Casaccia is a beautiful medieval house on a hilltop with a large private pool and gardens offering incredible views. Fully, refurbished, the villa offers 4 large bedrooms (sleeping up to 10), and 3 bathrooms, including a delightful cottage in the garden with its own bedroom, living space and shower room. Located on the very border of Tuscany and Umbria, the villa is near to the ancient city of Cortona and provides easy access to many wonderful hill towns, including Perugia, Assisi, Montepulciano, Arezzo and Siena. Casaccia forms part of a tiny hamlet. With its commanding position, it has stunning views over green hills and verdant valleys. As well as the large 12 x 6m pool, the garden offers patios, pergola and hammock all set among shrubs and lawns. This quiet retreat is full of character and charm with modern conveniences, ideal for large groups and families. There are shops and lots of restaurants nearby plus tennis, golf, cycling, walking and water sports on Lake Trasimeno.

Why Chris & Rachel Dickinson chose Cortona area

We have holidayed in Tuscany and Umbria over many years and finally took the plunge and bought Casaccia in 2007, doing it up and adding the pool in 2008. It is our dream house and we're happy to share it with you. Perched on the top of a hill, the location is amazing with a view to die for, while the villa itself is utterly charming. It is also bang in the middle of the wonderful region of Tuscany and Umbria, with access to so many amazing old towns and cities. We hope you can enjoy Casaccia and the surrounding area as much as we do.

Notes on accommodation: The house is light and airy, with full insulation built into the roof of the main house to make the rooms feel cool even in the heat of the day. All the bedrooms are fitted with mosquito nets and shutters to make night-times comfortable and cool. In addition, room fans are available. There is central heating (for an additional cost), double glazing and constant hot water. A cot and high chair are provided. Outside: Beautiful 12 x 6m private pool with paved surround offering stunning views across the hills of Tuscany and Umbria, with direct line of sight to the historic hilltop village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina. The grounds totalling 2,000sq.metres also offer more secluded areas, including a hammock for relaxing in the shade of the old mulberry tree orchard. Sun loungers and deck chairs for 10 people, plus umbrellas make the pool area an ideal place to spend the day. A shady patio area in front of the house has a table and chairs that is ideal for an alfresco breakfast. The 4.5 x 3.5m pergola attached to the side of the cottage offers magnificent views on two sides, so you can watch the sunrise and set in comfort, with a selection of wicker chairs and a large table for dining. Utility Room: Ground floor store-rooms housing BBQ and garden furniture. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and bedlinen included (please bring your own pool towels). House cleaned and linen changed once a week. Other: Cottage with double bed and single on mezzanine floor, plus spacious living space with double sofa bed and computer point with high-speed internet access and Wi-Fi. Garden completely fenced for children's safety. Attractive pergola for eating alfresco.

An extraordinary place of tranquil beauty.

We enjoyed a week long stay in San Leo Bastia with our two children (seven and two). The house has an incredible calm about it and though the initial sense of remove from civilisation was initially something of a surprise, we quickly found ourselves in a very special place that offered an incredible vista and tranquil calm. We immediately missed the house after leaving and realised what a special silence it has and what a wonderful effect that had on all of us. The house is very well appointed, and the facilities are in excellent condition. The pool is also exceptional, the natural unchlorinated water a joy to swim in, and very well sized and with a spectacular view at the end of the garden. This is the sort of house where you don't actually need to go anywhere else (though if you do decide day trips are in order head to Gubbio for one the most special towns with a remarkable history).
