About the property

The place spans from the fertile reclaimed land bordering the ‘Lake of Massaciuccoli’ to the hill that faces onto the sea front in between Camaiore and Massarosa. The property called ‘Frantoio del Monte’ was till 1960 the official oil mill of this region. Then it was bought by the Gemma family from Viareggio who went on to press olives till 1990. The main historical building plus barn and stables have been expensively renovated to a very high standard and now offer five elegant apartments, two on each floor (there is a lift) plus an independent house.

About Olivi Rita

My name is Rita. I am 64 and my husband Romano is 68.

We live in Viareggio at about 300m from the district Marco Polo. We love this town very much for its beautiful sea and clean air and especially for the possibility of enjoing the sweet atmosphere offered by the wonderful promenade. We like to walk or to go by byke very early in the morning along the promenade to taste the silence of the first hours of the day. I met my husband in Viareggio at school, then we got married in the year 1974, we have two sons, Riccardo and Renato who are now 38 and 31 years old. We bought this apartment in the year 2008.

Olivi Rita purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Olivi Rita chose Massarosa

We bought this property in 1965 because we wanted a place among nature where we could find relax and old traditions. The restoration of the old building took place in the year 2000. My husband and I often go with guests to the nearby hills where it is possible to admire wonderful panoramas and typical rural villages with very simple people. We use to leave very early in the morning to avoid heat and to enjoy peace and beautiful colours of the early hours.

What makes this apartment unique

When we are at the property we like to enjoy the smell of flowers and the green all around. Olive trees, cypress, and every kind of trees, lemon trees, oranges. We like to harvest olives in October and taste the extra virgin olive oil, very green and spicy on the "bruschette". We like to reach the beach of Viareggio in the morning and to stay at the pool in the afternoon. In this place there are several possibilities to spend a great holiday: famous Tuscan towns like Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Siena, walking, trips by boat to tje 5 Lands (5 Terre) or around the Massaciuccoli Lake, excursions to the Apuan Alps to the splendid Garfagnana Region. Everything is reachable in few time. We never get bored. We like also to go by bike to the nearby villages of Balbano, Massaciuccoli and Nozzano.

We are sad to leave your beautiful house and garden. which we absolutely adore and of course the pool. We have enjoyed our stay at Frantoio del Monte hugely. Our time was even better (if possible) by the kindness and attentive hospitality you have shown us. We return to the UK. The rain, our Labrador, and our home, but we will think of you often and foundly.

Absolutely beautiful, very clean, fantastic pool, lovely people. Thank you Romano and Rita. This was a very relaxing holiday in a little piece of heaven.

Notes on accommodation: The apartments offer spacious, high standard accommodation with the most impressive roof beams we have ever seen. Each apartment is furnished individually and attention has been paid to every detail. The ground of the estate are completely enclosed so that children can play and run in the garden with absolute security. There is a reception where guests can apply for information. Outside: The 12x6m shared pool (depth 0,95/2,20) open May/October, between 9-20 hours with chaises loungers and parasols, sunbeds, is situated next to the olive grove where guests can sit under the shade of trees and make use of the barbecue and pizza oven, tables and chairs. Outside shower. WC. Inside parking for two cars,- ping pong, slide, swing-basket, bikes at guests' disposal free of charges. The estate is set in a picturesque olive grow with its own swiftly flowing stream that has for centuries provided the power to operate the mill. For reason of safety the banks are now covered by a metal grill, so there is no danger of falling into the stream.

Wonderful holiday accomodation in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

I cannot recommend this property highly enough...spacious, clean ,comfortable apartment with everything you could need. Rita and her family were very helpful and welcoming. Our 3 daughters (age 8, 12, 15) spent many hours in the pool with newly made friends. The gardens were beautiful and we spent several evenings outside...including using the pizza oven and bbq one evening...great fun! Lots of places to visit within easy drive as well as countless restaurants and pizzeria!! We spent several days/ evenings in Lucca, had great fun climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa ( pre-book as gets very busy). A trip to Florence is a must...about an hour but beautiful city, also the marble tour in Carrara was well worth a visit.

Highly recommend it!

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation is superb and set in beautiful surroundings. Its a wonderful location for visiting fabulous cities like Pisa, Florence and Lucca.

Viareggio has a great beach and is not too far away. Our two girls spent a lot of time in the pool, and we had fun using the pizza oven on-site with friends, very Italian!

The village has everything you need supermarket, chemist, restaurants and a bank. The food was great, the prices were really reasonable.

Thanks to Rita and her family for making our stay really enjoyable, I would recommend your property to our friends.

Superb accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the accommodation. It is very beautiful and very spacious. We couldn't have been happier with the place. It's situated in a lovely Olive Garden complete with a very nice swimming pool.

The owners, Rita and Romano, are incredibly nice people an d I would not hesitate to recommend their place to anyone wishing to visit this part of the world.

As a base for seeing the likes of Pisa, Florence, Lucca and Viareggio it's a perfect setting.

The village has everything you need close at hand. We stocked up at the Penny Market supermarket which is about 1.5 km from the apartments and across the road from that is the Ristorante Adriana where we ate on several occasions. The f OD was great, the prices were good, the wine excellent and the waiter spoke perfect English (which we found really helpful).

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Nice people, a beautiful house in a lovely garden that offers you a great base for seeing some fabulous cities.

  • 5 of 5

Our holiday was fantastic (thanks to Rita and Romano)!!!

This place is conviniently located, the grounds are great for adults and children (we had a child with us). There is a play ground and a large swimming pool.

Our appartment was beautifully decorated with great views.

In short, this is a perfect place for a Tuscan holiday!

It is a part of the province of Lucca, including the municipalities of Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, Massarosa, Pietrasanta, Seravezza, Stazzema and Viareggio. Versilia boats 20 km of interrupted sandy shore from Torre del Lago Puccini and Forte dei Marmi and vast green spaces of pine woods. From our property it takes about half an hour to reach the beach of Viareggio.

The area is an important base to reach major Tuscan art cities in a reasonably short time. From a naturalistic point of view, the area is well known for safeguarding the environment with a rich diversified natural landscape comprising the majestic mountains of the Apuan Alps - offering a magnificent backdrop to the colourful coastline - consisting in some of the highest peaks in the region. The Apuan Alps Regional Park provides an ideal environment for trekking, walking, cycling, horse riding or mountain climbing. This is ideal for people of all ages and families and can be enjoyed the whole year round.

Massarosa is located at the foot of the hills. It consists of Lake Massaciuccoli, cherished and celebrated by the famous composer Giacomo Puccini, as well as a hilly area cultivated with vineyards and olive groves which, along with the home cooking of its restaurants, makes it a haven of peace, ideal to spend an afternoon away from the bustling life at the beach. In the magnificent scenery of Lake Massaciuccoli - one of the places most dear to Puccini and source of constant inspiration to him- every summer the Maestro's most famous operas are performed at the open air theatre with an extensive programme of events.

Viareggio is the largest municipality in Versilia, famous for the wonderful beach and the Carnival. A wide choice of sports is available, from swimming to playing tennis or golfing, hiking, horseback riding, sailing and windsurfing. Moreover, you can enjoy sea and lake tours with a wide range of destinations. Viareggio boats an efficient tourist port containing 500 boats. Viareggio's shipyards are famous all over the world, especially for yachts. There are also pubs, discos, cafés, restaurants, pisserie and beautiful shops and bouitiques along the ‘Passeggiata’ (Promenade along the sea).
