The entrance to the recently renovated and newly furnished 135 m2 old stone Winery gives into a long open plan lounge with to the left, soft seating facing a T.V. and a pine staircase rising to the Mezzanine Bedroom above. To the right is the Dining area leading via a corridor to the Kitchen and downstairs W.C.
The spacious Kitchen has full width sliding doors giving onto the southern terrace and a wooden spiral staircase leading to the 2nd bedroom. The modern Kitchen has a washing machine, electric cooker, 4 ceramic hobs, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, toaster, coffee machine, pressure cooker, iron, ironing board and drying rack.
The Sea Mezzanine bedroom: Double bed and 2 single beds with bedside tables, chairs, Large cupboard, connects to The Cosy Reading Room and to the Shower Room with wash basin and toilet.
The Marais Bedroom: Double bed and 2 single beds with bedside tables, chairs, chest of drawers and cupboard. En suite Shower Room with wash basin and toilet.

Enjoy the peaceful shaded tracks and waterways of the MARAIS POITEVIN REGIONAL PARK by hiring cycles or a rowing boat in COULON or try horse riding in the next village of La GARETTE.
FOR KEEN WALKERS take a picnic and simply follow the splendid tree lined gravel pathways of the MARATHON circuit, which meander along the charming waterways and marshes. Take a rest along the way at one of the cafes for a snack, cool beer, local wines or ice cream.
EXCELLENT DAY OUT ATTRACTIONS within an hour's drive abound like the Amazingly Modern and Interactive FUTUROSCOPE Park near Poitiers or the WORLD' S BEST THEME PARK of the PUY DU FOU where live historical scenes are re-inacted every day.
LA ROCHELLE and CLOSE BY SANDY BEACHES are only 45 mins drive away. STAFFORDSHIRE AND YORKSHIRE was our home for many years. After running a creative Design Business for 20 years near BEVERLEY we were ready for a new challenge in France. MARYLYN A JERSEY GIRL with French grandparents and TONY EDUCATED IN FRANCE were eager to retrace their roots. We thoroughly enjoy welcoming guests and sharing our home with them. Our visitors love theTRANQUILITY OF THE VENISE VERTE and exploring the maze of waterways by punt or bike. There is the nearby FRESHNESS of the coast and the Amazing parks of Futuroscope or Le Puy du Fou not so very far away.
IN SPRING we love the chorus of the frogs, the arrival of the HOOPOES and the acrobatics of the RED QUIRRELS. The greening of the poplars lining the waterways dotted with pretty coloured stone cottages under bright blue skies.
IN AUTUMN we visit the Wine fairs and pick blackberries under the glorious colours of the hedgeways and look forward to the roasted chestnuts and VIN CHAUD served at the many Christmas markets.

FINDING FRANCE'S PARADISE AND BEST KEPT SECRET took an element of luck. There were too many nice regions and beautiful places to choose from. THE AREA HAD TO BE TOURISTIC but in a gentle and natural way with summers that were not too hot.
We wanted a house of character with the POTENTIAL FOR B&B AND GITES within walking distance of a LIVELY AND PICTURESQUE VILLAGE, socially active with welcoming people.
The closeness to a number of airports, a good railway station and a motorway network was important to ensure that out visitors, family and friends come at any time without difficulty or travelling too far.
As one of our very outspoken grandsons said " NANNY WE WILL COME TO SEE YOU IF YOU LIVE BY THE SEA AND HAVE A SWIMMING POOL ”
We found both and much more to feel very happy ever since we settled in COULON.
What makes this cottage unique
IN SUMMER, market stalls overflow with delicious orange fleshed Charentais melons, from which Marylyn makes an excellent home-made jam.
The region has many SMALL VINEYARDS producing interesting, fresh wines which go so well with local goats’ cheeses and Marylyn;s version of the Farci Poitevin, the TASTY VEGETABLE PATE of the Marais.
WE HAVE MADE LOTS OF FRIENDS at various village events - farmers, potters, artists, writers, the Mayor naturally and various councillors.
ON OUR SUNDAY WALK TO THE MARKET held around the pretty 12th century church, we often meet up and arrange an impromptu aperitif or enjoy a coffee or Pineau des Charentes at the café and read the Sunday papers.
Every AUTUMN we get together with a group of gite owners to drive to the presses of a nearby orchard for a chat and to bottle a year's supply of 100 % pure golden apple juice.

LA ROCHELLE, the magnificent Atlantic Coast and the sandy beaches of CHATELAILLON PLAGE are 45 mins away by car. There are also WILD and NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS with little fishing cabins on stilts and surfing coves in the estuary of AIGUILLON BAY.
SEA FOOD RESTAURANTS abound In the old port of LA ROCHELLE where the can linger with a cool drink at the many cafe terraces and in the evening watch artists & street entertainment .
Nearby the ILE DE RE famous for its chic film stars Holiday homes, long promenades and well groomed beaches will offer you another magical experience.
The unspoilt ILE d'Oleron near ROCHEFORT has its own separate natural charm and the colourfully painted artist shacks merit a visit.

All bookings are subject to a 30% deposit payable in Sterling by bank transfer to a U.K Bank, at the time of reservation.
A reservation becomes effective when the tenant has returned a signed copy of the agreement and the advance payment has been paid by the date specified.The balance is to be paid 8 weeks before arrival as detailed in the agreement, together with a refundable deposit of 30% for damages. This will be refunded 2 weeks after the tenants departure, less any deductions for damages.
Change over day is Saturday with ARRIVALS at 5 PM and DEPARTURES on Saturday before 10AM to allow time for cleaning and preparing the 2 gites.
30% with booking Balance due 8 weeks before start of rental. Payments by Bank transfer to UK bank account. £500 security deposit by cheque, not encashed unless damage to property.

- Notes on accommodation: HIRE of BED LINEN, BATHROOM and KITCHEN TOWELS is included in the accommodation price of the Gites and B&B. SWIMMING POOL or BEACH TOWELS are not provided. NO SMOKING is allowed in the Gites and B&B or in the grounds of the rented premises. ANIMALS and BARBECUES are not allowed in the Gites and B&B or in the grounds of the rented premises. Outside: There is adequate private parking within the gated and enclosed walled grounds. Table tennis and Boules equipment is available. There are plenty of green spaces where children can play in the garden. The region of POITOU CHARENTE claims to be the 2nd sunniest area of France after the Mediterranean counties, temperatures can reach 20C in spring and 30C in summer. The terraces are well placed close to the gites for breakfast, dining and relaxing outside on sunny days and warm evenings. The large SWIMMING POOL 12m x 6m, non heated-non covered, is refreshing and can be used by both gites between 10 AM and 12 NOON and between 2 PM to 6 PM, to allow time for daily maintenance and cleaning. Although the pool has an approved immersion alarm, ALL CHILDREN particularly the very young ones MUST BE ACCOMPANIED AT ALL TIMES BY AN ADULT when in or around the swimming pool. It is the TENANTS' RESPONSABILITY to supervise their children in or around the swimming pool and the grounds
