Apartment in Cala D'Or, Mallorca - 3 Communal Pools, Landscaped Gardens, Next to Marina

The resort of Cala D'Or is 45 mins drive from Palma Airport and the apartment is part of a newly built (2008) gated complex with pool and landscaped gardens, a 7 min stroll from the popular Marina and its excellent restaurants, bars and cafes. The vibrant Cala D'Or town centre is only 10 mins walk away with many bars, restaurants, designer shops as well as the practical stuff like banks, pharmacy, post office and supermarkets. Although hiring a car is recommended to get the most out of your visit it is not essential, the local road train will get you around the resort and stops at all the local beaches and coves. Good transport from/to the airport with coach/bus and there are many taxis serving the area. Within 10 mins drive is the beautiful Mondrago Natural Park and Val D'Or Golf, one of the most attractive courses on Mallorca for 18 holes or just a relaxing lunch. Son Antem and Capdepera courses are a short drive away.

About Jane

Jane and I are married, we have two teenage sons who have taught us all we know about the 'Hotel' business and a Beardie called Doyle. We live in the midlands on the outskirts of Coventry and have been going to Mallorca since before kids and have grown to love its charm and simplicity.

Why Jane chose Santanyi

We have loved Mallorca from the first time we came, Cala d'Or was recommended to us about 10 years ago when we were looking for a nice family location and it is perfect. Most people we have met over the years have been there before and many come back over again. When we were looking to buy we originally looked in mainland Spain, we didnt think we could afford to buy in Mallorca but then in 2007 we found out about this El Peurto II development and it's great location and the rest, as they say, was history. We have made some great friends amongst the other owners, restaurants and residents, we love it and think you will too.

What makes this apartment unique

El Puerto II is a relatively small, privately owned development. The owners take great care in the site and because it is private it is never particularly busy, even in August, as everyone takes different holidays and not all are renting. It's location is perfect for us, 5 mins to the beautiful Marina and it's great restaurants and bars, we love watching the world go by or strolling off our dinner. The town is close enough to walk in 10 mins but we are off the beaten track so very quiet, especially at night. The finish on the apartments is good, Taylor Wimpy are a British firm with 25+ years in Spain so good quality and sympathetic with the area.

Notes on accommodation: Ideal for families with young children, the private grounds with lawned and shaded areas adjacent to the pools are secure with pedestrian and vehicle access via the electric gated entrance. Please note - this is a non smoking apartment. Outside: 3 pools with sun loungers, garden areas with lawn and trees/shrubs, numbered parking space allocated for the apartment. Utility Room: Clothes airer, iron/ironing board. Large capacity water heater provides hot water to the apartment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, bath and hand towels provided for 4 guests and will be changed at the end of each week. Apartment will be cleaned before your stay and additional clean can be arranged for stays over 1 week. Other: Large sliding window leads onto patio with hardwood table and 4 chairs ideal for your al fresco dining or if you fancy a night off from the many great restaurants. Views across green belt and hills beyond.

Wonderful property in a terrific family resort.

Really enjoyed it! The apartment is in a well cared for development which really is not busy if you just want to relax by the pool. Steve and Jane were wonderful in providing the well equipped property and information to help us maximise our enjoyment. Will return!

Apartment in peaceful complex.

Lovely apartment close to the marina. Nicely furnished. Nice pool with plenty of sunbeds Owners were extremely helpful sending us useful information. Good size balcony to enjoy Al fresco dining etc. Fairly easy walk to supermarkets and the centre of Cala d'or.

Instructions given prior to the visit were excellent.

Only thing missing really was a microwave.

Very useful having 2 bathrooms.

The beaches in Cala d'or are busy and narrow but we found 2 beautiful beaches a short drive away at Port Colom and in the national park.

The gated community made it feel very safe and secure.

Conveniently situated near the centre and the marina

A compact apartment in a quiet area but not far from restaurants and the beach. The marina is just a short 5 minute walk and the pool area is clean and quiet (although we were there just after the school holidays had finished).The layout was good as was the view from the terrace. Could do with WIFI which is now pretty much standard wherever you go but this didn't spoil our experience at all. The owners were ok to deal with but a little laid back regarding arrangements with keys and providing info on car hire ( which was never received.) The cutlery could do with being replaced since a lot of it is now rusty,

Overall it was a pleasant stay and would say that for anyone looking for a base that doesn't require the use of a car it is certainly worth considering

A quiet, good sized apartment.

The apartment was very good, it has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Pool areas were very clean and there was always sun beds by one of the three pools. The location is great, only a short walk to the beach and the restaurants.

Finally, the owners Jane and Steve are a pleasure to deal with, great communications and information throughout the process.

Fantastic holiday

Lovely spacious apartment. Really well equipped and clean. Owners were brilliant, great communication throughout. Imaculate grounds, choice of 3 pools which were never overcrowded. Sun loungers always available regardless of the time of day. Really quiet on an evening and only 10 mins walk into town. I would highly recommend. Debra

Location

Special interest holidays:

The marina has sailing, motor boat & jet ski charters, there is a Padi registered dive centre at Cala Gran beach and Mallorca is a popular destination for cyclist particularly during the mild winter months. The Caves of Drach are 20 mins away in Porto Cristo and a must see.

Coast/Beach:

The Cala D’Or areas many rocky coves with clear water leading to sandy beaches are very popular & can be quite crowded in mid summer. The largest, Cala Gran in the heart of the town, Cala Serena, Cala Ferrera are all within a few minutes of the apartment. Cala Esmeralda is small, pretty & has retained much of its original charm with the buildings set back from the beach. Spend a relaxing day at Mondragó Natural Park, 10 mins drive and, like all the beaches, on the road train route.

Travel:

Palma airport 45 mins, taxi fares can be negotiated before and expect to pay around €60-70. Hiring a car is good value and recommended to get the most out of your visit but it’s not essential, the local road train will get you around the resort and stops at all the local beaches. Coach operators offer good value transfers and public buses run from Palma to Cala D'Or on a regular basis through the summer.

Distances:

Walking: Marina 7 mins, supermarket 5 mins, restaurants & bars 10 mins, beach 15 mins

Driving: Airport 55 km (37 miles) Palma 60km (40 miles), Water park Magaluf 83km (52 miles), Caves of Drach Porto Cristo 26km (16 miles), Manacor 30km (19 miles), Pollenca 74km (46 miles).

Further Details:

Spar supermarket (medium sized) & butcher, greengrocer, etc. in shops 5 mins walk. Large Eroski supermarket is 5 mins drive or 20 min walk, typical large store with homeware, electrical & cafe.
