Beautifully Restored Eighteenth Century Provencal Village Farmhouse

The Mas du Marechal is situated right in the old centre of the village and has been fully and sympathetically restored, the emphasis having been on keeping the original features of the house intact while also providing you with every comfort and luxury possible. The thick stone walls, shutters, ceiling insulation, ceiling fans and a reverse air-conditioning system in one wing of the house help to keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. As such, the house can be rented throughout the year. There is a downstairs bedroom suite and two upstairs wings each comprising of two bedrooms and two bathrooms with additional sitting or study area and each wing is reached by a dedicated staircase. This thoughtful layout of the house ensures privacy and even when full the house never feels crowded. The house has been beautifully decorated, is fully and generously equipped and has 5 double bedrooms with crisp percale bedding. Each bedroom is paired with a fresh new bathroom. The house sleeps 10 people comfortably. Small children or babies can additionally be accommodated, totaling a maximum of 14 guests.
The wonderful open plan kitchen is fully equipped with everything you may need to please a gourmet cook. The central island is a cook’s dream and the extra seating around the island and in the kitchen area allows for group cooking sessions and is definitely the gathering spot while the fresh Provencal produce is turned into gourmet meals.
A double volume large airy living area with original exposed beams opens onto the garden and shaded terrace, which overlooks the sparkling pool. This house is ideal for large family groups or a group of friends, and guests will enjoy lounging by the pool or enjoying meals on the shaded terrace.
The Mas du Marechal is situated in the village of Vers Pont du Gard which is in the heart of the Cotes du Rhone wine region. It is also a stone’s throw away from the legionary Pont du Gard, the almost 2000 year old Roman Aqueduct. This is a World Heritage site and is the 3rd most visited site in France after Paris and Mont St. Michel in Brittany. It is within easy access of the A9 autoroute, making Nimes, Arles, Lyon, Marseille, Nice and the Camargue Coast easy to reach. Uzes, Avignon, St Remy de Provence, Les Baux, Gordes and Chateauneuf du Pape wine region are just short drives away.
This is a lively and authentic working village where you will see the winemakers and fresh produce growers going about their business. The fantastic bakery and Tabac/Presse/Epicerie (newsagent and mini supermarket) will provide you with all you need on a daily basis. The lively gathering spot of La Grange wine bar is also great for coffee, cakes, brunches and light suppers, and offers musical evenings on Thursdays and Saturdays There is a bar restaurant that serves simple regional food daily, La Petite Gare restaurant is housed in the old station house with a menu that changes weekly. The village pre-primary and primary school means that the usual amenities of Pharmacy, Doctors Rooms, Dentist, Physiotherapist, hairdresser, small shops, beauty salons and a post office are right there. There is a visiting pizza van every Sunday evening and a Seafood van every Sunday morning. There are also a number of good restaurants in the other villages close by.
Catering and cooking lessons, wine tastings, and musical evenings at the house can be arranged. A fresh produce farmers market takes place on the square three times a week including a fish supplier, charcuterie, cheese, wines, locally made nougat and honey. You can also buy wine directly from the kitchen door of the local vineyards. Food and wine are the main attractions of the area and sublime food markets abound, notably in Uzes, which is known as the First Duchy of France. The Saturday morning market in Uzes, only minutes away, should not be missed.
Bicycles can be rented nearby (including electric bikes) and the surrounding vineyards provide enjoyable and easy rides through flat terrain. Special guided cycling tours can also be booked. There is a new cyclists- only track joining the village to nearby villages and up to Uzes through beautiful countryside which offers safe cycling for all ages. Kayaking is another possible pastime to be enjoyed - the Gardon river meanders right underneath the Pont du Gard aqueduct. Cooling down on hot summer days by swimming in the river from a small private beach is very popular too.
Wonderful hiking routes are all around. Ancient villages dot the gentle rolling hills and are perfect for exploring. the beautiful countryside and immersing yourself in the culturally rich history of this area.

Great stay
We had a great stay at Mas Marechal, the property is big and every room has their own bathroom. We all felt very independent while we all met for breakfast and diner around the massive table outside. The swimming pool is relatively small for lengths but good for the kids to play and adults to refresh. The temperature was perfect! We also really appreciated the warm welcome by Rachel and her availability during our stay.

Magnificent stay in a house with unique ambiance
The house is a jewel in terms of architecture and interior design. It has a great sitting area inside and a large dinner table outside by the swimming pool. The bedrooms are perfectly comfortable. The kitchen has full equipment and is spacious enough to enjoy some quality time while cooking. Overall, the house was a perfect location for a reunion among friends. We enjoyed the village of Vers itself with its nice wine bard La Grange. It is a short drive to some of the most beautiful parts of Provence and Lanquedoc. The area outside was nice for walks and bicycle rides. Vivenne, the owner, was extremely helpful and responsive in the run-up and during our stay. The only point to keep in mind is that the house is in the centre of the village and activity does start early the morning, also doing the holiday period. Overall, we were greatly impressed with the house and enjoyed tremendously our stay there.

Fantastic stay
We have just returned from a fabulous week at Mas du Marechal. For us it was a perfect house for 2 families to share, with children from 4 months to 17 years everyone had enough space with some to spare! The kitchen is really well stocked, far more than we have experienced at other house rentals. We loved the interior design of the property and Vivienne has really transformed the property with her thoughtful and sympathetic refurbishment. The children had great fun in the pool and we spent most of our time outdoors in the compact but wonderful garden. The location of the house is second to none and we were only a short drive from major tourist attractions and towns. We particularly loved Uzes and also river swimming nearby. Vers Pont du Gard is a lovely little town, we visited the bakery every day and enjoyed a really loved evening at La Grange. We had a wonderful stay at Mas du Marechal, both Vivienne and Madeleine were extremely hospitable and helpful and we're all looking forward to returning for our next summer holiday.

Absolutely beautiful house
We had the most amazing time at this beautiful house. We spent a week with 8 of us in total and could not have asked for a more beautiful place to spend our holidays. The house was equipped with everything we needed, the kitchen was beautiful and we loved how it was stocked with oils/vinegars/ herbs etc which we didn’t have to worry about buying. The short walk round to the boulangerie in the morning and the tapas bar in the evenings was so convenient. We couldn’t recommend the area and the house highly enough.

Ladies week at Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
What a delightful home away from home! Beautifully appointed and very comfortable home in a lovely small town in the French countryside. Pure bliss! Comfort, style and beauty. With the centre of town around the corner, this is your perfect country retreat. Inviting garden with outside area to relax with a glass of wine under the trees. Peace and quiet all around. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

We live in South Africa, but have always loved France and wanted a piece of it. We came to the area by chance, loved it and knew we wanted to be in the area. After looking at more than 200 houses, throughout France, we knew this house had potential. The house was restored and furnished, and is a home from home for the family and for our guests.

Why they chose this property

This property is on the border of Provence, a wine growing valley, situated near Uzes which is the last Duchy of France. We fell in love with Uzes and wanted something nearby. The house is only a stone's throw away from the Pont du Gard which is a World Heritage Site. We love the area as there is so much to see and do.

What makes this property unique

The very well appointed house has a gourmet kitchen and lives easily and can accommodate large family groups and friends.
A chef who will cook at the house can be arranged. She will also cook for celebratory special occasions .
