What makes this chateau / country house unique

The Huge kitchen dining room 33' x 15' with seating for 24 makes Hafod Grove an excellent venue for celebrations and family holidays and weekend breaks. The beautiful location and large private gardens makes Hafod Grove exceptionally appealing especially the wonderful variety of mature trees. Pretty Ceibwr Bay is within easy walking distance of around a mile from the House with a riverside footpath providing a delightful alternative route to the sea. The sea views from the gardens and upper floors are a lovely bonus especially in winter when there are no leaves obscuring the view. The House has rather a grand staircase and window and having a servant's staircase too is very convenient. The open fireplaces are wonderfully homely during the winter months and the cosy Aga makes the kitchen a mecca for guests.

Excellent! 4.6/5 -

A great place for a family gettogether

  • 5 of 5

It's like a big old country mansion or farmhouse with creaking floor boards, wide stairways and halls, a centre piece kitchen and great surrounding lawns.

It met all we wanted, 5 grandkids loved it, having the run of the place and a big garden with swings and slide. Once they were in bed we cooked and drank in the kitchen which has a nice big table and an aga keeping everything warm especially the dog. The road outside is very very quiet so plenty of space for dog walking. Plenty of wildlife around including red kites.

Never needed to see the manager but could phone her to sort any issues out. We had Tesco deliver as we arrived, could probably do with a new fridge freezer with a good ice dispenser.

Need to take towels and hand soap for the many bathrooms.

Wireless Internet worked in the kitchen but a bit weak in some bedrooms.

The place is hidden away in country lanes, nearby Newport and cardigan have nice pubs to eat in at lunchtime.

We had a great time, really relaxing

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Hafod Grove. Thank you for this excellent review which makes all the background work worthwhile. I am sure that future guests will find your observations useful. I have noted your comments about the fridge/freezer and a replacement is in storage currently - as are several other appliances and fitments for the kitchen. I am revamping the kitchen / dining room as part of on-going improvements to the House. Unfortunately the House will have to close for this work during the month of November up until Christmas. I'm also very glad that the children enjoyed the grounds and outdoor play equipment as it makes carrying a climbing frame 242 miles in a jeep worthwhile! Hopefully we shall see your group again for another celebration or holiday. Many Thanks and Best Wishes, Josy and Ann.

Beautiful area, lots of lovely walks. House was great, just needed a bit of maintenance but clean and plenty of room. Good pubs/restaurants within 4or 5 miles. Owner very friendly and helpful. Fine and bright weather for the most part (early Oct). A wonderful holiday.

we were a large group of 20 family members and we were all very happy with the facilities and the size of the property and grounds. The location was excellent for beach trips sight seeing walking and golf...and swimming! We stayed for one week and self catered the entire time. The cooking facilities and cooking utensils were all to a high standard and met our requirements. All the beds were comfy. it was good to have two sitting rooms: one for TV watching and one we used as a quiet room. Some of the rooms were excellent however the annex was a bit dated and the bunk bedroom was very squashed, with no hanging space and was a bit noisy; every time someone showered it triggered noises in the boiler which was in the same room.

Owner's Response: Hi Jan, We are really pleased that you had a good holiday at Hafod Grove. Thank you for taking the time to write this excellent and useful review of your stay in both Hafod Grove House and Hafod Villa. You seem to have made the most of your holiday. Apologies about the bunk bedroom, especially the noise which must be the pump for the showers (and as we've added 2 extra recently this will be used more frequently). I shall consult with the plumber how best to muffle this. The boiler is situated in an outbuilding so no fear of carbon monoxide fumes at least. This winter I am making a few changes to the Main House which I hope will not adversely affect bookings. I intend to sacrifice the large family bedroom downstairs to make an even bigger Kitchen / Dining area which I think may become quite a focal point. In the meantime, Ann and her team said thank you for leaving the property nice and tidy as it does help with the changeover. Hopefully we shall see you again at some stage. Best Wishes Josy Wade

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time that me and my friends have taken the property and we had the best time. The house has absolutely everything you could need as well as quiet, peace and a stunning view. There are also a huge amount of things to do locally including lunch at the ferry inn, relaxing on the beach or just enjoying the pretty town of Cardigan. I would recommend this house to everyone.

Very spacious( Garden and House both), Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 12 people from a care home. The Garden and the villas are very spacious. Plenty of room for everyone. It is also very close to sea sides and other attractions. All of our residents and staff had a good time while there and only have positive feedback.

Ms Evans was also very helpful and went extra mile by providing us some information on where we could go for wheelchair friendly walks as we had people on wheelchairs. She also brought us a book that had all the activities suitable for people on wheelchairs. I highly recommend the place. Keep up the good work

I shall pass on your kind comments to Ann who is always very willing to help. She commented on how tidy and clean you left the House and Cottage so thank you for that also. Hopefully we may see your group again for another holiday in the future. Best Wishes, Josy (and Ann)

Notes on accommodation: Hafod Grove is centuries old, the kitchen has such thick walls and was the original farmhouse area more or less. Greatly enlarged in the Georgian style Gentleman's Residence either during in late 18th or early 19th century. It was then 'modernised' in more or less it's current form by the Colby family who owned much of the land in the area, Colby Gardens South of the County are open to the public. Ideal for holidays, long weekends and celebrations and large group get togethers (catering is available). Dignified hen & stag parties are welcome. Hafod Grove enjoys a wonderful setting; walk to pretty Ceibwr Bay. Lots of local activities and sports or relax in the garden and soak up the ethos of this lovely old place. Children love playing hide and seek in the rambling grounds and mysterious house. By the way there are servants' stairs so don't forget to bring your butler! Free wifi, Central heating, Linen, Free Sky+ HD TV in Hafod Grove House. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Outside: Hafod Grove House has over 1 acres of garden, including woodland, shrubs and mainly lawn it is a delight for children and adults with swings and trampoline and a patio barbeque area accessed via one of the reception rooms or the garden. Hafod Villa has almost an acre of garden that which is private from the larger house due to a 2m high fence and high hedge. Mainly lawn the children enjoy the swings and trampoline and it is fairly level so ideal for ball games. Although not totally dog proof (it's too big!) the garden is enclosed and is safe for children because the it is tucked away behind a small woodland, some 80m from the very quiet lane it is a very safe play area. There is ample off road parking, both houses have separate drives and parking. Utility Room: Washing machine. Iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels are optional extras, Hafod Grove is cleaned between guests, if you stay for 2 weeks then you still have a mid-stay clean and change of linen. If you require extra cleaning or laundry please enquire. Other: The halls are exceptionally wide and the landing is often used as a play stage by children
