This detached villa with private swimming pool is near to excellent local facilities including Aqua Parks & many superb river beaches. It stands in a quarter acre garden of immense character with huge limestone rocks + ancient olive, fig and bay trees providing shade for long lazy days with the fridge close to hand! The 6 metre ‘Wall of Glass’ in the lounge opens onto a full length balcony with breathtaking views over the garden to the hills beyond. The villa occupies a private and peaceful location on the edge of the village of Outeiro yet is only a 5 minute drive to shops, bars, restaurants & a 40 minute journey west through a beautiful landscape of vines, orchards & olive groves to the stunning resorts of The Silver Coast. You can also venture into hidden valleys and bathe at one of the many river beaches for which this area is famous, or away into the mountains where stunning views seem endless, ancient villages cling to steep hillsides and towns nestle beneath medieval castles. Swimming Pool environment, Garden & Barbecue:

Imagine…. relaxing on a warm summer day. Water cascades gently down a huge limestone rock, mixing with the soothing sounds of birdsong & the murmur of rustling leaves from a nearby bay tree….

To maintain the beauty of our natural landscape we worked closely with a local pool construction company to create a special environment - peaceful & tranquil. The family friendly pool area has 2 pools + 2 water features.

Our main pool is 8m long & 4m wide (26 feet long & 13 feet wide) Depth is variable 1.1m to 1.5m (3ft 6 inches to 5 feet) & is accessed via steps into the shallow end or swimming pool ladder into the deep end.

From here you can watch your children splashing around in their own separate, shallow 2.5 x 1.5m (8 feet x 5 feet) pool which has a waterfall feature specially designed to keep them happy as they play with the water which cascades down a series of small stone ridges.

Both pools are fresh & pure, cleaned throughout the day by our filtration system.

Nearby, water tumbles down a huge limestone boulder into a small pool. The whole area, illuminated after dark, is very atmospheric & wonderful for bathing in the evening.

Child safety is paramount. To achieve maximum security without spoiling the beauty of the pool we have installed a 1.1m high toughened glass safety barrier with a lockable gate.

“FAIR POOL PRICE POLICY You’ll notice our prices are significantly cheaper in autumn, winter & early spring. Although it can be very warm in March & November & also warm in winter, we believe that not many people would want to use a pool during those relatively cooler months & we therefore close it during that period because you should not have to pay a premium for an unused pool. In essence we are offering high quality accommodation for 5 months (November to March) at non pool prices.

FAMILY FRIENDLY PRICING POLICY. Our children are now adults but we recall holidays we couldn’t afford because of very high prices during school holidays. We therefore decided not to inflate our prices specifically to coincide with school holidays. Inflated prices make it impossible for many families to enjoy a special holiday. Compare our prices; simple to understand & they won’t make you feel like you have been robbed!

My wife Corinne and I have lived in Skipton in North Yorkshire for more than 30 years and have 2 sons & 2 grandchildren. We're surrounded by beautiful countryside so when we decided to look for a property abroad we were very hard to please. Like many people, we'd watched countless episodes of 'A Place in the Sun' during long winter evenings but never believed we would do anything about it. We initially looked in Spain but whilst visiting Portugal in 2007, we fell in love with this area, it's scenery, tranquility, friendly locals and of course the great weather. We wanted a property which was detached and private but not isolated, with great views, local amenities and good outside spaces. The property had to have character but also be modern, not much to ask then!

Although we like the sea, we also love the hills and river beaches. This location provides easy access to everything we and our family enjoy including the fabulous Silver Coast. We saw Casa Bedrock and the views from the garden on the Internet whilst it was being built in 2008. It is located in a beautiful conservation area where planning laws are strict. The developer takes great pride in his work and can only build on the footprint of earlier dwellings or renovate existing buildings which he does superbly and with great care.

Casa Bedrock was designed by a local architect who has created a unique property, even managing to incorporate some limestone features whilst retaining as much of the original character and old walls as possible.

What makes this villa unique

Peace and quiet, great barbecues, family friendly pool area with lockable barrier (new in 2014), good local restaurants and lots of places to see and things to do including a few walks are what we require from a holiday. We work hard and play hard and therefore need a place to which we can retreat and feel at home. This is high on our list of essentials and we truly believe we have achieved it with Casa Bedrock. We love our 'get away from it all' villa and know that you will too!

Notes on accommodation: From the ultra modern kitchen upwards, the villa cleverly incorporates the bedrock on which it stands, into a stunning holiday home, designed to maximize the circulation of light and air. This culminates in the lounge; a fantastic living space, with high vaulted ceiling and open circulation area leading to 2 of the three bedrooms and bathroom. This cool, bright, spacious room can be transformed within seconds into an extension of your outside space by sliding open the glass doors onto the south facing full length balcony with chairs on which to relax with a cold glass of beer or wine whilst losing yourself in the spectacular scenery. An outstanding feature is the ‘bedrock bedroom'. Much loved by teenagers & those who prefer that little bit of extra privacy, this en-suite room is part of the main house and sole access is from outside. A kettle + chairs and a small table are provided to further enhance this delightfully quirky bedroom / living space. Air conditioning in all bedrooms for a peaceful nights sleep. Free unlimited use of wifi. Perfect Peaceful Location

We are just home from a 2 week stay at Casa Bedrock & already want to return!! The area is very peaceful, perfect for relaxing. Our children loved the pool and spent nearly all their time in it. The villa itself is so well equipped. Wifi was great & kept everyone happy as well as lots of English tv channels. Air con in the bedrooms was fantastic & the villa itself stayed so cool even after day's hitting 30 degrees. The kitchen is well equipped & was easy to cook meals & with the added bonus of a dishwasher, or if you want to eat out there are many lovely restaurants within 5/10 min drive. Shops/supermarkets/banks etc 5/10 min drive away. The guidebook the owner provides or as we called 'the bible' was just amazing. It documents walks, shops, restaurants, days out etc etc, we referred to it every day! If you're thinking of booking, DO IT, you won't be disappointed!!

Stunning views and a pool to die for!

A beautiful villa with views over the countryside which never grow old. Loved lying at the gorgeous pool area while butterflies and birds kept us company. The villa has absolutely everything you need and the extras like books/games/dvds as well as british tv channels were all appreciated. Good bedding and super air con made sleeping easy.

The property was spotless and communication with Dave was superb. Every email or call was answered almost instantly! Dave provides the most amazing guide book which we used every day. It is very obvious Dave cares about his guests and thinks of everything.

There is a well stocked Intermarche in Ansiao, a Chinese shop which sells everything and a handful of restaurants within a 5 to 10 min drive plus a few even closer.The prices of meals in this area are ridiculously cheap and of great quality.

Can thoroughly recommend the property and the area and wished we had been able to stay longer. Thanks for a lovely time.

Beautiful Holiday Home

We had a fantastic holiday. The villa has everything you need. I love cooking and the kitchen was very well equipped. The villa was spotless & very cool after a day in the beautiful sunshine.

Plenty of outside space & different areas to sit. The pool was absolutely fabulous a lot of thought has gone into making this a perfect holiday.

David's guide book is second to none..... we always get lost finding our way to previous villas but this time we found it straight away!!

Plenty of places to visit & things to do a very comprehensive read.

We loved the peace & tranquillity that surrounds the villa, we are looking forward to a trip back next year.

Fantastic location if you want to see the real Portugal lots to see and a very informative guide book written by the owner full of useful information of places to go and places to eat.

The villa is very spacious well equipped and lovely garden and pool to relax.

Everything was first class and the owners are very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Beautifully kept villa, great location and gardens

Casa Bedrock is a wonderful villa in a stunning location. We had two weeks of great weather enjoying some of the recommended walks and places by Dave and Corrine. This is our third visit to the Silver Coast and hopefully not our last, the people are very friendly and helpful even though we cannot speak Portuguese .

The villa has everything you will need for your holiday, the information book supplied by Dave and Corrine is an excellent idea that we have never come across in all the years we have been renting. It is a very comfortable villa, clean and well equipped.

I would have no hesitation in booking again.

The beautiful Silver Coast beaches are an easy drive of about 40 minutes. From the lively resort of Figueira da Foz and southwards to the quieter coastal gem of Sao Pedro de Moel, the waves of the Atlantic sweep onto miles of fine golden sand, uncrowded and unspoiled. There is something here for everyone; adrenalin-junkie surfers, beachcombers, lovers, and incurable romantics who simply need to experience the splash of waves around their feet whilst watching the sunset melt below the horizon.


Many airlines have cheap flights from UK airports such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Gatwick etc to Porto & Lisbon. Flight duration is approx 2 hours. Then it's an easy drive of 1hr 40mins on A1 South from Porto Airport or approx 1hr 50 mins on the A1 North from Lisbon. Roads in Portugal are quiet & well maintained and even the A1 is comparatively stress free. A car is of course essential but because there are so many places of interest near your holiday location, driving is not a chore.


Pombal Aqua Park (20 minutes). Ansiao Swimming Pool (10 minutes). Our private pool (5 seconds away -:) River beaches + changing facilities & cafe bars (within 20mins). Tomar, with Medieval castle and large market (35mins). Penela, old town with cobbled streets rising up to well preserved castle (15mins). Coimbra, historic city of culture (30mins). Beautiful beaches of the Silver Coast (40mins). Conimbriga, Roman city (20 mins). Wide choice of quality restaurants at unbelievable prices nearby.

Further Details:

The surrounding area is beautiful and diverse, ranging from pastoral valleys containing orchards, vineyards and olive groves, through deep gorges with waterfalls and tranquil pools for bathing, or to bare mountainsides with exposed limestone and miles of tracks and paths offering exciting opportunities for walks and exploration ( 2 x small rucksacks with sufficient room for drinks & sandwiches are provided for your convenience.)

In spring & summer months the ground is alive with wild flowers growing through & around areas of limestone paving which are literally ‘on the doorstep’.

When you first arrive, you can’t fail to notice the shepherds track which runs behind the back of the villa. It winds along, through & across limestone paving between dry stone walls & links with other lanes & tracks, ideal for an evening stroll after dinner or a much longer walk for the more adventurous.

Although the coast is only 40 minutes away, many of our guests have been quite content to use the local river beaches. They’re all located in beautiful surroundings & are a speciality in this area of Portugal, being incredibly well organised & most of them having cafe’s, changing facilities, & toilets. Details of these are also available in the guidebook.

If pretty towns with castles are your thing then there is no shortage of these. The closest is Penela, a lovely picturesque little town which nestles below it’s well preserved medieval castle. It’s an ideal place for an evening out, where you can sit as the sun dips below the horizon, taking the heat out of the day as a warm glow spreads across the valley & picks out the mountains of the Serra da Lousa away to the east.

We think that the most outstanding benefit of this area is it’s diversity, which enables you to tailor your holiday to suit the whole family regardless of age. The aforementioned free guidebook will be a big help in this respect & your only problem will be deciding what to do first! Free wifi internet.
