We had a fabulous time in Montefrio.Your villa is great - it must have the best view in the whole of Montefrio, is just ideally placed for both the town - being a short stroll in to the bars/cafes, for the region. We loved the atmosphere of Priego de Cordoba, Alcala la Real was great and we had amazing days out in Granada. Your villa made a perfect base to explore all of this, I can't think of anyway it could have been any better.

A View to Kill
We can only endorse and amplify previous comments, having spent a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing week in this very well appointed town house. For us with 3 teenage children, the outdoor space and pool were a godsend, with areas of shade throughout the day and unrestricted sunshine for the sun lovers from dawn till dusk. Walking back from the local supermarkets certainly justifies the first gin and tonic of the day, and the night time views from the balcony always vindicated opening a second bottle of wine. The Alhambra Palace and Montefrio Castillo are without doubt must visits, and yes, driving through the village is not for the faint hearted. Don't miss the bread van, we didn't realuse there are so many different versions of pain aux chocolate, or "pain by chocolate" as they became known. We would certainly recommend this accommodation and the village of Montefrio. The Thackers
Lovely village house with amazing views
I'm giving this property 4 stars because of the surrounding roads which were extremely challenging to drive. The house itself was spotless & very well equipped. The wifi worked perfectly but we couldn't figure out the TV. This wasn't a problem as we were in Montefrio for a family wedding so were well occupied. The swimming pool & patio area is a great bonus. All in all the house is a home from home with an owner who responds to any query very quickly. Parking is not a problem- we got parking on the street opposite the property and there is a garage if needed. Just be warned that the streets of Montefrio are incredibly steep & narrow. Part of it's charm but hire the smallest car you can!!
Right in the middle of all the action
Well equipped property, right in the middle of the lovely town of Montefrio. Everything was as described on the website, with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Claire and Simon, who look after the villa were very helpful, when needed.
Because the villa is in residential area, there is obviously "residential noises" eg dogs barking and children playing during the day, but peaceful on a night time!
If you are looking for a villa so you can "park" your car and walk to the bars, supermarkets etc then this is ideal, but be prepared for very steep hills, if you aren't fit before your holidays you will be after!!!
Comfortable Townhouse, Nicely Appointed
Comfortable townhouse, nicely appointed, very clean and well equipped. Lovely little pool. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the balcony in the evenings, having drinks overlooking the church/castle on the hill. Follow the owner's directions to the house carefully as this is definitely the easiest route into the hilly town. Having said that, the last couple of hundred yards up to the house are incredibly steep and not for faint hearted drivers or those whose hire car has been upgraded to a larger model. We opted to leave our car lower down in town - it was perfectly safe there and proved not to be a problem. We concur with previous reviewers in recommending visiting to the church/castle on the hill and also the fort at Alcala Al Real. Very friendly locals and food/drink were all great value. A brilliant 4 night start to our Spanish adventure! Booking process was easy with the owner responding promptly to our emails.
A great place for a relaxing holiday
The house suited our family of 4 perfectly. Montefrio is a lovely, if very hilly town surrounded by beautiful olive smothered hills. We spent relaxing days by the pool, at the municipal pool in town and at the lake in Iznajar. Don't miss the Alhambra in Ganada. Overall a lovely holiday with friendly locals.
Lovely comfortable house in picturesque village
We had a lovely relaxing week in Montefrio. The owners were very helpful answering questions before our stay, and provided good directions from Malaga. The house was immaculate, and very well equipped, especially the kitchen. The pool is a god-send as it does get extremely hot (well over 40 degrees during our stay), and was big enough to keep our boys happy. The village is in a beautiful area, and the house has lovely views of its churches and the surrounding countryside. The streets are very steep- good exercise after dinner. There are a couple of good, very cheap and friendly restaurants in the village which still follow the custom of providing free tapas with a drink- in fact often so much free food you won't need dinner! The museum in the church on the hill was well worth the climb, ask in the tourist information office for tickets. The nearby town of Alcala la Real also has a fascinating castle/ museum. And the Alhambra Palace in Granada is a must (book in advance, and go in the morning- it's cooler and less crowded). We would thoroughly recommend Casa San Jose and this area of Spain; our family with three teenage boys had a great week there.
Activity and Interests
Malaga airport is 1 hour's drive and Granada airport is 45 mins drive
Granada (35 minutes). Seville, Cordoba, Antequera, Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada are with in a driveable distances.
On the Route of Washington Irving, (the historical road that links Malaga, Seville and Granada) Montefrio has historical sites and stunning landscapes which are popular with both walkers and cyclist. The local English speaking tourist office is always helpful with lots of information. Although essentially Spanish, there is a small British community, and as a result British newspapers are available daily. In the town there is a good selection of bars and restaurants. In the summer months there is also a local open-air swimming pool with a café bar.
