Fabulous week

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in Akaslampolo. The cabin was very cosy & the unlimited supply of firewood was brilliant!!! Very well equipped cabin with a great range of DVDs for all the family! The cabin was spotless & plenty of hot water! Beds were comfortable but we only used the 2 bedrooms on the ground floor so I cannot comment on the mezzanine beds. Cabin was about a 15/20 min walk to the local supermarket & cafés so the position was very good. There was a hotel a few minutes away from the cabin where we stopped everyday for a coffee/wifi & the kids played on the bigger hills with the sledges (Hotel Katlia.. Snow Princess).

The view from the cabin was beautiful! We loved having our morning coffee with the blinds up watching the squirrels playing around 😊

We have 2 young children (3&5) & it was great being able to watch them play in the snow right outside the cabin door! We had Santa come to our cabin with his sleigh & reindeer. If you have children still believing we would highly recommend doing this. It was so magical! (Santa was booked through the cafe directly opposite the supermarket). We booked several activities through Snowfun Safaris who were amazing! They collected us from the cabin & took us to the activity & if we required a lift home it was no trouble! They were only at the top of the road! We would recommend the reindeer safari, husky safari & the snowmobiles! Excellent days!!! We also booked the Snow Village which we were a little disappointed with. Not much there apart from a hotel with nice rooms, a small chapel & an icebar! We were expecting a little village with lots of sculptures but this wasn't the case. We made the most of it & had some bubbles in the icebar anyway 😉.

We had an amazing week & would recommend this lovely cabin! We will be coming back for sure 👍

Thank you Alison & Andy for the use of your cosy cabin x

Snowbear Cabin

  • 4 of 5

There were 8 of us that stayed in the cabin, ideally a slightly larger cabin would have been good but it wasn't too bad considering how many of us there were. The surroundings were beautiful and the cabin was lovely and warm. The owners were really helpful, answering many questions before our visit so we were well informed before we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately half our deposit was kept because we were informed that we left the place in a very bad state. I was very shocked as we spent all morning making sure EVERYTHING had been put away, bins emptied, towels in the machine etc etc. Nothing was left out. This may not have nothing to do with the owners, perhaps coming from the cleaners, but I would advise that you take photographs of the property when you leave, I will definitely do the same any place I stay now as I personally cleaned the place before i left. Apart from that, i would recommend the property.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Snowbear log cabin. Regarding the cleaning charge, we asked our agent to double check with the cleaners regarding the extra charge. They confirmed that it took twice as long as usual to clean the cabin. Therefore, we reluctantly had to withhold this amount from the security deposit. We have never had to do this before.

From the Owner

Lapland has it all! A long snow season, with so much to do without even putting on skis; Santa living nearby; uncrowded downhill slopes, extensive cross country skiing; the Northern Lights. We love the atmospheric kotas (shelters) and firepits on the slopes & on the cross country trails where we can cook sausages or toast marshmallows. In the summer, the many kilometres of waymarked trails through the forests become walking or cycling paths. All of these activities are literally on our doorstep. Autumn (Ruska) brings beautiful colours to the forests and fells, heralding the onset of winter. We love the small friendly village of Akaslompolo with its fells, forests, lake and rivers.

Activity and Interests

Akaslompolo is situated by a lake which has a swimming beach, boat and canoe hire. There is a beautiful walk around the lake. Bird watching hide.

From the Owner

Although traditionally built from 100 year old pine logs, "Snowbear"is fully fitted with everything needed for a relaxing self catering holiday. We like the fact that our cabin is situated in a quiet wooded area of the village, but only a short walk to the supermarket, restaurants and village facilities. We can cross country ski, walk, run or cycle into the forests straight from the door. The ski bus stop is a couple of minutes walk away.
