About Elaine or Martin

Hi and welcome from Elaine and Martin.

We are two ex-business people who like to travel and have been to many countries round the world. We've enjoyed and continue to enjoy meeting people and the good things in life and Villa Maria is one of them. We came to Puglia to see the 'trulli' and if Rick Stein was telling the truth about the food and wine and he certainly was!

We want our guests to enjoy Villa Maria and Puglia as much as we do and to make your holiday a special one that you will never forget. You certainly won't be disappointed.

We don't mind going out of our way to help make people happy, because that's the kind of people we are. We even provide a taxi service for guests should they wish and any local information where possible. We are nearby should guests need any help or advice.

Elaine or Martin purchased this villa in 2007

Why Elaine or Martin chose Ostuni

The magical scenery of the sun kissed world of the trulli lived up to and surpassed expectations. The people and the food likewise. We were looking for a new venture and life and finding Villa Maria made the decision for us. The area is beautiful rural Puglia with ancient towns full of history and a delight to explore and the way of life is very relaxed. The trullo is a piece of traditional Puglia surrounded by shimmering ancient olive groves which are hypnotic to watch from our own private grandstand on the veranda. We are surrounded by genuine local people still farming the ancient olives and almonds as they have for hundreds of years.

It is one of the most beautiful villas we have ever seen and we are very proud owners.

What makes this villa unique

Whilst Villa Maria is very private and peaceful it is still only minutes away from two towns and all local amenities. Local markets selling fresh produce take place almost every day of the week. Two airports (Brindisi and Bari) are close by and two seas to pick from (Adriatic and Ionian) within 20 minutes drive. Restaurants abound specialising in local fayre and at a price to suit every pocket. Most do take away service too.

Villa Maria is a traditional trullo and extremely well equipped luxury villa with a lovely homely feel. After a lazy sunny day cooling off in the large pool and topping up that tan, what better than to spend your evening on a candlelit patio enjoying the best of fresh local produce and local wines while the sun goes down. Your own little piece of heaven!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Personal guest reviews can be seen on Ref 824601. We also keep our guest book at the villa for all to read. Below are some comments.

Family of 4 have been back 4 times, love the villa & Puglia. Love the pool.

Our 4 English guests had a relaxing time, thought the villa photos didn't do it justice, the best equipped place they had ever stayed in. They thought the villa was of outstanding quality.

Our group of 6 were absolutely amazed at the property and said they would come back as soon as possible. Could not believe their luck.

Our latest English family are world wide travellers and always use villas and have never seen one this good ever. Definitely 5 star+.

Our English guests with 7 month old baby had a fantastic time and thought it an absolute bargain for a luxurious, very well equipped villa. Enjoyed the food, towns and the local people were extremely friendly.

Our Italian guests celebrating a family 60th birthday, said 'look no further' than Villa Maria.

A Wonderful Villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa is amazing and we had a wonderful vacation. The villa has everything you need for a perfect vacation and has wonderful outside areas. The pool is huge. The villa is spotlessly clean. Elaine and Martin are prefect hosts. They are always available for advice on places to visit and on restaurants. Recommend this villa wholeheartedly.

Lovely villa and pool

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with four young adults in tow for a 12 day break in early September 2017 and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the lovely large pool and the huge parcel of land complete with fruit trees, vines and olive groves. Although the weather turned on our arrival (much to the relief of the local population, as it was a scorching summer), the cooler temperatures and wind did not deter us.

The villa is, as observed by previous reviewers, well laid out and equipped and makes for a lovely holiday home from home. Elaine and Martin are excellent hosts, on hand to help with queries, great restaurant tips and extra wine and olive oil.

One of the best days we enjoyed started with a fabulous cookery course on site led by the wonderful Enrica and her interpreter Jenny, followed by a winery tour and tasting at I Pástini about 35 minutes' drive away, so worth while.

You will love this place and this part of Puglia!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. So pleased you all enjoyed your stay. We do try to help guests feel at home and offer suggestions as and when we can. Thank you also for the information on yet another wonderful attraction, the organic vineyard. We are also pleased you enjoyed the service of an in house chef and a separate cookery lesson. More to add to our folder. It has indeed been a scorching summer and after that little glitch of a couple of days the temperature has gone way back up. As fellow lovers of Puglia, we hope you come and stay again. Best wishes, Elaine and Martin

Super Villa in Great Location and Top Owners...

  • 5 of 5

...leads to a fantastic holiday. This was our first visit to Puglia and we could not have picked a better Villa or location. The Villa is very spacious and well equipped, set in extensive secluded grounds with many different areas to soak up the sun, sit and read or just have a beer watching the birds and geckos. We loved the pool which is very clean and a great size for just bobbing about in or playing games. The two nearest towns are just 5 or 10 minutes away, with many places to explore and a good variety of restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of child friendly beaches all within 20 minutes or so. Martin and Elaine, the owners, bring something special to the villa. Top people, always at hand if needed for advice and information, and great company. They can recommend restaurants, things to see and do and are more than happy to book for you if, like us, your Italian is somewhat below par. In fact, looking through previous reviews a common theme is how welcoming and helpful they are. Some would say they must be doing something right. We would say they are doing everything right. Looking forward to returning.

Beautiful property and lovely central location

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely villa in a fantastic setting, with great owners living only a stones throw away. We spent a great two weeks exploring the local area, always coming back early afternoon for a dip in the pool which was lovely and clean. The villa is well appointed with everything you could hope for, including wine and olive oil which can be purchased direct from Elaine and Martin.

There is loads to do locally, or you can travel a bit further but to be honest we were so happy to relax in the villa and its beautiful gardens we didn't do as much touring as we thought. We will certainly be returning - thank you Elaine and Martin for being great owners - there when needed, but not intrusive. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Stunning villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa was absolutely stunning, set in extensive gardens in peaceful countryside. The pool was a great size and there were lots of lovely spots to catch the sun and just relax. The kids loved the pool and gardens- there was so much space to play and run around outside. It was also great to have plenty of shaded areas to sit outside and for the kids to play when we wanted a break from the heat. The villa itself was spotless and very spacious. We were a group of four adults, two kids and a baby and we had lots of room. The kitchen was huge and very well equipped. The location of the villa was perfect- while it was in a rural setting it was an easy 10 min drive to surrounding towns with amazing, good value restaurants. Beaches were also an easy drive away. What makes the villa really special is the warmth of the welcome given by the owners, Elaine and Martin. They were extremely helpful without ever being intrusive and it was as much a pleasure to meet them as it was to stay in their lovely villa.

Arrived worn out and exhausted after a very stressful few months and left two weeks later fully refreshed and raring to go. Villa Maria is that sort of place. Lovely home with all the facilities you could wish for including a large pool and set in extensive, secluded, well-kept grounds off the beaten track for privacy and peace and quiet but close enough to all the amenities, restaurants, beaches, markets to make it practical.

This is only half the story though, the Villa owners who live next door are never obtrusive but available with helpful friendly advice and assistance with bookings if needed and always with a smile and really can’t do enough to make your stay as memorable as possible.

This is a magical place located in a very friendly area of Italy, run by a great team and is suitable for a couple or families. I simply cannot imagine anyone booking here could be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. Villa Maria really is that peaceful. The garden is really appreciated for its size and all the shrubs and fruit trees and the privacy it provides. The view from the veranda looks down the majority of the garden and is very restful. The inside of the villa is also very well equipped and comfortable with plenty of space to relax and have quiet time or family fun or cook a gourmet meal with all the delicious local produce available. We do take great pride in the villa and try to be as helpful as we can to make our guests stay as enjoyable as possible. We are available if you need us. We get to meet some lovely people and that makes it worthwhile when they leave feeling refreshed and happy.
