About this property

Casa Shalimar - sitting on the rocks. Jump into the Mediterranean Sea!

Casa Shalimar is situated on the edge of the sleepy fishing village of La Herradura on the Costa Tropical, the warmest part of southern Spain. It is 70km east of Malaga in the province of Granada. Park at the top and then walk down many steps to the gates to the house. Open the front door and you are greeted with the feeling of being on a boat as all you can see is the Mediterranean. Change into your costume and jump from the rocks or use the steps into the sea. Snorkel and dive in the clear blue sea. It's claimed galleons from the Spanish Armada sank nearby and many divers search the seabed for gold coins. The house has lovely terraces overlooking the bay and a picturesque infinity pool. The property nestles on the rocks and is totally secluded. One can watch dolphins swimming and jumping in the bay and enjoy hours of snorkling from the luxury of one's own house. Casa Shalimar is decorated in an eclectic, shabby-chic style, with many paintings and unique decors (antique pots etc..) the house has been designed (and newly renovated) to a comfortable and Moroccan style home

A very special house indeed !
Visited Casa Shalimar with friends for a joint 30th wedding Anniversary celebration and what a fantastic week we all had in this wonderful villa perched on the rocks on top of the sea . The pictures really don’t convey what a special place it is . The fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality , I’ve never stayed in a house with so much kitchen ware , all of which has been chosen with the utmost care . La Herradura is a 10-15 minute walk away with beach bars and restaurants a plenty . It is an unspoilt Spanish resort which is a breath of fresh air . Lovely Marina in the next bay with harbour side eateries and boat hire . There is always something to watch from the house terraces , kayaks, dive boats , wake-boarding , we even saw a dog on a paddle board with its owner ! There’s no carrying the customary bottles of water down the steps either as the fridge has filtered water and ice . I have been waiting many many years to visit this particular villa and I’m happy to say it met all my expectations, and some !

Stunning location. Beautiful House.
Although the house is decorated with great taste and the layout is fantastic, Case Shalimar is all about the view and proximity to the sea. The master bedroom has floor to ceiling windows and waking up to that view each morning was a great way to start each day. The second bedroom was a great size and had a large bathroom with a tub and wet room type shower. The third bedroom was a twin but the beds were big. All rooms were ensuite, which was nice. There were also some built in bunk type beds just off the kitchen. They were hidden away. Really quite a clever use of space. The Infinity pool was a dream (even had a little waterfall area) and as the weather was lovely we ventured down the rocks (that have steps) and also swam in the sea. I’m a chef and the kitchen was a dream to cook in, full of everything you need to make a meal. We spent most evenings eating on the huge terrace with the sea right behind us. Bliss. To be honest you need not leave the house. However if you do, it’s only a 5 minute walk to La Herradura proper, where you’ll find lots of bars and restaurants right along the beach. La Herradura is where the Spanish go for a break. It’s that authentic, and as such it’s easy to get immersed in the culture and especially the food. The owner Clare was also really helpful when I had a question and she even arranged for a lovely hamper basket upon our arrival, which was a nice touch as we arrived late in the evening and were famished. I couldn't recommend this place more. We’ll be going back without hesitation.

Stunning sea views
Casa Shalimar was exactly as described - a private, spacious waterside property with character & outstanding views. The large outside eating area has an excellent canopy & seating where one can totally relax whilst taking in the absolutely stunning views across the bay & sea. Having a path from the house to the sea was brilliant & the water temperature was about 25 degrees (very comfortable). Take a face mask & snorkel as the rocky sub-sea views are beautiful & fish are very colourful. There's a fishing rod & tackle in the house where one can idle away a few hours at the end of the day. If you don't fancy the sea you get the same breathtaking vista from the pool. Having filtered water in the kitchen was a real bonus - no need to lug bottled water from the shops. La Herradura itself is a genuinely Spanish location. Plenty of bars & restaurants, plus a large beach. There are about 140 shallow gradient steps to take you back to civilisation when you want to venture out. In summary, if it is a villa with truly unbeatable views in a private location with spacious verandas, you are unlikely to find better.

The Place to be!!!

I'm a mother of 2 almost adult sons, I work hard, enjoys life and travel more than most people, I believe. All over the world. I simply fell in love with this amazing and very unique house. It's just different - has a soul to it. Not a super modern "cold" show-off house, but just very, very nice and different. I put a lot of energy in renovating it without losing the charm of the house and making sure it's it easy to be a guest in - when you only have a week or two, you want no hassle :-)

Why they chose this property

Nothing can compare! Being so close to the sea and simply be able to jump into it from the cliffs is very unique. You cannot build so close to sea anymore - it is a preserved area, but since it was build long before those rules were applied - it is allowed to be kept as is. Lucky me - and maybe lucky you too :-) ?

What makes this property unique

You will fall in love with it - just like I did.
