Restored Farmhouse with Pool and Fabulous Views of Pastures, Woods and Mountains

Overview

Property

Updated: 14-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Sant' Angelo in Pontano, Le Marche, Italy - Private, Peaceful Location, 5 mins Drive from the Lovely Medieval Village

Casa Tieve Tara is a beautiful restored Italian farmhouse, built to exacting modern standards. The property enjoys the sun from the softly coloured dawn to prosecco sunset. Alfresco dining, for relaxing breakfasts, languid lunches and dinner, is situated alongside a luxury kitchen. 5 minutes drive from Sant' Angelo with its supermarket, bars, three restaurants, pharmacy and bank. Adriatic sandy beaches with safe bathing and fresh fish restaurants are less than an hour's drive. Mountain drives and walks, lake swimming, canoes, etc, all 50 minutes away. Macerata, the provincial capital (30 mins), hosts a famous open-air opera festival in July/August. Our location is the perfect holiday balance, whether relaxing by the pool or exploring 'Italy's best-kept secret' - Le Marche. The house is surrounded by 14 acres of rolling meadow, olive trees and gardens which you can walk around. The fields are planted with organic pasta wheat. High-profile brand outlets, eg Tods, Prada, are close for shopping.

About the Owner

We have loved Italy for many years. We decided that in the future wanted to divide our time between Italy and Sussex and began to plan our ambition to renovate a property. We looked at dozens of potential renovations in Umbria, but 'just the right thing' eluded us. A chance visit to Le Marche - and we never looked back. Tieve Tara (in Gaelic, this means a residence situated on a hillside commanding extensive views) was just right, and we purchased the property in 2005.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The following comments can be found in our Guest Book:

'We could tell from the first moment we walked into the house that it is a much loved property, full of soul. What a project, and what a beautiful location. Thank you for the opportunity to share it. You really have thought of absolutely everything. The pool has been glorious and the kids have hardly been out of it. Wonderful tomatoes from your vegetable patch, and barbecues with prosecco overlooking the Sibillinis with amazing sunsets. We have had a great adventure exploring the area and have found the local people so friendly and warm. It is very hard not to fall in love with Tieve Tara!

'Thank you for your wonderful home. We have never felt so relaxed. The children don't want to go home, in fact they want to stay for ever. You have thought of everything'

'Our week passed by way too quickly! We absolutely loved Tieve Tara and our wonderful holiday here. The views and utter tranquility are breathtaking.'

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

First thing is I must apologise but you can't have the last week in August 2016 as we're returning for our honeymoon.

Just the two of us this time (the owners will reduce the rate depending on the party size) and I cannot wait to go back with my husband!

My second time here and we stayed again in the Cabana next to the pool, as this offers us the seclusion from the rest of our family and also first dibs on the pool! The cabana has wifi so we could stream music by the pool and catch up on the news back home.

The whole house is gorgeous and well furnished as the owners stay here out of the summer season; it really is a home away from home. You can read about the construction of 'Tieve Tara' in the making of book- I love that they reused a lot of the original materials from the farmhouse to rebuild as it's sympathetic to the surroundings but feels contemporary inside. The space is well laid out from doing so - a large lounge/diner which stretches from front to back door. A snug TV room with flatscreen, Sky, DVD player (plus a selection to view), books and board games. The kitchen is well equipped with a five burner stove, oven and microwave for cooking and a large double door fridge/freezer with ice dispenser which I wish we had in our house! The house keeper will cook meals to store in the freezer for you if you arrange with the owners. We shared a vegetarian lasagne on our first night which saved us all the hassle, and we had a couple more meals sorted during our stay which was so welcome after spending a day out and about.

We hired a car to drive from the airport and get us about whilst we were here - you do need a car to get any where as it's a countryside location. It took less than an hour to get to the beaches and was well worth it as some were particularly stunning.

I could go on more about all the interesting activities to do in the area and places to see and restaurants to enjoy and vineyards to buy from... but you will have to come here and discover all that for yourselves!

Cannot wait to return!

The perfect home in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

I could harp on about how clean and well appointed Tieve Tara is. Its amazing pool and gardens, its attentive and friendly owners and the extreme beauty of the surrounds. All true and they made for a fantastic holiday. But the unusuak thing that struck me about Tieve Tara is that you clearly rent somebody's home, not somebody's investment property. It has a warmth and character about it that you'll have to experience for yourselves. I hope that, someday, we may be able to return!

To give my review some balance though, I do have one criticism. Well, it's an observation more than anything else. Coming from Australia, we are not accustomed to swimming pools without fences around them (as is a legal requirement in Australia). Tieve Tara has an amazing garden and pool, but no fence. We were that extra bit more vigilant with our toddler's whereabouts.

Having dug quite deep to say something negative, I don't want to end on that note. We had an amazing time and are grateful for you having opened up your lovely home to our family. Until next time...

Owner's Response: Thank you. We very much appreciate your review and helpful comments, and look forward to welcoming you back. We understand your concern with regard to the swimming pool not being fenced. However we clearly state in our details that the pool is not fenced. This is not a legal requirement in Italy. Our details within the house emphasise consistently the importance of being mindful, with children being supervised at all times.

heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

This was our sixth consecutive holiday at Tieve Tara, I guess that already says it all. This is really an astonishing place: a great house with more than enough space, a beautiful garden with pool, offering absolute privacy and yet close to the lovely village Sant’Angelo in Pontano.

The house itself is very nicely decorated and the owners have arranged everything to perfection and have made sure that the guests can fully enjoy their stay at Tieve Tara. The house is cleaned every Saturday, including linen change, and the garden and pool are maintained twice a week. All you have to do is sit back and relax, enjoy the beautiful and peaceful surroundings, have a swim, prepare a nice meal in the fully equipped and spacious kitchen and enjoy your meal on the terrace with a great view on how really beautiful Le Marche can be.

There is a supermarket in the near village and one can find lots a nice little villages with plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood of Tieve Tara. A day at the beach is within one hours drive, but you can also go the opposite direction and enjoy the pure and pleasantly cool water of Lago di Fiastra in the Monte Sibillini. In short, Tieve Tara is our best holiday home ever and we hope to return many, many times!

A perfect place to rest and feel at home

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming here since our two girls were babies. They're now 4 and nearly 2 and we are totally at home. Even the locals welcome us back - they're so friendly. The owners bend over backwards to have everything to our liking. The landscape is wonderfully tranquil and so peaceful after the hustle and bustle of London and Seoul.

Peace and tranquility!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at Tieve Tara. Located in a wonderfully secluded position with stunning views, the house is just outside the pretty village of Sant Angelo in Pontano.

Great care and thought has been taken to make sure everything is provided for – and comprehensive house notes help to explain everything in the house as well as the local area. It really feels like a loved home. There is a great kitchen, well equipped for anyone who loves cooking. Sant Angelo in Pontano has all the amenities you need and there are many excellent restaurants within a short drive.

We would highly recommend Tieve Tara and have booked to return in 2015 – what better endorsement!

Casa Tieve Tara

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to know where to start to write this review of Casa Tieve Tara.

We arrived tired after a long journey but as soon as we arrived at the gates of the Villa the stress lifted. Inside the house we were thrilled with everything, the house is furnished as the owners home, in exceedingly good taste. Lovely to see the family photographs on display. The kitchen is large and has everything you could want with good quality appliances. There was a exceptional welcome pack waiting for us, sufficient to see us through the first night, saving us a trip to the village to stock up on groceries giving us time to enjoy a late afternoon swim in the fabulous pool and in awe of the view. We enjoyed a glass or two of Italian wine(provided in our welcome pack) while watching the wonderful sun set. Bedrooms and bathrooms offered all the comforts needed with plenty of storage space.

The local village of Sant Angelo in Pontano is very picturesque and worth exploring, it had everything we could want. The supermarket, run by a local family was friendly and helpful as was the case everywhere we visited.

There was plenty to do in the surrounding area with lots of good advice on where to go and best places to visit including advice on good restaurants in and around the area in the information booklet provided at the Villa by the owners who were very helpful, nothing being too much trouble for them.

The gardens surrounding the villa are lovely and it is possible to have a good walk around the perimeter of the land, through the olive grove.

We enjoyed very leisurely breakfasts and lunches on the terrace where there is plenty of shade if needed. Evenings were magic, eating out by the BBQ as the sun was setting and enjoying the total peace and quiet of this stunning place.

We have booked again for 2015 and have a feeling that we may return time and time again.

Thank you to the owners for enabling us to have one of the best holidays of our lives. You have thought of everything.

Location

From the Owner

There were many things in addition to the right house, that fell into our decision to purchase a property in Le Marche. We took into consideration the fact that we love the coast, the mountains, Italian food, and the challenge of designing and creating a garden in a different country. We are keen Nordic walkers, so walks in the mountains were possible, and we have a great interest in wine cultivation and vinification (and the tasting!) and have plenty of vineyards nearby to visit and sample. High up on the list came the friendliness of the Le Marche people - they are so helpful, and welcoming in shops, restaurants etc. Sant'Angelo village turns food shopping into a relaxed occasion. A bottle of our own olive oil awaits guests, and any vegetables ready from our vegetable patch.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our 3 children are grown up now, and we have 5 grandchildren, aged from 2 to 12. They all love coming to the house every year. Tieve Tara is a great place whether a couple, or a group of family/friends to re-charge batteries far from the office, business travel, the classroom and weekly supermarket shop. The ability to relax in such peaceful surrounding is welcomed by all. In addition, with days out to beach, lake or mountain, coupled with excellent restaurants to try, or cooking/BBQ together at home, no wonder our family, friends and guests can't wait to get here! It gives us great pleasure to share everything that is Tieve Tara and the local area, not only with our family but also our guests.
