Apartment With Pool Only 5 Mins Walk From The Beach

Updated: 25-Aug-2016
Apartment in Almirida, Chania, Crete, Greek Islands - Beautiful Location Perfect For Couples And Families

The Almirida village apartments where constructed in 2008 to a fantastically high standard. They benefit from a great location, high end finish with the additional benefits of landscaped garden and children’s play area. With a shared pool and the beach just down the road, it could not be in a better place. Almirida is a small pretty seaside resort to the east of the bay of Souda. Situated about 24km or 15 miles west of Chania and is becoming more popular with package tour companies. The resort boasts an impressive crescent shaped bay, and a reasonable selection of tavernas, café bars and shops, which stretch through the village. The wooded countryside behind Almirida is some of the most beautiful in Crete and a walker’s paradise, especially in April and May when it’s not too hot and the spring flowers are on show.

About the Owner

Hello, I am a 36 year old man whom married his beautiful wife Sophie in June 2011, we have an amazing daughter (Ellie nearly 3) and are expecting a little boy in September 2015. We bought the apartment off plan in 2007 and it was finished July 2008. We love the small village of Almyrida because it is great for couples and families, there are enough bars and tavernas to keep you entertained without losing its quiete and peaceful atmosphere. It has a lovely beach just a 5 minute walk from the apartment and local shops a minute from the beach. For Sophie and I Almyrida is the perfect place to have a holiday home.

Favourite quote: honesty is the best policy and treat people how you wish to be treated.

Thanks Ian,

I have been meaning to contact you. We had a lovely time and the apartment was great, everything we needed, even down to the washing up liquid that we don't usually find in holiday flats! It was very peaceful, we assumed because early season, the weather was beautiful and the sea calm and refreshing. We would certainly recommend your apartment and Almirida.

Regards, Jeannie

Thanks Ian, we had a wonderful time!

The apartment was perfect. We will be booking again next year!

We had a fantastic time in the apartment in almyrida. Such a lovely chilled place perfect family destination and the locals were very friendly.

We had the pool to ourselves most days which was great.

The apartment caters for all your needs and the open plan layout was perfect.

Nice apartment in a good location

  • 5 of 5

Almyrida is a small town with an sandy beach and twenty or thirty good tavernas ranged along the seafront, about forty minutes’ drive from the city and airport of Chania. The apartment is five minutes’ walk inland, with a view towards the mountains. Late September / early October proved a good time to visit – nice and warm but not too hot. The town was still busy but all but one of the other apartments in the complex were unoccupied so most days we had the pool to ourselves. We have stayed in better equipped holiday lets with Owners Direct – this one has no washing machine, wi-fi or TV and you have to bring your own beach towels, but that wasn’t really a problem because everything you need is available in the town. Steve and Chris, who look after the apartment on behalf of the owners, had cleaned it scrupulously and were also happy to pick us up and drop us at the airport for a small fee. There are a number of sights within an hour of the apartment, including Lake Kournas and the Aperta archaeological site. You can get to Chania by bus but for most other trips you need a car, although we took a tourist excursion Crete’s most famous attraction, the Minoan palace of Knossos, which is two hours away near the Cretan capital of Heraklion. Overall, it would be a good holiday for families with small children or couples looking a quiet time - there are no nightclubs or large hotel complexes on that part of the coast.

Fell In Love With Almyria!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic apartment! Very well stocked kitchen and all very clean. Plenty of room for the 5 of us. The only complaint was that the sofa bed was a little on the small side for a teenage boy! Huge balcony with a wonderful clean and very safe pool and gardens. We did hire a car as we flew from Heraklion airport. (2hr drive) But not a problem for us as it was a great way to see the island. Almyria is a great place with the beach and shops 5 mins away. We ate out most nights as it was so cheap. We found a lovely bakery that you could get your bread and massive croissants for breakfast! Best bit of our holiday was taking a speed boat from the harbour to visit caves and snorkel. We saw so much. Kalives was good for a bit of shopping and has a good supermarket (not too expensive!) We visited Chania with its beautiful harbour and markets. We drove over to the south part of the island to visit Frangokastello Castle. Stunning ruins and beach. Well worth the drive over the mountains. Very impressive. Souda Bay War Cemetery is very moving with some lovely local dogs to greet you! Lastly we spent the day at Liminoupolis Water Park. It is the other side of Chania and in the back of beyond! You think you are lost, but follow the signs! Great water park and not at all busy! Hardly any Brits and more locals!! Our children of 13 and 11 yrs had a great time. Would really recommend coming to Crete. Ian was very helpful on everything- I made sure of that!!

Great location, great for families

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in Ian's apartment this summer. Almyrida is a great little compact resort, ideal for those that don't want to walk more than 5-10 minutes to get to the restaurants or the beach. The apartment itself is well maintained (no washing machine so bring your own travel wash - clothes will dry in minutes on the balcony) and the communal swimming pool in honestly one of the nicest in the resort, with lots of shallow areas for those with young children. Our two (7 and 5) also really enjoyed the addition of the swings, see-saw and slide.

We found eating out to be really cheap. The small supermarkets in the resort, however, our quite pricey, so it made sense for us to eat out every night! We also really enjoyed the walk up to Plaka in the evenings. Contrary to popular belief this is a relatively easy walk, even with young children. So many people warned us against it, or said we would be made to attempt it, but it only took 17 minutes (yes, we timed it) and that includes time to stop and take photos of the amazing views.

Restaurants in Almyrida (and Plaka) were generally of a really good quality. Service time often left much to be desired, but that is to be expected in the Med. We particularly liked Lagos Taverna (about 200 metres along the road out to Kalives/Chania, so off the main beachfront strip), and also had a superb meal at the CostAnita. For a family of 2 adult and 2 hungry children we rarely spent more than 50 euros and that included copious amounts of wine (the house wine is fine) and deserts, which are usually given complimentary. For after dinner drinks, wi-fi (!) and all round friendly service, we liked the Tsunami bar.

A couple more pointers: staff at the Almyrida Residence were really helpful and printed off (for free) our homebound airport boarding passes. They also allow you to use their pool for free, which we did on the last day when we needed to check out. We didn't hire a car during our stay but there is plenty opportunity to do that in the resort if you wish to.

Finally, Ian was nothing but helpful, prompt and professional in our dealings with him. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his apartment.

Best Holiday for Relaxation and Sunshine

  • 5 of 5

Davy and I had a fantastic 2 weeks at Almyrida Village at the beginning of June – the perfect place for complete relaxation and glorious sunshine. From the moment Richard picked us up at Chania airport and drove us back to the apartment, it couldn’t have gone any more smoothly. We arrived late and were hungry so wandered into town not really expecting anywhere would be open at 11:45pm but we were wrong. Had a lovely light meal at Erotokritos – no hurry to finish and chuck us out. With the bill comes a free dessert and raki with honey which was a exceedingly palatable.

It’s a very safe, quiet and friendly resort with just the right amount of tavernas to choose from within a 5-minute walk of the apartment. We loved going down to the (caravan) taverna at the east end of the beach to order a Mythos and watch the sun go down before wandering back along the beach road to choose a place to have an evening repast. Lovely 20 minute walk up to Plaka - we’d recommend ‘O Xarokopos’ in the square where you’ll receive a very warm welcome from Fotini. We voted the delicious home-made slow cooked lamb klefitiko our favourite dish of the fortnight – made by her mother.

A ‘do not miss’ is the gelati shop next door to the Pear Tree supermarket for the best ice creams this side of the Mason-Dixon line. Lovely Italian son and his father are there for the summer. Freshly made daily – they’re rightly proud of this product.

We were well looked after by Carol and Richard who ensured we had everything we needed. A Perfect Holiday!

Perfect Accommodation - Highly Recommend

  • 5 of 5

On arrival - we were delighted with the quality of the apartment - it was excellent, with everything you could possibly need on holiday and more - it was a real home from home experience- and I would have no hesitation to recommend this accommodation to anyone. It is located in a quite area, but within 2 minutes walking distance from the sandy beach/shops and restaurants. There is a shared garden with swimming pool, and this is very well maintained.

Amirida is an excellent choice for a relaxing or activity holiday for both couples and families of any age, with the added bonus of excellent local shops including, bakery, 3 small supermarkets, Jewellery shop, car hire and a small taxi company. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and tavernas - (Captain Jacks taverna is well worth a visit). The beaches are lovely, and especially child friendly. There is also a newly opened Spa/swimming pool with roof terrace and indoor bowling within the Almirida Residence accommodation, although we only went for a drink - non residents could use the facilities too - which looked very nice. There are pleanty of watersports available - windsurfing, canoeing, pedeloes etc.

We will be booking again for 2014 - but probably get a taxi transfer next year - as car hire is not essential
