About the Owner

I live in Dorset, England and have two children, both of whom are making their way in the world. I was lucky enough to retire early, nine years ago, having run an electronics company for many years, I don't know when I had time to go to work and have never understood why some people are reluctant to retire early, if, of course, they are fortunate enough to do so. The reality is that the world is full of lots of interesting things to do, whether it be travelling or in my particular case, sailing and enjoying my villa in Cyprus.

From the Owner

I first visited Cyprus 30 years ago and instantly fell in love with the country – it's climate, history, proximity of beaches and mountains, and most of all it's friendly people. I purchased my villa in early 2006 and chose Pissouri because of its position, half way between Paphos and Limassol, the very friendly villagers, many of whom have now become close personal friends and quite simply because Pissouri is a beautiful, larger than average size village, with all the amenities you could possibly wish for.

Activity and Interests

Pissouri Bay, one of the best beaches on the south coast (it is a Blue Flag beach), is just 8 mins drive away. At the beach you can hire a wide range of water sport equipment, as well as sun loungers etc - all at a very reasonable price. The Bay area also has a number of excellent restaurants and tavernas, as well as the renowned Columbia Beach Hotel complex where you can really spoil yourself in the spas, swimming pools and restaurants - or even get married.

The nearest airport is Paphos, just 20 minutes drive away, with regular flights from all parts of the UK. The other main airport in the southern part of the island, at Larnaca, is approximately 1¼ hour’s drive away. Car hire, at exceptionally reasonable prices, can be arranged through the owner. Car hire is highly recommended as the bus services in Cyprus are not that frequent.

The villa is just 10 mins walk from the centre of Pissouri village and its well known Square which has many shops, three different banks, numerous restaurants and tavernas. Pissouri is almost equidistant from the major towns of Paphos and Limassol, each about 30km away along the main road. Both towns have all the major shopping chains, including such UK giants as M&S, Next and Debenhams, as well as all the local Cypriot outlets for gold/silver, leather and materials at very reasonable prices.

Further Details:

The Ostrich Farm, just the other side of the dual carriageway from Pissouri, offers great food, and enjoyment for all ages - you can take a bus ride around the farm and children can hold young ostriches. Perhaps one of the most useful services in the village is the Galatia supermarket, down the hill towards the village Square - it is open every day from early in the morning to early evening. Next door to the Galatia is an excellent local butchers, which offers all meats at exceptionally good prices. Try the ribeye steak, at a third of the price you will pay in the UK. Pissouri provides one of the most enjoyable aspects of a Cypriot holiday with it's Cyprus nights - Wednesday evening in Pissouri Square (the Vraka Taverna is recommended) and Friday evening in the Vine Leaf Taverna in Pissouri Bay. Both offer a fantastic evening of local Cypriot song and dance as well as great food - not to be missed and booking is advised. Also during the season, many concerts are held in the Pissouri Ampitheatre, another great way to enjoy the delights of Cyprus. The other delight to mention is the Indian restaurant in the Bay area, which will also do a "take away" - one of the best Indian restaurants we have ever dined in. Also there are of course many historical sites and monasteries within easy reach of Pissouri, taking you back through many thousands of years of history. Finally, there are the Troodos Mountains, a good days outing through some splendid countryside, with fantastic views across the island. Depending on the time of year, you can actually ski in the mountains in the morning and then come back to the coast and swim in the sea - a very special experience.

From the Owner

Being an 'upside down villa' (bedrooms down stairs), situated on a ridge on the outskirts of Pissouri, Villa Emalia offers a quiet, relatively cool environment in the summer heat. It is also very much an 'all the year round' villa in that it has central heating for the cooler winter months. Its position also provides breathtaking views over Pissouri Bay with easy walking access to the centre of the village and its many tavernas, shops and banks A short drive to the beach enables you to enjoy one of the best beaches in the south, with a wide range of water sports for hire.
