We had an amazing time, thanks for all your help and advice. The setting and house is beautiful with plenty of room for the kids to run around. We did loads of outings and really enjoyed the Cote d'Emeraude beaches and the amazing Baie de Mont St. Michel. We managed to get up for market day at St. Hilaire, which was great. We've had an amazing holiday an love the Normandy/Brittany area.

What a pleasure to stay with Ged. The Cottage is welcoming and a delight to stay in. It exceeded our expectations, was even more than we had hoped for. Not only was The Cottage well set up and comfortable, it was warm and inviting, it felt like a home. Knowing that we could travel around Normandy and come home to sit and relax only after a day of visiting many of the sights within the area made the overall experience sensational.

We would come back here time and time again, without hesitation.

Wonderful cottage on the edge of a hamlet

  • 5 of 5

We booked only a week before our arrival date, however, Lisa and Ged couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful in the run up to our holiday. Communication was excellent.

Upon arrival at the cottage we were warmly welcomed by Lisa and Ged, who live on site, and given a quick tour of our cottage to ensure we were comfortable and knew how everything worked. They were very happy for us to call on them for any help or advice during our stay, which is always reassuring. I would state here though that we were were left to enjoy the cottage without any interference. Lisa and Ged have got the balance of friendliness vs privacy perfectly right.

The cottage is well equipped, with comfy sofas and UK TV stations and beds with good pillows and lovely bed linen. The cottage is clean and well maintained.

Although the cottage is in a rural location, a local supermarket is only 10 minutes drive away. Fresh bread and croissants are only a 5 minute walk away which is a lovely bonus!

A local pizzaria in St Hilaire (10 minutes drive away) was very good value for money and the food was excellent. Also to be recommended is Auberge du Lac, about 25 minutes drive away in Vezins serving excellent food and very welcoming hospitality.

All in all, this was a fantastic week away; We had lovely weather and thoroughly enjoyed staying in a quaint cottage which I would recommend highly to anyone considering staying in this area.

Thanks Lisa and Ged for your wonderful hospitality - hope to see you again soon.

Excellent value for money

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday. The gite is a real home from home, beautifully decorated and full of character. Our son loved the huge garden, there was even a shed where he could help himself to toys.

Ged and Lisa were perfect hosts and had lots of recommendations of places to visit. There are beautiful beaches about 45 minutes away and The Enchanted Village is a must if you have young children.

We were all very sad to leave and hope we can return soon.

Great Hosts & Location

  • 4 of 5

Ged & Lisa were amazing hosts.. they had lots of tips and information to give us on our very first trip to Normandy. The Cottage was clean and quaint and offered great facilities. The garden was extensive and plenty of room to relax and eat al fresco, however the seating was limited and would have benefitted from loungers for a more relaxing afternoon in the garden.

We were given lots of inside information as to events in the local area and tips about other attractions further afield

The location was excellent as most sightseeing could be done in just over an hour including Le Mont St Michel.

Would definitely go back to the area and would recommend La Mancelliere to our friends and family.

Thank you again Lisa and Ged, wishing you lots of success.

Perfect base for our Normandy holiday

  • 5 of 5

La Mancellière was the perfect base for our week long holiday in Normandy, including visiting Bayeux and the D Day beaches.and shorter drives to Mont St Michel, Cancale and local towns. There are plenty of things to do including visiting sights and walks and other outdoor activities.

Situated a short walk from a small village with essential shops, and a short drive from a small town with a hypermarket and larger selection of shops and restaurants. The road passing through Buais is well maintained, providing quick and easy links to the wider area.

An Immaculately clean and well presented property, comfortably furnished for four, the cottage is cosy with plenty of space for four adults. The gardens would provide safe space for small children to play and were a relaxing place to spend time enjoying the peaceful country air.

The owners live on site and are welcoming but discreet hosts offering reliable advice about the local area. Booking and payment arrangements were clear and straight forward, and our deposit was returned promptly.

We'd be happy recommending the property to family or friends looking to stay in this area.

We are 40 minutes from Brittany's spectacular Emerald Coast with golden sandy beaches and turquoise seas. Seafood lovers can enjoy world-renowned scallops, oysters, fish and mussels at port towns such as Cancale, which have fabulous views of the coastline. Most local beaches are quiet, secluded and spotlessly clean with some larger beaches offering kite surfing, sand yachting and excellent surfing.

Travel:

La Mancellière is within easy reach of the ports of Caen, St. Malo, Cherbourg, Le Havre and the airports of Dinard and Rennes. Our property is at the end of a quiet country lane just off the N176 between Avranches and Domfront. We are 90 minutes from Caen, 70 minutes from St. Malo and 2 ½ hours from Cherbourg. Rennes and Dinard airports are just 60 mins away.

A car is recommended for your holiday and car hire is available at all ports and airports.

Distances:

La Mancellière is a 5 minute walk from the pretty village of Buais and a 10 minute drive from the bustling market town of St. Hilaire du Harcouet. We are 40 minutes from the World Heritage site of Mont Saint Michel, Brittany's stunning beaches and the hill town of Mortain with its eerie white abbey and spectacular waterfalls. South of the property are the luxurious chateaux and wine regions of the Loire.

Further Details:

The local village of Buais has a traditional bakery and butcher’s shop and a bar/tabac with a tasty lunch menu. St. Hilaire du Harcouet is the closest town and has the largest weekly market in Normandy every Wednesday. Here you can find three major supermarkets, many restaurants and bars and a large tourist office with English-speaking staff. The Manche region of Normandy is a fantastic place to enjoy outdoor pursuits and we have river-fishing, horse-riding, walking and cycling on our doorstep. There are 250 kilometres of Voies Vertes (Green Routes) in the region which are reserved solely for walkers, horses and horse-drawn vehicles. All tours are signposted and graded according to difficulty and maps and brochures are available from tourist offices. We also have an impressive 1,000 kilometres of dedicated cycle trails for all levels and abilities. Kids will love Champrepus zoo, Alligator Bay, Mortain's waterfalls and Bellefontaine's fairy-tale amusement park which are all less than 45 minutes from the property.
