About the property

E877

Our 8 peaceful cottages are dotted around our working organic dairy farm, set in unspoilt countryside on the beautiful South Devon coast.

All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the stunning coast path and some lovely remote beaches and coves, whilst the wilderness of Dartmoor is only a short drive away. The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away.

Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe or visit the historic port of Plymouth. Why not visit out of season and cosy down by a roaring log fire, or come and see the lambs in spring? We are open all year and offer a Friday or Monday changeover day – so come for a week or a short break at any time of year!

We put fresh local organic milk in each cottage for guests on arrival. Carswell is also the birthplace of the Well Hung Meat Company so our visitors can taste award winning local organic lamb and beef.

All the cottages are extremely well equipped with digital widescreen TVs, DVDs, washing machines, dishwashers etc and all have private gardens with patio table and BBQ. Children of all ages are very welcome and we provide toys, games and books to make them feel at home. We also have a lovely wildflower meadow with a delightful play area – complete with Alice the Tractor! Cots and high chairs available free of charge on request.

Well behaved dogs are very welcome in all the cottages except The Mews and The Beach Hut. Dogs are allowed all year round on our local beaches and also welcomed in our local pubs. Private, fenced gardens and walks straight from the front door make this a fantastic place for a holiday with your dog!

Please don't hesitate to email or call us if you have any queries and I hope we can welcome you to Carswell Farm and this special part of Devon soon.

About Katherine Harding

The Sayers Family have lived and farmed in the area for generations, with Geoff's father buying Carswell Farm in the 1950s. The family farm was expanded in the 1960s with the purchase of Lambside Farm and Caulston Farm. So the whole farm now stretches for nearly 3 miles along the coast and the mild climate means that our cows enjoy fresh sea air and lush green grass all year round!

Katherine Harding purchased this cottage in 1949

Why Katherine Harding chose South Hams

We have lived here all our lives and still love it! The farm is set in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty and is also right on the South West Coast Path. The nearby beaches and coves are beautiful, peaceful and full of exploration potential! Even in high summer ou can often get the beaches to yourselves...

Guestbook comments from the manager

"It was superlative in all aspects. Over reliance on internet photographs can often lead to disappointment. However Corner Cottage vastly exceeded our expectations" (Corner Cottage).

"We really loved our stay and particularly cherished the moments that Chloe (nearly 4 yrs) enjoyed including walks along the path, hearing owls, seeing the stars... Thank you so much, don't change anything!" (Shepherd's Cottage).

"The Lodge is fantastic accommodation with everything finished to a high standard. It was even better than expected so we couldn't fault it" (The Lodge).

"A lovely warm and cosy cottage 'a deux' - it was just as we imagined it would be. So calm and relaxing, especially the quiet of the beautiful countryside and deep bubble baths in the 'cow bath'!" (The Mews).

"The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. We have stayed here twice and will definitely be coming back." (Lambside House).

Beautiful cottage in lovely tranquil surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Corner cottage is a truly beautiful cottage, furnished and equipped to a very high standard. We particularly loved the open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with its gorgeous log burner - the perfect room for socialising and relaxing with friends.

It's close to some secluded beaches and fantastic walks along the coast. ~We'll definitely be back for a summer break!

We have just had a wonderful few days staying at the Mews, the cottage was clean, well equipped and well run. This area is outstanding for country and sea beauty. We cannot wait to come again and do more exploring in this wonderful part of England

A spacious, sunny cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely winter stay at Corner Cottage - toasty warm (especially with the woodburner alight!) and so welcoming. The large garden was great for the dogs and there were some dog-friendly pubs close by. Heaven!

Owner's Response: So pleased that you liked the cottage - and I agree, the woodburner is amazing, especially on a cold winter's day!
