About the property

Apartment in Tavira Town, Algarve, Portugal - Quiet Portuguese Residential Area, Close To Amenities.Portuguese rental licence number 13048/AL

Spacious ground floor apartment in the historic town of Tavira ( there are 11 steps at the main entrance), with a large secure patio area & views to the Ocean and Ria Formosa. Situated in a quiet Portuguese residential area close to the N125. Please note that the apartment is near the town and easy walking distance, not on the other side of the N125 which is a very dangerous road to cross. All amenities are in very close walking distance. Aldi supermarket is approx 200 metres away. A new Pingo Doce has just been built close by, and Lidl next to the train station.Less than 5 minutes walk to train station. The main bus station of Tavira is also walking distance. Tavira riverside centre is a pleasant stroll via shops and bars. There is also a small children's play area to the other side of the apartment. Benamor golf course is less than 10 mins drive. The apartment has no private garage but there are plenty of off road parking bays outside and around the apartment block. Travel cot. Please feel free to ask as many questions about the apartment before booking if unsure.

About Valerie Prescott

We have lived in Tavira since 2008, so we know the area well - please feel free to ask us about places to eat and drink and visit.

Why Valerie Prescott chose Tavira region

This property benefits from being in a Portuguese residential block, quiet but close to all amenities. It is easy to walk to the station and to the town, as some apartments advertise as being Tavira when they are in fact a bit out of town. Aldi supermarket is an easy walk away, with Pingo Doce and Lidl being very close too.A great apartment without the need for a hire car.

What makes this apartment unique

The roof terrace is shared but as it's in a Portuguese block, no one uses it, and it's huge so you can follow the sun around, amazing sunrises and sunsets.

A great clean and spacious 2 bedroom flat situated in a lovely location in Tavira

  • 5 of 5

This fabulous spacious property has been a bargain for our 11 night stay . Val was a great help and very accommodating when it came to picking up the keys for our stay . The 2 bedroom flat has everything you could need for a holiday and the outside space on the roof terrace was outstanding. All the rooms are tastefully decorated.

nice location but needs some work

  • 3 of 5

We came from a round trip through Portugal and looked forward to 6 relaxing days in Tavira.

We relied on the previous reviews and now we wonder if we are talking about the same apartment.

The size is certainly good and there are no complaints about the location and parking.

We found that the flat looked a bit neglected. To start with it needed a good basic cleaning.

The electric oven and one hot plate had either been purposely disconnected or were just defective. Two much needed ceiling fans were not working (but promptly replaced by stand up fans when we notified the caretaker). The main light in the bedroom was a bare low wattage light bulb, one of the two bulbs in the half bath was missing and one outside lamp didn’t work.

We were also disappointed with the balcony because from the description we had visualized it to be more open. Being on the first floor it extended out in such a way that no privacy was afforded, allowing neighbors from all the apartments above, to the side and those on the opposite of the alley between the blocks a clear unobstructed view and hearing in on conversations.

Our view from the balcony was the block of apartments opposite, an empty lot full of weeds and trash and beyond that a building site.

There was an acceptable noise level from the nearby road but really irritating were the yapping dogs in the immediate area. Their barking often went on into the night.

Smokers on the balcony above made us often move inside with the smell following us if the door was left open.

True, the roof area was quite impressive but to make use of it would have needed us to cart table, chairs, drinks and snacks up numerous flights of steps only to bring them down again after use.

We don’t think that we are overly critical but might have spent more time in this apartment than other guests and we also know that some problems a host can’t solve like smoking neighbours, yapping dogs or an adjacent dirty lot. It is amazing though that nothing like this was mentioned in any of the other reviews.

If guests are not sensitive to noise or smokers this will still be quite a good place for a vacation once it gets a little more TLC.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time for such a thorough review, sadly I would have thought though that if the apartment was so filthy and had so many problems that these would have been brought to my attention (or the property manager's) immediately so that they could have been rectified at once. Thank you for pointing out which ceiling fans were not working, and I'm glad the replacements that were given immediately were acceptable, these have now been replaced by new ones, as is the missing bulb, and the outside light not working. The oven is and was working fine, the electric hob ring does not work, the other 3 gas rings do work, I don't think that anyone has commented on this before as I don't think many people on holiday need to use all 4 at once. Your description of the terrace is a bit confusing, that a more open space was expected but then that it was in full view of everyone. If anyone sits at the outside table, there is no possible way that anyone from the apartments above or to the side can see below as the table is underneath the balcony of the above apartment. The apartment is not on the 1st floor but is a ground floor, it's just that the apartment is on a hill so the terrace is actually higher off the ground. The apartment itself is only around 15 years old if that, and modern, and at the beginning of the year the whole apartment was repainted and I'd like to think that I keep on top of all the maintenance. I get really good reviews and repeat trade as people say that it is much nicer and larger than they were expecting, and I would hope that people would allow me or my property manager the chance to put things right straightaway rather than not say anything and then leave it for a bad review.

Another excellent Tavira apartment

  • 5 of 5

Lovely flat- huge for two of us and plenty of space for two coupled.

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Fully equipped with dishwasher and washing machine etc. Ideally situated within 25 mins walk through the old town to the town centre, 400m from a supermarket and two minutes drive to the main 125 road.

Would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to friends.

Comfortable and convenient apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a very clean and comfortable, modern apartment with lovely furnishings; also quite convenient, ten minute walk to town, easy parking, supermarket just down the street. Excellent communication with the owner and manager for easy check-in.

Everything you could need for a short or long break.

  • 5 of 5

Val the owner very kindly picked the two of us up at the airport. On the way to her apartment, Val took us on a tour of Travira, showing us the nearby supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Val even gave me the name of a local hairdresser, which I used. The apartment is, as Val states, in a Portuguese block and area. So once the other residents left for work the apartment was so peaceful if you need a rest in the afternoon after a long walk. It's just 5 mins to supermarket and 10 mins walking to the centre of the city, which we found great. It has everything you need and more, that may not be listed in the details, so if you're unsure about anything, just email Val and she will promptly reply. She even has a shopping trolley in the apartment which makes your visit to the supermarket so much easier if you don't have a car, which we didn't.

The apartment is much more spacious than the photos show and has the use of an amazing roof terrace. It is situated just 5 mins from the train station if you want to travel very cheaply to other areas. We used this for our return journey to Faro, then taxied to the airport.

We would definitely return to Val's apartment and would recommend to friends and family. Although there was only the two of us, a family would definitely feel at home here.

A very well appointed apartment in a convenient location

  • 5 of 5

This is a very conveniently located apartment just 15 minutes into the centre of Tavira and a few minutes away from supermarkets. It is extremely well appointed with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Valerie was very helpful and prompt throughout the booking process and provided useful advice about restaurants and shops. Tavira is an ideal town for a relaxing holiday: it has good restaurants, lots of history and a beautiful beach nearby. We highly recommend this property.
