and covered loggia (sheltered patio area) just off the main house dining area perfect for al-fresco dining. Beyond the immediate garden area is the old orchard which now has the spectacular heated swimming pool with built in steps and sitting areas around the side for lolling around without getting in the way of anyone wanting to swim! Alongside this is the well equipped pool house, BBQ and covered terrace making this area completely self contained from the house and providing everything you need for a 'day by the seaside'. 20 meters from the pool is the boule/petanque court (boules provided) and a further adjacent field perfect for either energetic ball games or quiet contemplation whilst sipping a glass of something nice and looking over the valley and hills beyond. Good quality pool loungers and two all weather sofas give you plenty of places to relax and soak up the sun. There is also a gas barbecue and a wooden dining table and 8 chairs Utility Room: Washing machine, ironing board, drying/airing rack, additional fridge. Also off here is the boiler room which we use as a Gym. Great for those feeling they want to work off all that wine, cheese and fantastic pastries before they get back home! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Everything is provided to make your stay in paradise as enjoyable as possible. Welcoming beds with feather pillows and light-weight duvets and plenty of cotton towels for both showering and swimming pool use. Cleaning is done at the end of each stay. Other: Second lounge/sitting room for either kids to play games or older visitors to have some quiet space as the ground floor twin bedroom is in this part of the house. Upstairs games room with table tennis, pool table, bar football, library and chill out zone!

Perfect time in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful visit to Paradise! We have thoroughly enjoyed everyday here spending time by the pool, out for walks, runs, and fun trips out! Parc Zoo du Reynou is definitely worth a visit, a great trip out for young children. Relaxing evenings playing in the games room and also watching DVD's, beautiful sunsets and skies. We hope to visit again. Thank you for the perfect holiday!

A fab holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely relaxing holiday. Many thanks for allowing us to use such a lovely home and pool. We have spent a lot of our time just unwinding and de-stressing and have enjoyed the peace and quiet in the village. On our trips we have been to the local towns of Chateauponsac and bellac where we have found everything we needed. We had a wonderful trip out to Saint Victurnien to hire kayaks for the afternoon and kayaked down the La Vienne, a great afternoon! Lots of walks, cycling and just enjoying the countryside. Such a fab holiday, thank you! :)

This was one of the best holidays we have taken in France. The house is situated in a remote and quiet village yet so close to town with a range of restaurants to choose from. It was perfect for grand parents and kids alike with plenty of space

This was one of the best holidays we have taken in France. The house is situated in a remote and quiet village yet so close to town with a range of restaurants to choose from. Most of our time was spent by the pool with a fantastic pool house making everything so relaxed and convenient. When we prised ourselves away from the pool the countryside was a beautiful place to explore especially on bikes. The owners are so very helpful and welcoming.

We will definitely be returning again and again!

Fantastic holiday in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Recently returned from a very relaxing weekday retreat at this beautiful French farmhouse.

The views from this gite are stunning, and every one of the bedrooms has a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. The whole house was also kept incredibly clean, and to a very high standard. The bed I slept in (the four poster) was so comfortable, I didn't want to get out in the morning!

The pool and pool house was thoroughly enjoyed, and made good use out of, especially the heated pool! The location of the pool also means you get the sun all through the day, and then a stunning sunset to end the evening.

There's also plenty to do in the surrounding areas; quaint villages, Lac. Pardoux, countryside walks, local festivals/markets and museums/attractions. Enough to meet everyone's tastes!

The owners are both incredibly lovely and friendly. They made me feel immediately welcome, and happily catered to any needs I may have had from the outset.

This really was the perfect holiday, I've never felt so well rested! I would recommend everyone stay here, and I very much look forward to visiting again soon.
