Excellent Holiday Accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We were large groups of family friend stayed here in this accommodation with children for 3 nights over a bank holiday weekend.

The both Hafod main building and the attached cortege are in excellent condition with large kitchen areas. Children are always been out in the big gardens and never wanted to come into the house :-), adults payed cricket, foot ball etc too.

Nearby, there is very good sand beach too and only 15 minutes drive. Arrive when there is a still light to find this building as it will be little hard when you arrive in the night but not very difficult.

We went to Zoo with in an hour drive and the animals including Tiger is interesting.

Newport village is very nearby to drive, and the village center is handy to do a bit of workaround.

The owner Josy is very helpful with pre arrival information and all questions answred.

All in all we really enjoyed our long weekend with children and given a chance we wanted to visit again next time.

Thanks

Satya

Owner's Response: Dear Satya, Thank you for this complimentary and interesting review which makes all the preparation worth while. Your family certainly seem to have made the most of stay at Hafod Grove - managing to fit in time to visit the zoo! I'm so pleased the children enjoyed the grounds - nothing like a game of cricket on the lawn. Ann also says thank you for leaving the property clean and tidy and we would most certainly welcome you all for a return visit to Hafod Grove. Best Wishes, Josy

Lovely property, great location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this beautiful property and it's great to see all the improvements that have been made - especially the extended kitchen which now seated our group of 20 very comfortably with room for more. The beds and bedlinen were lovely and comfy and we had everything that we needed for our stay. We went back to a couple of beaches we'd visited in the past but also explored some new ones higher up the coast including the stunning Llangrannog. Ann the housekeeper was super helpful. Would recommend this property highly.

A great place for a family gettogether

  • 5 of 5

It's like a big old country mansion or farmhouse with creaking floor boards, wide stairways and halls, a centre piece kitchen and great surrounding lawns.

It met all we wanted, 5 grandkids loved it, having the run of the place and a big garden with swings and slide. Once they were in bed we cooked and drank in the kitchen which has a nice big table and an aga keeping everything warm especially the dog. The road outside is very very quiet so plenty of space for dog walking. Plenty of wildlife around including red kites.

Never needed to see the manager but could phone her to sort any issues out. We had Tesco deliver as we arrived, could probably do with a new fridge freezer with a good ice dispenser.

Need to take towels and hand soap for the many bathrooms.

Wireless Internet worked in the kitchen but a bit weak in some bedrooms.

The place is hidden away in country lanes, nearby Newport and cardigan have nice pubs to eat in at lunchtime.

We had a great time, really relaxing

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Hafod Grove. Thank you for this excellent review which makes all the background work worthwhile. I am sure that future guests will find your observations useful. I have noted your comments about the fridge/freezer and a replacement is in storage currently - as are several other appliances and fitments for the kitchen. I am revamping the kitchen / dining room as part of on-going improvements to the House. Unfortunately the House will have to close for this work during the month of November up until Christmas. I'm also very glad that the children enjoyed the grounds and outdoor play equipment as it makes carrying a climbing frame 242 miles in a jeep worthwhile! Hopefully we shall see your group again for another celebration or holiday. Many Thanks and Best Wishes, Josy and Ann.

Beautiful area, lots of lovely walks. House was great, just needed a bit of maintenance but clean and plenty of room. Good pubs/restaurants within 4or 5 miles. Owner very friendly and helpful. Fine and bright weather for the most part (early Oct). A wonderful holiday.

HAFOD GROVE

  • 4 of 5

we were a large group of 20 family members and we were all very happy with the facilities and the size of the property and grounds. The location was excellent for beach trips sight seeing walking and golf...and swimming! We stayed for one week and self catered the entire time. The cooking facilities and cooking utensils were all to a high standard and met our requirements. All the beds were comfy. it was good to have two sitting rooms: one for TV watching and one we used as a quiet room. Some of the rooms were excellent however the annex was a bit dated and the bunk bedroom was very squashed, with no hanging space and was a bit noisy; every time someone showered it triggered noises in the boiler which was in the same room.

Owner's Response: Hi Jan, We are really pleased that you had a good holiday at Hafod Grove. Thank you for taking the time to write this excellent and useful review of your stay in both Hafod Grove House and Hafod Villa. You seem to have made the most of your holiday. Apologies about the bunk bedroom, especially the noise which must be the pump for the showers (and as we've added 2 extra recently this will be used more frequently). I shall consult with the plumber how best to muffle this. The boiler is situated in an outbuilding so no fear of carbon monoxide fumes at least. This winter I am making a few changes to the Main House which I hope will not adversely affect bookings. I intend to sacrifice the large family bedroom downstairs to make an even bigger Kitchen / Dining area which I think may become quite a focal point. In the meantime, Ann and her team said thank you for leaving the property nice and tidy as it does help with the changeover. Hopefully we shall see you again at some stage. Best Wishes Josy Wade

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time that me and my friends have taken the property and we had the best time. The house has absolutely everything you could need as well as quiet, peace and a stunning view. There are also a huge amount of things to do locally including lunch at the ferry inn, relaxing on the beach or just enjoying the pretty town of Cardigan. I would recommend this house to everyone.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Hafod Grove is centuries old, the kitchen has such thick walls and was the original farmhouse area more or less. Greatly enlarged in the Georgian style Gentleman's Residence either during in late 18th or early 19th century. It was then 'modernised' in more or less it's current form by the Colby family who owned much of the land in the area, Colby Gardens South of the County are open to the public.
