Down a long driveway you approach this beautiful trullo, which is in a lovely setting. There is plenty of outdoor dining and relaxing space and the interior of the trullo does not disappoint as it is modern, very clean and very comfortable and we found everything that we needed for our weeks holiday. Clear directions were provided to ensure we arrived without any hassle and the information provided by Angelo on the property and also the town, especially with the parking, was really useful. I would recommend that you need a car to get around. The Market in Cisternino on Monday was fun to mingle with the crowds and we also visited Ostuni, Matera, Martina Franca, Alberobello and travelled along the coast road to visit the beaches. We had also downloaded some local walks, which were beautiful, through the olive groves and vineyards which gave a different perspective. All in all a fantastic base for a lovely holiday. Thank you.
Go traditional in this charming Trullo ready for the modern holiday maker.
This property is exactly as described and makes for a perfect holiday for those who wish to experience something very different in their accommodation, and sample an older, rural Italian way of life in these unique structures. There are a lot of them (Trullos) but only in a very restricted area of Puglia, so this is a great opportunity for the semi-adventurous.
Puglia is quite different from most areas of Italy. And the area of Cisternino, just outside of which lies the property, is typical. It sits up high on the extensive Murge plateau; and the land, although fairly well above sea level, is more rolling hills than the usual Italian uplands scenery, but rather pleasant if in an unspectacular way. On the coastal strip and further south around Lecce it is mostly flattish land of limited interest (for us).
There are plenty of places worth a visit locally and further afield. We particularly enjoyed Polignano di Mare, Ostuni, Locorotondo, Alberobello and Conversano. Avoid Bari.
The use of personal transport is a must, as the Trullo is in a rural position, and a fair distance from the nearest shops etc. I would also advise the use of a SatNav and ensure that you are fully aware of the access directions, especially if arriving at night.
I would recommend the accommodation to anyone whilst bearing in mind the cons which may render the Trullo unsuitable for some.
Very clean, well restored and maintained Trullo, within its own extensive and very attractive grounds with most amenities a person
No internet access, Satellite TV has only very limited non-English channels and often these are also unavailable. If taking children,
numerous children's DVD's may be advisable. There are a fair number of English DVD's and books on site.
There is a pergola covered paved area outside which provides some degree of shade but no protection from the sometimes
(in our experience), frequent and heavy rain showers. A pity because it is often still very warm. (Trullo residents themselves
traditionally spent much of their time outdoors).
By its very nature, a Trullo can be somewhat dark inside, which may not be advisable for every person.
We were at the Trullo for two weeks. The accommodation was not serviced, nor was it offered during the period.
We have just returned from a wonderful week at the trullo and our first visit to Puglia. The accommodation is of a high standard and very well equipped throughout and you will relax in the peaceful setting.
We appreciated David's help and advice before arriving, the information at the trullo is all you need to get the most out of this lovely area.
Have no hesitation in recommending.
Peaceful and gentle
If you're looking to stay join a traditional trullo in Puglia, we would recommend this one. The trullo is peaceful and charming. It's easy to feel at home here.
You can walk into Cisternino old town which is a buzzy little place and it's only a 20 minute drive from some lovely beaches. Other pretty towns and countryside are nearby too.
We wouldn't have changed a thing about this place.
Our three week stay at David's Trullo Della Quercia was a time of relaxation at this beautiful and cozy home; exploration of the lovely hill towns and villages; enjoying some of the best meals at local and nearby restaurants; evening meals on the fantastic outdoor built in grill.
We found the Trullo to be comfortable, clean, simply and beautifully decorated.
David was wonderful at communicating information. Annette and Cosimo, the caretakers, friendly and informative .
Trullo Della Quercia is perfectly located for exploration of the Itria Valley, offering a private and secluded home base while being close to town; walking or driving.
We highly recommend this lovely home
Excellent Location, Well Appointed
As a mature couple the trullo provided ample room to feel that the tastefully and sympathetically restored property fulfilled all our expectations - and more - in providing all that we needed to make it feel a home from home.
The location is terrific, set well away from the road, and with sunny aspects for almost all of the day. It is well positioned for exploring the Itrea Valley and all it’s charming towns and markets and, if you are a first timer visiting Puglia, as we were, you’ll have to go a long way to be better located for fun and adventuring and capturing the flavour of the Puglia region - and there's always the coast only 30 minutes away.
Although in saying how much we enjoyed the region, Alberobello was a massive disappointment for us. That isn’t the first time we've visited a UNESCO World heritage where the sale of fridge magnets are more important than than delivering authentic heritage! (Just our personal view). Eating out proved to be terrific value compared to the UK and shopping at the local markets was an adventure where we discovered produce that never crosses the threshold of a supermarket in the UK - and provided tasty and great value fruit and vegetables. This trullo delivered for us on many fronts and we thoroughly recommend it. When you know that the property is visited on a regular basis by the owner, as this property is, then we have found over the years that you are rarely disappointed as to what the property offers and delivers. This is no exception.

Cisternino renowned for it's many gourmet restaurants, interesting cafe bars and shops. A little about Puglia and places if interest -
Puglia runs from the spur to the heel of the Italian "boot". It is a land of rich red earth, ancient olive groves and unspoilt coastlines. The area produces wonderful fruit, vegetables, olive oil, pasta and an excellent selection of high quality wines. Dining out is reasonably priced and there are plenty of opportunities to sample the local specialties.
Martina Franca and Ostuni are less than 30 minutes away - great for shopping!
An hour away is the city of Lecce, known as "the Florence of the South" and famous for its Baroque architecture.
The Pugliese are warm and friendly people and take great pride in this beautiful, unspoilt region.
Trulli (conical shaped houses) are only found in the Valle d'Itria and the main concentration of them is in Alberobello, a World Heritage Site, about 30 minutes away.
A further 15 minutes beyond Alberobello is Castellana Grotte, the location of the largest system of underground caves in Italy with the most beautiful crystalline formations.
Further afield is the famous octagonal Castel del Monte, built by Frederick II in the 11th century and Matera, where homes and churches are carved from the rock.
The Bhole Baba Centre, which attracts visitors from all over the world, is just 5km, 10 minutes away.
