MARYLYN A JERSEY GIRL with French grandparents and TONY EDUCATED IN FRANCE were eager to retrace their roots. We thoroughly enjoy welcoming guests and sharing our home with them. Our visitors love theTRANQUILITY OF THE VENISE VERTE and exploring the maze of waterways by punt or bike. There is the nearby FRESHNESS of the coast and the Amazing parks of Futuroscope or Le Puy du Fou not so very far away.
IN SPRING we love the chorus of the frogs, the arrival of the HOOPOES and the acrobatics of the RED QUIRRELS. The greening of the poplars lining the waterways dotted with pretty coloured stone cottages under bright blue skies.
IN AUTUMN we visit the Wine fairs and pick blackberries under the glorious colours of the hedgeways and look forward to the roasted chestnuts and VIN CHAUD served at the many Christmas markets.

FINDING FRANCE'S PARADISE AND BEST KEPT SECRET took an element of luck. There were too many nice regions and beautiful places to choose from. THE AREA HAD TO BE TOURISTIC but in a gentle and natural way with summers that were not too hot.
We wanted a house of character with the POTENTIAL FOR B&B AND GITES within walking distance of a LIVELY AND PICTURESQUE VILLAGE, socially active with welcoming people.
The closeness to a number of airports, a good railway station and a motorway network was important to ensure that out visitors, family and friends come at any time without difficulty or travelling too far.
As one of our very outspoken grandsons said " NANNY WE WILL COME TO SEE YOU IF YOU LIVE BY THE SEA AND HAVE A SWIMMING POOL ”
We found both and much more to feel very happy ever since we settled in COULON.
IN SUMMER, market stalls overflow with delicious orange fleshed Charentais melons, from which Marylyn makes an excellent home-made jam.
The region has many SMALL VINEYARDS producing interesting, fresh wines which go so well with local goats’ cheeses and Marylyn;s version of the Farci Poitevin, the TASTY VEGETABLE PATE of the Marais.
WE HAVE MADE LOTS OF FRIENDS at various village events - farmers, potters, artists, writers, the Mayor naturally and various councillors.
ON OUR SUNDAY WALK TO THE MARKET held around the pretty 12th century church, we often meet up and arrange an impromptu aperitif or enjoy a coffee or Pineau des Charentes at the café and read the Sunday papers.
Every AUTUMN we get together with a group of gite owners to drive to the presses of a nearby orchard for a chat and to bottle a year's supply of 100 % pure golden apple juice.

A reservation becomes effective when the tenant has returned a signed copy of the agreement and the advance payment has been paid by the date specified.The balance is to be paid 8 weeks before arrival as detailed in the agreement, together with a refundable deposit of 30% for damages. This will be refunded 2 weeks after the tenants departure, less any deductions for damages.
Change over day is Saturday with ARRIVALS at 5 PM and DEPARTURES on Saturday before 10AM to allow time for cleaning and preparing the 2 gites.
