Romantic 15th Century Hideaway W/ Pool And Tennis Court in The Heart Of Tuscany

Overview

Property

Updated: 24-Oct-2016
Cottage in Sogna, Nr. Siena / Arezzo / Florence, Tuscany - Perfect Location to Celebrate A Romantic Honeymoon Or Special Occasion

Sogna Amore is our romantic one bedroom stone built hideaway located high up in the Tuscan Hills. It is ideal for honeymooners and romantics of all ages. A perfect oasis of peace and tranquillity with the additional benefit of being less than an hour’s drive from all the main cultural centres of Tuscany. This "love nest", originally built in the 15th Century, is beautifully furnished and decorated with an emphasis on design, comfort and luxury. Sogna Amore has been authentically restored to reveal its original chestnut beams, terra-cotta tile ceilings and floors, pietra serena stone kitchen sink and worktops, and luminous calce plaster wall finishes. A special feature in the bedroom is the exposed ancient stone boulder forming the rear wall. This feature has been painstakingly uncovered and is prominently displayed behind plate glass evoking a feeling of drama and contemporary style. The house is furnished in a mix of modern and antique furnishings and artwork.

Entirely private, the 11th century medieval hamlet of Sogna consists of 12 unique homes with a shared pool and tennis court. Perched high atop a hillside, surrounded by terraces with over 700 olive trees, numerous fruit trees and ancient woodlands, sits this stunning medieval borgo. The village itself is beautifully restored maintaining all of it's original features, with a church and bell tower, a village green, the remains of the original fortressed walls and cobbled lanes that lead through the village between the stone houses. With panoramic views of the Valdambra, Sogna offers our guests the chance to relax, sunbathe, swim in the oasis shaped pool, play a game of tennis, eat al fresco under the private jasmine covered pergola or do nothing at all! In season, figs, apricots, plums and grapes grow throughout the borgo and there are few pleasures greater than eating a freshly picked, sun warmed fruit with your morning coffee.

If you can tear yourself away from the beauty of our medieval borgo, Sogna makes a perfect base for exploring Tuscany. It is just a 30 minute drive to the centres of Siena and Arezzo and an hours drive to Florence. The classic Tuscan hill towns of Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, are all within a short drive and Chianti's famous villages of Castellina, Greve, Gaiole, Radda are just on our doorstep. Closer to home, you can take a leisurely stroll to Rapale, the next village in the chain of hilltop borgos or discover the beauty of the Valdarno and particularly the Valdambra where the magical medieval towns of Badia a Ruoti, Cennia, Ambra and Bucine, cling to their hilltop perches evoking a sense of timelessness. When you tire of the natural and historic beauty of Tuscany and find yourself in need of a little "retail therapy"; a quick 25 minute drive will take you to the anonymous grey warehouse called Space, which is the outlet store for Prada, Jill Sander, Mui Mui, and Helmut Lang. A further 15 minute drive brings you to "The Mall", a huge complex of outlet shops where you can find labels such as Alexander McQueen, Agnona, AJ Armani, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Emanuel Ungaro, Ermenegildo Zenga, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hogan, I Pinco Pallino, La Perla, Loro Piana, Marni, Pucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney, Tod’s, Valentino, Yohji Yamamoto and Yves St. Laurent. There is also a Miss Sixty and Diesel outlet at The Mall as well as a stylish café that serves salads, sandwiches and fantastic coffee. Down the road from The Mall you will find the Fendi, Celine, Loewe and the Dolce and Gabbanna outlet shops.

We have had two wonderful, relaxing weeks here in Sogna. It has been the perfect honeymoon, and thanks for the bubbly on arrival, it was much appreciated after a long, hot journey!!!

Sogna has proved to be a great base to visit, no end of amazing places from Firenze to the beautiful hill top towns (our favourite were definitely Cortona and S. Gimignano).

The pool has been great on really hot days and is really relaxed place to chill out after busy days sightseeing.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Tuscany and it certainly won’t be our last.

Thanks

Stunning, special and sure to come again!

  • 5 of 5

Returning for our second visit to Sogna, we were far from disappointed, it was everything and more that we remembered of our wonderful honeymoon in 2010.

Minda and James are delightful to talk with about days out and share their experiences of the wonders of Tuscany.

The house is beautiful and filled with gorgeous tastefully chosen furniture. We had a slight problem with sofa but nothing was to much trouble, Laura the house manager was fantastic and could not have been more helpful and the problem was sorted within 10mins, the cleaners mid stay are superb aswell and in no way distrupt your holiday.

The setting is picturesque and a great Tuscan hideaway. Pool is stunning and very warm.

We will be sure to return to Sogna for another special holiday. Thank you Minda and James for sharing your little bit of paradise with us.

Tuscany at its best !!!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about the wonders of Sogna and Sogna Amore ! My husband and I spent a week there the last week of June and had the best time. My mom is from the Tuscan area, so over the years, I have been to Tuscany many times. Sogna Amore is one of the jewels of the Tiscan area. The house itself is perfect for a week away from the fast paced life we all lead. Whether you are newlyweds or married for ages, Sogna Amore is the place to go to recharge and experience the beauties Tuscany has to offer. Whether you want to just relax and unwind or sightsee Sogna Amore offers this to you. Siena is about 20-30 minutes away and very easy to get to. Sogna itself offers so much. There are tennis courts and a beautiful pool both available to renters. One of the best days we had was going to the pool during the day and then making dinner in our own little kitchen and sitting in the pergola drinking Tuscan wine and eating pasta( made with local ingredients). Minda has done a wonderful job listing great. Local restaurants and day trips which are easy to get to and close. One day we went to Arrezzo which is about an hour away. It was fantastic and we got back to Sogna about 9 PM while it was still light . We will definitely be returning guests at Sogna Amore !!!!!

A Heavenly Hideaway in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Whatever your reasons for a holiday Sogna Amore will not disappoint you in any way. It is immediately stylish, welcoming, well equipped and comfortable. A great base for visiting the outstanding sites of Tuscany. Florence, Siena, Arezzo, San Giminiano, Cortona, and Volterra are all within a delightful and easy drive.

Alternatively the Borgo itself is such a beautiful place to relax by the pool, read, walk, play tennis in peace and tranquility. With great restaurants nearby and in the night stars and fireflies will keep you company.

Thank you so much for sharing the magical delights of your very personal piece of heaven.

Sogna Amore was as Romantic as promised. Tuscany is so very beautiful and the Cottage framed this beauty positioned way up in the hills passed a small village. The owners promised and delivered a stunning property offering tranquillity with a twist of antique and modern furnishings which has been thoughtfully designed.

We had everything we needed with exceptional attention to detail giving us the luxury we sought. The service we received was excellent and communication through out the process made very easy. I would strongly recommend this property as an ideal getaway a real romantic treat. The location excellent we travelled to Florence and Sienna easily its very central with exquisite local restaurants.

4 wheel drive only!

  • 4 of 5

Sogna is indeed the perfect location for those in search of solitude and tranquility. The hamlet of houses is accessed by a gravel track that is long, windy and somewhat pitted. So, if this is your destination be advised to get a cheap rental car. The one we were given was brand new and we spent the week anxious about scrapes and stone damage from the approach road. Although you do get used to it, it is not for the faint hearted. That said, Sogna is very tranquil and the pool is absolutely gorgeous with a lovely breeze across the hills. Initially the dark interior feels a bit like a cave but you quickly come to realise that the lack of natural light and thick stone walls provide a welcome coolness to the Italian heat. We have had a lovely week but feel the access arrangements should be more clearly stated. Advice on eating out was excellent and Minda was very helpful. Encountering wild boar on late journeys home on the windy roads was a real treat. We had to eat this local delicacy to complete the experience! Check out the Godfather dvd set- feels very appropriate! Wi fi was good too.By the end of the week I felt like a seasoned raleigh driver after climbing all the mountain passes. Driving in England will seem tame in comparison. Cath and Gary Bolton

Owner's Response: Hi Cath and Gary, Thank you for your very kind words and I am thrilled to learn that you had a lovely holiday at Sogna Amore. It sounds like you truly embraced the spirit of Sogna; from the Strada Bianchi (white roads), to the solitude and tranquility of this ancient borgo, to the 15th century “natural cooling system” of thick walls and small windows, and the local wildlife, both on the road and on the plate! You really did have a true Tuscan experience! While the white road seemed daunting at first encounter, it sounds as if you rose to the challenge like an expert and actually enjoyed it! By the way, in the 12 years since we have had a house at Sogna, we have never needed to rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle. In the future I will highlight the fact that Sogna is located inside a ancient woodland and that the last bit of the journey to the borgo is on a unpaved road. We do explain this on our website and in the detailed driving instructions that are given to our guests before they arrive but appreciate that we may have to emphasis this point. Thanking you again for your very kind words All the best Minda
