Beautiful old stone cottages with courtyard and pool - Tri (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2 adults and 2 children)

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Cottages in Vrbanj, Island of Hvar, Croatia - Peaceful, Mountain Location, 3kms to Beach and Other Villages

The Quaich is situated at the foot of the mountains in the peaceful village of Vrbanj. Three self catering cottages surround a communal courtyard and private swimming pool. Our cottages, which are converted animal houses, are fitted to a very high standard yet also keeping their simple charm. The owners, Chris and Mick live on site and will endeavour to fulfil your every need. To enjoy The Quaich to it's full advantage we recommend car hire during your stay but several of the nearby towns and villages are within walking distance and cycling is very popular on the island. We are 5kms from the local ferry port of Stari Grad and 22 kms from Hvar town. There are many restaurants close by and a couple of bars and restaurants in Vrbanj itself. We offer a Romantic package also in Tri cottage and the cost includes several 'extras'. We offer many on-site services including picnics, evening meals on request, library, DVDs, taxi service.

Details for holiday cottage Tri (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2 adults and 2 children), 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4, 1 Bathroom

Tri is our romantic retreat. With double-bed accommodation on a mezzanine level under a pitched roof and boasting an old roll top bath. All our sheets and towels are Egyptian cotton to help keep you cool.

Each of our beds has a mosquito net. Tri is directly adjacent to Dva and is very similar with a large living area where two children can be accommodated on a fold-out sofa bed.

The cottage is equipped with TV, DVD and CD player with attachment for your ipod or MP3 player. There is a hairdryer in each bedroom.

The ground floor consists of an open plan lounge with double sofa bed and fully equipped kitchen including 2 ring hot plate, microwave oven and fridge. Also on the ground floor is a shower and wc.

The linen is changed weekly. All our kitchens are fully equipped and have the basic necessities like tea, coffee, sugar etc. Breakfast, out in the courtyard before the sun gets too high, is a wonderful experience.

About the Owner

My husband, Mick and I, bought The Quaich as a ruin back in 2005 and after much hard work and many trips back and forth from Brighton in UK with the majority of our furniture etc, we opened our doors to guests in summer 2008. The project turned out to be much more demanding than we first thought but with help from family and friends we have turned the ruin into a luxury home that we absolutely love and during the summer months share with our guests. Our life on the island is very different from back in the UK where Mick managed his own glazing company and I was a financial administrator. We still have a base back in Brighton and return there in the winter to see the family.

Owner's Response: It would have been more helpful if these guests had brought these issues to our attention at the time of their visit and we may have been able to help them enjoy their stay with us. For example we could have moved the table from their cottage out in to the courtyard. There is a large table in the main courtyard and Yes, it was one of the busiest times of our season during school holidays and we were full to capacity. However, there is also a smaller table up beside the swimming pool which the guests could have used whilst enjoying the beautiful views of the island and the mainland. The size of the cottages is clearly stated in our advert and also the fact that all outside spaces are shared between the three cottages. We take on board the fact that wifi is not available inside the cottages and we shall endeavour to remedy this for the future. At present the wifi signal is better in the courtyard.

Lovely cottages in peaceful location with excellent hosts!

  • 4 of 5

A great 3 night stay in Jedan cottage last week. The location is absolutely perfect - Hvar town easily reachable within 25mins (drive) and two smaller harbour towns much closer to the cottages with great restaurants definitely worth going to. Watching the sunset in Stari Grad is a must! The cottages are lovely, small but well equipped with a great bedroom. The remote location is so idyllic and so peaceful. The shared courtyard features a big table for dining and pool is perfect for relaxing/sunbathing. Mick and Christine are the most wonderful and welcoming hosts offering up lots of recommendations for the local area and offer a taxi service too. I would highly recommend staying here for a quieter base on the island and hope to go back!

Lovely place ran by an even lovelier couple

The accommodation was great and Christine and Mick couldn't do enough for us in terms of making sure we were enjoying our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. Christine even posted my bracelet that I left behind home to me without me even asking. Highly recommended.

Perfect peaceful hideaway - would def go again!

October was the perfect time for a fair-skinned creature like myself to visit the gorgeous Croatian island of Hvar. With the busy season over, the island felt relaxed and content and the temperature was a very comfortable 22 - 25C throughout our stay. The accommodation is lovely, with much thought gone into convenience and comfort for us guests.

The cottages are just as described, with even basic supplies provided for you in a 'welcome pack' upon arrival - something I have never experienced while on a self-catering holiday on the continent before! The welcome pack included. among other useful items, fresh bread, milk and a selection of homemade jams (made by Chris herself I believe) and such, that took care of our breakfasts for our entire stay. Although we did splash-out once for breakfast, which Chris and Mick (the owners) cooked for us at an extra cost and were glad we did. A full English far from home is always a rare treat, especially when it's done properly (there was even black pudding while we were there).

But by and far the most useful service that they provide is their 'taxi service'. Mick knows the island like the back of his hand and will take you anywhere you wish to go for a very reasonable price. They can also collect you from the ferry port(s) upon arrival, so if like me and my partner you do not drive, or have not brought a car along, you won't miss out on anything. Mick even came to collect us from Hvar Town at 3am one night, and tolerated our drunken ramblings all the way back to Vrbanj.

An excellent holiday and excellent place to stay. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 8 nights as part of our honeymoon and it was lovely. Chris and Mick were a great help and organised our hire car, sailing trip, dinner reservations and had lots of great tips on where to visit. We only hired a car for a few days and used Mick's taxi service for the rest of our stay which allowed us to relax. We stayed in Tri which is very cute and comfortable, and the bath is amazing! The pool area is also lovely and we spent our first two days just chilling out next there.

Vrbanj itself is a very quiet little village which is exactly what we were after, with a great restaurant (5 min walk away) and a little convenience store. Nearby Jelsa was a favourite spot with plenty of restaurants and cafes.

Would love to return here one day!

From the Owner

We chose to buy a property on Hvar mainly because it reminded me so much of Scotland with the mountains and pine forests everywhere and in addition the wonderful climate. In the spring the island is covered with wild stocks and freesia and the smells of rosemary linger. Vrbanj is a small mountain village away from the main road but not too far away from the nearest towns of Jelsa and Stari Grad. The sea is only 3km away and there are so many places to go swimming we are spoilt for choice. I was brought up in a small Scottish village where everyone knew each other and the old fashioned values such as helping your neighbour was a regular occurrence. Vrbanj is still like this and it's a little like stepping back in time.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

There are so many beaches to choose from on Hvar. The closest to us is approx. 4 kms. We have produced a list of the ten best for you to explore - from beautiful white stone beaches to rugged rocks. Snorkelling and diving are favourites on the island. There are plenty children friendly locations as well secluded romantic coves.

We can arrange an Island Tour for you so you will be able to see sites you would not normally experience.

We recommend car hire. The main airport on the mainland is Split some 30 mins drive from the ferry port. The ferry to Stari Grad takes 2 hrs and the catamaran takes 1.5 hours. We can arrange to collect you from the airport - please ask for costings but collection from either Stari Grad or Jelsa on the island is included in the package. Arrivals/departures in Hvar Town have a small supplement of 100 kuna. There is a Krilo catamaran that comes from Dubrovnik to Hvar Town.

Vrbanj is close to most of the main towns on the island. Jelsa, Vrboska and Stari Grad are 3 - 5kms away and Hvar town is 22kms away. There are also many trips to the nearby islands and the mainland.

Further Details:

Vrbanj has a local shop, post office, 2 bars and a restaurant. The nearest large town is Jelsa, 3kms away with a beach, marina, banks, shops, restaurants, bars, medical centre and a nightclub.

If you would like us to arrange sailing, sea kayaking or small boat rental just let us know and we can recommend a reliable agency.
