Excellent, well equiped villa in a good location and lovely outlook.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, 3 adults and a 3 year old have just returned from our two weeks stay in "Alta Vista". Over the years we have stayed in many villas and appartments, (in fact we owned our own villa for over 20 years), and this was easily one of the best we have holidayed in. The villa is in good decorative order, clean, plenty of cutlery and kitchen tools, lots of glasses and crockery, air conditioning that works and good quality furniture and furnishing. There is plenty of space both inside and out, the pools are clean and well maintained and we felt that the artificial grass was an excellent idea, particularly after we had some rain one day. The photos reflect the real "Alta Vista" and the agent, Natalie was very helpful, particularly when the fridge/freezer decided to fail on us. This was quickly replaced with a new one and although not as luxurious as the one it replaced, there was plenty of space for food and drinks and everything was kept cool. The villa is located on a quiet road, is easy to find and well located for the local towns, supermarkets, restaurants and beaches. Getting to other places of interest such as Tarragona and Barcelona is also easy by motorway. We would like to thank Linda and Alan for allowing us to share their lovely home.

This place is fantastic. Beautiful big pool and spacious living area. Very close to local amenities and nice restaurants. The owner Alan was really helpful and gave additional information as well as a guide book in the accomodation with resturant recommendations and taxi and other local info like the best shops and opening time. We enjoyed our stay so much we re booked and have also recommended to a friend who has also booked. Fantastic place.

A perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

A very stunning and immaculate villa in a perfect, quiet location in the mountains yet still very central to the nearby towns to explore further if you wish.

The villa has everything you would need to chill and relax with family and friends. Great kidney shaped pool with gorgeous jacuzzi for hours of fun.

The private rooftop terrace has amazing views, a must to see and all completely peaceful and private. The bedrooms are a great size and all bright and clean with stunning terraces to wake up too. I cannot find a negative thing to say about the villa it was simply perfect place to stay.

We will definitely be returning soon.

Thank you for the experience.

Peaceful location ideally placed for touring

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 months last year and absolutely loved the villa and the location. It is situated just above the town with lovely views of both mountains and the sea, yet convenient for 2 large supermarkets (and the cheapest fuel station) about a mile away. Sitting on one of the balconies for breakfast whilst watching the hoopoes flying into the garden from the adjacent woodland was a particular pleasure. Then after a day sightseeing or on the beach, just chilling with a refreshing drink on the terrace having just picked the lemons from the tree was delightful. There is also a completely private sundeck at the top of the tower if you want to get an all over tan.

The neighbours were all very friendly and helpful and the few dog-walkers who occasionally meandered along the path beyond the back fence were always very happy to help with advice on places to visit that normally you might not find.

As the villa is in a quiet residential neighbourhood uncontrolled screaming in the pool would not be appropriate, but by the same token it is peaceful and there won't be screaming coming from anywhere else. Inside the villa it is well equipped and cool. A previous reviewer had mentioned concerns about locking the front door internally and leaving the key in the lock, but that was not an issue for us as the door self locks, and if you accidentally shut yourself out via the back door you could still access the front with a spare key ( held by the caretaker).

During our stay we spent many happy days watching the flamingos on the Delta de l'Ebre or driving onto the beach at Riumar to swim and picnic. It was very convenient to visit the Roman ruins at Tarragona, the Moorish castle at Miravet, and, via the train, to travel into Barcelona or Valencia. In addition the beaches and cafes all along the coast by L'Hospitalet de l'Infant mean that you can find somewhere for every taste. We thoroughly enjoyed our extended holiday and would love to return to this villa. There is still more to see!

A lovely villa, but not for everyone

  • 3 of 5

The villa is set on it's own on a typically unfinished Spanish housing estate. To either side is derelict woodland, and to the rear is a steeply banked wood with a walkers path at its base. The only people we saw day to day were walking along this path, normally peering in at us all in the pool!

The location and unfinished nature of the estate give the villa a somewhat uneasy feel, and coupled with the warning in the welcome book about burglaries, we were never fully at ease.

The wooded areas to the side of the property does cause a bit of shade in the garden during the day, and the amount of pine needles that come off the trees meant that the grass area was being covered and killed by the pine needles. During one of the rainy days, the grass looked more like mud. The pool area was always in sun and the decking area around was in pretty good shape, bar a few loose boards.

Inside the villa is a pleasant place to be. It is well appointed and has granite floors and worktops throughout. The sofas and chairs are comfortable, and the bedrooms well furnished. There was no WiFi, and the TV had a very small selection of channels so we had a week without technology which made a change!

Despite being 4 bedrooms, it wasn't completely suited to children - the granite floors got very slippy when damp and wet, and there was glass topped furniture throughout. One of the children accidently broke a piece of glass on one of the bedside tables which ended up costing us 50 Euro from the security deposit (which for what appeared to be a 30 euro table seemed a lot).

The villa had other problems. For some reason you aren't allowed to lock the front door from the inside, and the 2 of the door handles completely failed. Once locking us out of a room, and on the morning of departure, shut one of us into a room! The only solution was waiting for the local contact to come and take the door frame off!

There is a restaurant on the complex which got glowing reviews from previous visitors. We found it good, but very expensive and we ended up driving to the nearest town instead.

L'Hospitalet is quite a pleasant little town - and the market on Sunday was big, and had plenty of nice stalls. The mountain area around the villa is stunning, and keen cyclists, walkers or photographers are in for a treat.

We did enjoy our stay at the villa, but for the reasons mentioned, we were never quite at ease and didn't relax as much as we thought, so won't be returning.

Special interest holidays:

For the fisherman, the Ebro River is 35/40 minutes drive by car. Here, carp, zander and many other species can be caught. Boat fishing trips for catfish, which have been caught up to 180lbs, can also be arranged - enquire of Alan. There are walking trails and rock climbing areas close by and riding stables within 5km. Bicycle hire is available in L'Hospitalet de L'Infant. For the bird watcher the Ebro Delta National Park is a must, as during the year this is, at times, home to some 330 different species of birds and is a major stopping off place for migratory species, including pink flamingos.

The nearest beaches are 5 minutes drive away at Miami & L'Hospitalet. Crystal Beach at Miami is fine white sand, some 3kms long and is very clean and seldom crowded even in the high season. There are many other fine beaches within a short drive. Along the promenade at Crystal Beach there are a number of restaurants and bars and a children's playground.

Reus airport is 25 minutes drive away, whilst Barcelona is just over the hour. Ryanair fly a scheduled service to Reus, from many UK airports, whilst easyJet fly into Barcelona. During the summer there are also many charter flights into Reus.

Car hire is essential and readily available at the airports but prior booking is advised.

Miami & L'Hospitalet are 5 minutes away by car. L'Amettla de Mar is 20 minutes down the coast, whilst Cambrils is a similar distance up the coast. Port Aventura and Costa Caribe Water Park are at Salou, a 25 minute drive. Salou itself is also a popular family holiday destination with superb beaches. The ancient Roman city of Tarragona is well worth a visit. Barcelona is readily accessible by motorway, but is also easily reached by train. This is convenient and cheap from the local station.

Further Details:

The nearest supermarkets, banks and shops are at Miami & L'Hospitalet, 5 mins. by car. Just 100 metres from the villa are tennis courts and a bar where the courts can be booked by the hour. No pets accepted.
