About the property

The Villa Adriana and Studio, a romantic Venetian 19th century pink-stuccoed house with thick stone walls. One of the landmarks of Lakka. Newly restored to very high standards, our home is set in one acre of ancient majestic olive trees offering complete seclusion, tranquillity and privacy. Yet it is only 5 minutes walk down the hill to Lakka village's harbour with its excellent tavernas and beaches with crystal clear water. And 2 minutes to a hotel swimming pool. Adriana’s interiors are decorated in a comfortable contemporary style, while preserving original features such as the olive wood lintels and stone window alcoves. Large shuttered windows and high ceilings give a luxurious atmosphere of spaciousness and light. Beyond the large terraces, paved walks through the gardens, with its pavilion look out onto spectacular views of Lakka Bay with its famed turquoise waters and the open sea. The lower half is a light, airy studio . A paradise for families, walkers, honeymooners and other romantic couples. Greek GovernmentTourist licence EOT1238/TT.

Why Kenneth Rea chose Lakka

We spend 30 summer holidays travelling round the Greek islands in a happy search for the perfect house on the most idyllic island and we think this is it.

Romantic villa Adriana is about 150 years old, has a wonderful atmosphere, surrounded by gardens in the middle of our centuries old olive grove. We have restored it completely: the traditional outside hides a modern, very light, open plan house that has kept it's Greek roots. It is very peaceful and quiet, but only an 8 minute walk from the beach and five minute walk from the nearest cappuccino in our lovely local village: Lakka with its out door restaurants and shops.

Our guests can use the large local hotel pool for free. This pool is a two minute walk from the house.

In the studio, we love reading in the hammocks, having breakfast on the terrace or in the garden, the short walk under the majestic olive trees to the village. At the villa, we while away many hours in the garden pavilion looking at the view of the boats coming into Lakka bay and admiring the sun setting in the sea. beyond.

What makes this villa unique

Huge garden with ancient olive trees and lots of flowers, quiet, very private and still so close to the village.

Both the villa and the studio have their own part of the garden and olive grove.

The villa has two large terraces and a garden pavilion with a stunning sea view.

The studio has a large terrace and many secret places to sit in the garden, Both the villa and studio have hammocks underneath the trees.

The studio is light, airy and large ( 6 by 5 meters). The villa is light with high ceilings and a large comfortable living room with a smart open plan kitchen. Ceiling fans, excellent beds, great showers, good modern indoor and outdoor furniture: an unbeatable combination of comfort, stunning nature and architectual beauty. Paradise.

What a wonderful place. We chose Villa Adriana for the first week of our honeymoon and we couldn’t imagine a better start to married life! It was absolutely glorious.

One of the best Villas we have stayed in

  • 5 of 5

This villa is one of the best we’ve stayed in – such a generous space. Smaller patio for breakfast, larger terrace after supper and summer house after the beach in the late afternoon. Bedrooms not too hot either. After two weeks we’re so relaxed we can only just stagger back up the hill from the harbour after supper.

Idyllicholiday at Villa Adriana

  • 5 of 5

Another perfect holiday at Villa Adriana. This year the garden feels particularly tranquil and the light that illuminates it all at sunset is my favourite! We don’t want to go home and are already counting down until next summer.

Absolutely stunning villa in prime location!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful villa, beautifully finished with outdoor areas to die for! The setting is one of absolute peace and tranquillity, and the sunset from the pagoda is breath taking. We feel very relaxed and that we have been here for months, not just two weeks. We cannot recommend this villa highly enough - absolute bliss!

A really magical place

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Villa Adriana was even better than we had hoped. It's a beautifully renovated old house with a fresh, contemporary interior that has none of the slightly 'frilly' furnishings found in many of the other rental villas on the island.

Dora, the lovely house manager, was waiting for us when we arrived and a welcome basket had been left for us on the kitchen table. It was a real treat to have such a great selection of books in the bookcase, two super-sized hammocks, a well-equipped kitchen, a really roomy shower, fluffy towels and a twice-weekly cleaning service (this included the removal of rubbish bags so we didn't have to usual holiday chore of having to schlep around the area trying to find the local bins). Dora speaks excellent English and looked after us wonderfully - even going out of her way to make sure we got off the island to catch our flight home during a national strike.

And the garden.....a real movie-star's retreat because it's so secluded. We were ucky to see the garden in its late-Spring mode with the lavender beds, wild garlic, mountain sage, broom and roses providing spectacular vistas, flashes of colour and honeyed-breezes. There is also a spectacular view of the turquoise sea in Lakka bay from the upper terrace.

The best thing of all is that we had three weeks without getting into a car. The villa is a short walk away from lovely Lakka village and two of the most secluded and breathtaking beaches on the island. The village itself is well equipped with some good, affordable restaurants, several grocery shops/bakeries etc and a warm and welcoming community.

Special interest holidays:

Paxos is a walkers paradise, covered with olive trees , cypresses and wild flowers, it has lots of shade even in August. On the eastern side you can walk through the olive groves to the beautiful secluded beaches. On the western side you can reach the awesome cliffs via good foot paths. Organised walking tours are available One of the best ways to see the island is by small boat. Boats, cars and motor bikes can be hired in the village on a daily or weekly basis. Scuba diving and snorkeling. There are also Greek cooking lessons and yoga classes available on the island. The island has always attracted many artists - painters, writers and actors - because of its outstanding beauty and peaceful exclusive atmosphere. As Gerald Durrell, writer of My Family and Other Animals said, Paxos reminded him of Corfu when he was a boy.

8 minutes walk to the beaches of Lakka village, the first one is a cosy small pebbled beach, the second is larger, with sun loungers, umbrellas and a taverna. 2 minutes walk to a large free hotel swimming pool. And 10 minutes shaded walk takes you to the very quiet, idyllic Orkos beach on the other side of the headland. The whole eastern side of the island has many stunning small beaches. From Gaois harbour: a boat ride to the sandy beaches of Anti-Paxos, a tiny neighbouring island.

Fly directly to Corfu: Charter flights, April till November from the UK and from elsewhere in Europe. From London Gatwick you can fly (amongst others) with EasyJet, Thomson and Thomas Cook. You can also fly via Brindisi. In winter: fly via Athens: change for the local Athens-Corfu flight. From Corfu to Paxos: a one-hour hydrofoil trip from Corfu New Harbour (10 minutes by taxi from Corfu Airport). Also by boat, watertaxi and ferries.

The island is tiny, so all distances are very short indeed.

To Lakka village: 5 minutes walk. To Gaois: 7km (4.5 miles). To Loggos: 3km (2 miles).

Further Details:

Lakka has 3 small supermarkets with a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, an excellent butcher, 2 bakeries and an ATM machine. There are about 15 tavernas and cafes in the village and on the harbour front. Plus the best home-made Italian ice cream shop on the island. In the evening the lively village centre is for pedestrians only. Boat, motor bike and car hire available. You can change money in the village, and there is free Wifi. Gaios has internet cafes and free wi-fi on the main square. Couples: Excellent swimming (the sea is still pleasantly warm in late October). Romantic tavernas. The villa gardens have enough space to give you complete seclusion and tranquillity. An ideal starting point for country walks. As Paxos is not open to mass tourism, it has the exclusive atmosphere that Corfu – even Agni! - has now lost. Live the romance of 'Mamma Mia!' Young families:the village is very child-friendly (no cars or motor bikes in the evening). The beaches are safe and great for snorkelling or fishing. A family outing in a hired boat is a highlight and a great way to marvel at the awesome cliffs on the west coast. So is a day trip to the sandy beaches of nearby Anti-Paxos. The gardens of the villa are like an adventure playground. Families with teenagers: the villa is a short walk to the village, so your teenage children can come and go by themselves, and you don’t have to be the taxi driver. In the village there is enough social life, and other young people, for teenagers to find it a really cool place. Great snorkeling, boating and fishing. Older couples: as a starting point for country walks, the Villa Adriana is ideally situated. The garden and the surrounding countryside are covered in wild flowers in early spring and late Autumn. We find the sea warm enough for swimming in at the end of October. There is always sufficient shade for walking under the ancient olive trees, through a range of accessible country walks of different levels.
