Beautiful Detached Villa With A Private Swimming Pool In A Stunning Location

Holiday Home in Outeiro, Nr. Ansiao/Pombal /Penela, Silver Coast, Portugal - Superb Nearby River Beaches, Restaurants Bars And Shops 5 Minutes Away.

This detached villa with private swimming pool is near to excellent local facilities including Aqua Parks & many superb river beaches. It stands in a quarter acre garden of immense character with huge limestone rocks + ancient olive, fig and bay trees providing shade for long lazy days with the fridge close to hand! The 6 metre ‘Wall of Glass’ in the lounge opens onto a full length balcony with breathtaking views over the garden to the hills beyond. The villa occupies a private and peaceful location on the edge of the village of Outeiro yet is only a 5 minute drive to shops, bars, restaurants & a 40 minute journey west through a beautiful landscape of vines, orchards & olive groves to the stunning resorts of The Silver Coast. You can also venture into hidden valleys and bathe at one of the many river beaches for which this area is famous, or away into the mountains where stunning views seem endless, ancient villages cling to steep hillsides and towns nestle beneath medieval castles.

Swimming Pool environment, Garden & Barbecue:

Imagine…. relaxing on a warm summer day. Water cascades gently down a huge limestone rock, mixing with the soothing sounds of birdsong & the murmur of rustling leaves from a nearby bay tree….

To maintain the beauty of our natural landscape we worked closely with a local pool construction company to create a special environment - peaceful & tranquil. The family friendly pool area has 2 pools + 2 water features.

Our main pool is 8m long & 4m wide (26 feet long & 13 feet wide) Depth is variable 1.1m to 1.5m (3ft 6 inches to 5 feet) & is accessed via steps into the shallow end or swimming pool ladder into the deep end.

From here you can watch your children splashing around in their own separate, shallow 2.5 x 1.5m (8 feet x 5 feet) pool which has a waterfall feature specially designed to keep them happy as they play with the water which cascades down a series of small stone ridges.

Both pools are fresh & pure, cleaned throughout the day by our filtration system.

Nearby, water tumbles down a huge limestone boulder into a small pool. The whole area, illuminated after dark, is very atmospheric & wonderful for bathing in the evening.

Child safety is paramount. To achieve maximum security without spoiling the beauty of the pool we have installed a 1.1m high toughened glass safety barrier with a lockable gate.

“FAIR POOL PRICE POLICY You’ll notice that our prices are significantly cheaper in late autumn, winter & early spring. Although it can be very warm in March & November & also warm in winter, we believe that not many people would want to use a pool during those (relatively) cooler months & that you should not pay a premium for an unused pool. In essence we are offering high quality accommodation for 5 months (November to March) at non pool prices. We can however arrange to open the pool between November and March at your request (minimum 2 weeks notice required). Charge applies for opening pool during winter, please ask.

FAMILY FRIENDLY PRICING POLICY. Our children are now adults but we recall holidays we couldn’t afford because of very high prices during school holidays. We therefore decided not to inflate our prices specifically to coincide with school holidays. Inflated prices make it impossible for many families to enjoy a special holiday. Compare our prices; simple to understand & they won’t make you feel like you have been robbed!

And finally, for your peace of mind, Casa Bedrock has been awarded the Alojamento Local license number 19381/AL This is your assurance that we comply with the latest safety standards & regulations.

About the Owner

My wife Corinne and I have lived in Skipton in North Yorkshire for more than 30 years and have 2 sons & 1 grandchild. We're surrounded by beautiful countryside so when we decided to look for a property abroad we were very hard to please. Like many people, we'd watched countless episodes of 'A Place in the Sun' during long winter evenings but never believed we would do anything about it. We initially looked in Spain but whilst visiting Portugal in 2007, we fell in love with this area, it's scenery, tranquility, friendly locals and of course the great weather. We wanted a property which was detached and private but not isolated, with great views, local amenities and good outside spaces. The property had to have character but also be modern, not much to ask then!

"Thanks Dave for making our holiday so special" Calvert family from Madeira

Hi Dave

"Had a wonderful holiday in Casa Bedrock, enjoyed by all. The girls relaxed reading & sunbathing. We swam at river beaches, went sightseeing & just enjoyed the weather. Guidebook is brilliant & meant we could go straight to the beauty spots & didn't waste time finding our feet. It also gave us confidence to go walking. Thanks for all the effort you put into it. Recommended restaurants were great & eating out so cheap. My other observation is the extreme cleanliness of the villa. Congratulations!

Hi Dave

"We loved it! Normally we'd spend very little time in the villa but this was different. The kids even asked to spend a leisurely day to go off exploring & sunbathe in the garden. Home from home" Humphreys family

Hi Dave

"Had a most fantastic time. Such a beautiful villa in a lovely location. The guidebook was invaluable. Did most of the walks & trips!" Tressider family

Beautifully kept villa, great location and gardens

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bedrock is a wonderful villa in a stunning location. We had two weeks of great weather enjoying some of the recommended walks and places by Dave and Corrine. This is our third visit to the Silver Coast and hopefully not our last, the people are very friendly and helpful even though we cannot speak Portuguese .

The villa has everything you will need for your holiday, the information book supplied by Dave and Corrine is an excellent idea that we have never come across in all the years we have been renting. It is a very comfortable villa, clean and well equipped.

I would have no hesitation in booking again.

Owner's Response: Thank you Greig! We're happy to hear that you are such big devotees of Portugal's beautiful Silver Coast region and we're even happier to hear that you enjoyed the villa & our guidebook so much. Quite apart from the beauty of the surroundings, we believe that high quality accommodation, good service & attention to detail is primary to the enjoyment of your holiday.

Fantastic Villa in the Portugese countryside

  • 5 of 5

Casa Bedrock is a beautiful villa located in a quiet village near Pombal. The owners, David and Corinne, really have thought of everything to ensure that guests have a fantastic holiday experience.

Firstly, David has compiled an extremely detailed guidebook of the area with several itineraries for days out, restaurant suggestions and walks of varying lengths and provides this to guests free of charge prior to their arrival at Casa Bedrock. We relied on this guide (which in my opinion is as good as commercially available guidebooks) throughout the holiday to plan our activities which had the added benefit of allowing us to relax on an evening rather than scour the internet for things to do the next day.

The villa itself is extremely well equipped. Books, DVDs and boardgames are provided, as are binoculars for stargazing. (The sky is so clear due to low levels of light pollution, it's hard to describe how many stars are visible compared even to the Yorkshire Dales). If you like listening to music, an extremely good quality hi-fi system is also provided so take along some CDs for those relaxing evenings.

Pool inflatables, beach umbrellas and bucket and spades etc, along with cool boxes are also provided - everything you might need for a day out.

The grounds of the villa are fantastic with room for the kids to play in the lower garden and an absolutely amazing pool area. Our kids (aged 2 and 6) loved the pool which was a lovely 26 degrees during our stay. (Top tip: put the cover on the pool at night to avoid loss of heat).

We will definitely return to Casa Bedrock when the kids are a little older and try out some of the walks. This region has so much to offer and Casa Bedrock is the perfect base to explore it.

Owner's Response: We believe a great guidebook = a great holiday, especially in a beautiful & relatively undiscovered area where very little tourist information is available online or elsewhere - which is why we began writing it 8 years ago. Impossible to add anything to your wonderfully comprehensive review Simon, except how happy we are that we ticked all the boxes for a fun filled family holiday and to say a big thank you for your kind words! A wonderful family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Dave and Corrine (the owner's of the property), were a delight to book with. Information was clear and helpful. The complimentary guidebook was incredibly useful - even to us, having visited central Portugal for the past 7 years. The property itself was very comfortable and clean and contained everything we required for a young family of four. Our boys loved the outdoor space, especially the swimming pool which got a lot of use! We thought the location was very good (in a lovely little village) - lots of attractions close by (within the hour) to keep the children entertained.

The house comes highly recommended by us and we hope to visit again soon!!

Owner's Response: Thanks Kim. We'd no idea you'd visited Central Portugal on so many occasions and therefore we're very flattered that you chose Casa Bedrock for your 3 week holiday. Great to hear that we have 'family appeal' because happy kids equals happy parents and we look forward to welcoming you back to Casa Bedrock!

Fantastic villa with a great pool

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Portugal and staying at the Casa Bedrock just made our visit extra special. The owners, David and Corinne are so lovely and kept us updated about our planned visit and provided us with a very detailed guidebook of the area which David had written himself. We have stayed in a few villas over the years and no owner has gone to such detail ensuring our visit was extra special. There was even milk and bread provisions for when we arrived!

The kids loved the pool area and we spent the first three days at the house and enjoying everything it had to offer. When the kids had had too much sun they played the board games provided and watched the entire Harry Potter series of DVDs also provided with many other films!

Without the guidebook we wouldn't have discovered the river beaches or the amazing San Simaou swimming 'pools' a mountainous relaxing river beach with fresh water swimming pools.

We met some lovely people here but more than anything as a family we loved being at the villa.

We will definitely be returning again but if you're reading this review wondering if this Villa is worth a booking... Book it ! You won't be disappointed in either the villa or its owners! Nick,Emma, Jessica and Xander

Beautiful property in a stunning environment.

  • 4 of 5

It is difficult to think of anything negative to write as this is a very comfortable villa where clearly the emphasis has been put on ensuring guests maximise their holiday experience. The weather was hot, the villa was cool and the pool was very well used particularly by our daughters aged eight and eleven. It is off the beaten track in an area that just begs to be explored. A car is almost essential but there is next to nothing on the roads and its easy to get about. It sounds a cliche but the portuguese all semmed very friendly and despite having no portuguese we managed to communicate easily. It is worth saying that we had a small meltdown on the first night because we had promised the girls a room each and because the 'annexe' room is completely separate from the main house we didn't feel comfortable with one of them in there. I wouldhHighly recommend this property for those wishing to explore an almost forgotten part of Europe in luxury surroundings..

Owner's Response: Thanks for a great review Rob. Judging by the comments in our Visitors Book your daughters also had a brilliant time and in response to your recent email, we'd love to welcome you back! Apologies if the info re our 3rd bedroom was confusing. It is of course in our main house but has separate access. For many people it is a plus as it affords more privacy (teenagers enjoy being a little bit separate from mum & dad...) But we appreciate that in some cases parents with younger children are not as comfortable with the arrangement and children have to share the twin room. Anyway, judging by your desire to return it hasn't put you off & we look forward to welcoming you once again. Thanks!

Off the beaten track!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Casa Bedrock. The house has a light and airy feel, and everything in it tells you this is a house that is loved by its owners. Dinner in the rockery garden on balmy evenings, the gorgeous pool that our 8 ½ year old was barely out of, loads to do in the local area - as owner Dave's marvellous guide book describes... We went to several of the local river beaches (our favourite being the one below the beautiful restored schist village of San Simao), to the towns of Pombal and Tomar (the Couvent there, the seat of the knights templar is like something out of Tolkein!), on several local walks... the house was great and it was a great area to be situated in, far from the madding crowds.

Owner's Response: That's a great review Jon, thanks! Love the Tolkien and Hardy references. We're on holiday, sat by the pool at Casa Bedrock at the moment and I can't see any Madding Crowds nor hear any 'maddening' traffic noise. Just peaceful tranquility and turquoise water...

From the Owner

Although we like the sea, we also love the hills and river beaches. This location provides easy access to everything we and our family enjoy including the fabulous Silver Coast. We saw Casa Bedrock and the views from the garden on the Internet whilst it was being built in 2008. It is located in a beautiful conservation area where planning laws are strict. The developer takes great pride in his work and can only build on the footprint of earlier dwellings or renovate existing buildings which he does superbly and with great care. Casa Bedrock was designed by a local architect who has created a unique property, even managing to incorporate some limestone features whilst retaining as much of the original character and old walls as possible.

Special interest holidays:

Free illustrated guidebook. There’s nothing worse than starting your holiday with no idea of where to go - what to see and what to do. So to enable our guests to plan ahead we send a comprehensive guidebook of the area prior to your holiday. It is free for you to keep and is packed with information on things to do and places to visit, from golden sands to river beaches + mountain villages and includes contact details for activities as diverse as trekking, water skiing & surfing. It is illustrated with over 100 colour photographs and detailed walks, recommended restaurants, shops, markets and local facilities. We also include directions from Lisbon and Porto airports. As one of our guests said last year. "Just received the keys and your book of the area - brilliant"! & others.... "Your guidebook was brilliant & saved us a great deal of time & trouble". "Thanks for your excellent guide to the area which was breathtaking & tranquil".

The beautiful Silver Coast beaches are an easy drive of about 40 minutes. From the lively resort of Figueira da Foz and southwards to the quieter coastal gem of Sao Pedro de Moel, the waves of the Atlantic sweep onto miles of fine golden sand, uncrowded and unspoiled. There is something here for everyone; adrenalin-junkie surfers, beachcombers, lovers, and incurable romantics who simply need to experience the splash of waves around their feet whilst watching the sunset melt below the horizon.

Many airlines have cheap flights from UK airports such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Gatwick etc to Porto & Lisbon. Flight duration is approx 2 hours. Then it's an easy drive of 1hr 40mins on A1 South from Porto Airport or approx 1hr 50 mins on the A1 North from Lisbon. Roads in Portugal are quiet & well maintained and even the A1 is comparatively stress free. A car is of course essential but because there are so many places of interest near your holiday location, driving is not a chore.

Pombal Aqua Park (20 minutes). Ansiao Swimming Pool (10 minutes). Our private pool (5 seconds away -:) River beaches + changing facilities & cafe bars (within 20mins). Tomar, with Medieval castle and large market (35mins). Penela, old town with cobbled streets rising up to well preserved castle (15mins). Coimbra, historic city of culture (30mins). Beautiful beaches of the Silver Coast (40mins). Conimbriga, Roman city (20 mins). Wide choice of quality restaurants at unbelievable prices nearby.

Further Details:

The surrounding area is beautiful and diverse, ranging from pastoral valleys containing orchards, vineyards and olive groves, through deep gorges with waterfalls and tranquil pools for bathing, or to bare mountainsides with exposed limestone and miles of tracks and paths offering exciting opportunities for walks and exploration ( 2 x small rucksacks with sufficient room for drinks & sandwiches are provided for your convenience.)

In spring & summer months the ground is alive with wild flowers growing through & around areas of limestone paving which are literally ‘on the doorstep’.

When you first arrive, you can’t fail to notice the shepherds track which runs behind the back of the villa. It winds along, through & across limestone paving between dry stone walls & links with other lanes & tracks, ideal for an evening stroll after dinner or a much longer walk for the more adventurous.

Although the coast is only 40 minutes away, many of our guests have been quite content to use the local river beaches. They’re all located in beautiful surroundings & are a speciality in this area of Portugal, being incredibly well organised & most of them having cafe’s, changing facilities, & toilets. Details of these are also available in the guidebook.

If pretty towns with castles are your thing then there is no shortage of these. The closest is Penela, a lovely picturesque little town which nestles below it’s well preserved medieval castle. It’s an ideal place for an evening out, where you can sit as the sun dips below the horizon, taking the heat out of the day as a warm glow spreads across the valley & picks out the mountains of the Serra da Lousa away to the east.

We think that the most outstanding benefit of this area is it’s diversity, which enables you to tailor your holiday to suit the whole family regardless of age. The aforementioned free guidebook will be a big help in this respect & your only problem will be deciding what to do first! Free wifi internet.
