Delightful stone cottage in beautiful surroundings. Very well kept with all amenities. Excellent!!

  • 5 of 5

Stone cottage is a lovely traditional cottage set in quiet village with local Taverna -good food. Very clean and comfortable with all amenities. There was a very generous welcome pack on our arrival. Beautiful surroundings with sea and mountain views. Short drive to Aghia Efimia. Good communication with Vicky and Maria. Maria welcomed us at the cottage even though we had a late arrival and was very helpful. As the sign on the cottage says "This is a small house with a big Welcome". The amenities here are excellent - everything you need. Great location and ideally situated for visiting other parts of the Island. We loved this stone cottage and would definitely return and recommend to other travellers. We had a wonderful holiday here in this little gem in Kefalonia. Thank you Maria and Vicky xx

A realy charming cottage in a beautiful setting, highly reccomended.

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely fantastic cottage and location. It is everything it says in the description and more, the attention to detail with the décor (both inside and out) is meticulous. The cottage is set amongst a variety of shrubs and trees with three or four separate patio areas and is very private. Communication was excellent and Gerry and his family are extremely obliging hosts; we had a washing machine problem that turned out to be totally our fault but Gerry's charming father was on site within half an hour to sort it and was most gracious about the fact that we'd turned the knob the wrong way! The local taverna, a short stroll away, does a reasonable meal for a very good price. Only a short 5 minute drive to beaches on either side of the island. Car hire is obviously a necessity but this a fantastic location for a get-away-from-it-all holiday.

Amazing views ..,and a good base, very easy to find.. Every morning was warm and lit with sunshine, we had our breakfast outside on the terrace every day . Peaceful retreat within hillside village

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at the stone cottage. All communication was excellent through Vicky and Gerry was quickly on hand when we arrived to show us around. They also provided useful directions as to how to find the cottage.

The cottage is rustic and tasteful with all the facilities you may need. A key attribute was all of the outside terraces that were really well kept.

The local village of Makriotika is in a great location giving easy access to all of the north of the island - Fiskardo, Agia Effimia, Sami, Assos and Myrtos beach. The local taverna is just a 100m stroll away with tables set out on a small square. The food was excellent and the father and son host were very welcoming.

All in all we could not fault our stay and would highly recommend.

Delightful holiday cottage in traditional village

  • 4 of 5

The Stone Cottage (which can be challenging to find esp in the dark!) is rustic but characterful and is surrounded by a large mature garden with lemon and fig trees - the figs were ripe when we were there and the lemons falling off the trees. There are numerous different seating areas located around the garden as well as a fantastic outdoor gas BBQ with hot plate and a traditional BBQ. The only negative is (certainly at this time of year) the garden doesn't really get the evening sunshine. The village is very quiet with the local taverna being the hub. We had a couple of nice meals there. I can highly recommend Fia D'Amore in Agia Efemia for breakfast while watching the boats come and go. Great beaches within 15 min drive (Myrtos and Anti Samos). We dealt with Gerry who was very helpful. We had a fantastic 2 week holiday and would highly recommend The Stone Cottage. Allister & Ryan

Relaxed and private yet in the heart of a village

  • 4 of 5

A well-cared for and well supplied cottage in a large, secluded garden. Ripe lemons falling into our laps each day, a shady place to park the car, birds singing til dusk. The owner and family nearby if you need them.

Location

Nearest Airport
45 Kilometres
Argostoli
Nearest Beach
3 Kilometres
Myrtos

Coast/Beach:

A 10 minute drive west of Kalivaki is Myrtos Beach - voted one of the top ten beaches in the world. 25 minutes to the east of the cottage is Antisamos Beach - the location for part of the film set of Captain Corelli's Mandolin - an ideal place for snorkelling. In Agia Efimia, 5 minutes driving from Kalivaki, there are numerous small beaches and coves, some can only be reached by hiring a motor boat and so will give you the seclusion you may wish for.

Travel:

Kefalonia Airport is approximately 40km from Makriotika, about 50 minutes driving. The port of Sami is a 15 minute drive from which you can catch a ferry to the beautiful island of Ithaca, to Patras on the main land of Greece and to Italy. A local bus service runs to Myrtos Beach and in the villages in the valley (further info. available at the tourist office in Agia Efimia). Should you wish to explore the island a hire car is recommended. Taxi are readily available.

Distances:

The capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, with its wealth of shops, restaurants and bars, plus the Archaeological Museum and Corgialeneion Historical and Folk Art Museums is 30km. A 15 minute drive away is the Port of Sami which has a medical centre. The fascinating Drogorati Caves are 11km away and the Mellisani Underground Lake, just outside Karavomilos is 6 km. To the south of the island Poros is 30km and Skala 40km. To the north spectacular Assos is 10km and picturesque Fiskardo is 30km.

Further Details:

Agia Efimia has several supermarkets, 2 bakeries, a post office, a chemist, a cash point, numerous tavernas, bars and coffee bars. One can hire cars and mopeds and motorboats in the village and book tennis courts and scuba diving or water ski lessons. The municipality of Pylaros, in which Agia Efimia is located, offers numerous enchanting walks both in the valley and the surrounding mountains with breathtaking views and wonderful varieties of flora and fauna.

Local villages, such as Dendrinata and Drakapoulata, offer an insight into unspoilt Greek rural life and numerous buildings and sites of historical interest. We recommend a trip to Mount Enos, Kefalonias highest mountain, to enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Kefalonia and other Ionian Islands. Stop for some local wine-tasting at the village of Frangata.

Follow the dramatic cliff and mountain road to Myrtos Beach, then wind down in the atmospheric little harbour of Assos. Take a boat trip from Sami across to nearby Ithaca or take the twice-daily boat trip from Fiscardo to explore Lefkas.

Explore the fishing port of Fiskardo for its smart yachts and charming narrow streets of Venetian-style houses. Native to Kefalonia are some of the best beaches in Greece. Hire a small boat and spend the day visiting tiny isolated beaches and coves all along the pretty coastline. Drive along the main coastal road to Sami and stumble across small scattered beaches amongst the rocks.

Much of the busy nightlife in Kefalonia is concentrated in the main town of Argostoli. The central square is lined with many restaurants, cafes and bars.

In Kefalonia you will find an abundance of spectacular scenery, traditional tavernas, stunning white beaches and warm, friendly Greek hospitality.
