About the property

Villa in Agnino, Fivizzano, Massa Carrara, Tuscany - Perfect For A Family Get Together Or Group Of Friends

‘Podere La Serra’ is a very special luxury villa with breathtaking panoramic views of the beautiful Apuane hills. This Grade II listed farmhouse has been restored with loving attention to detail, with character features such as the traditional woodburning stove, huge chestnut beams and sweeping staircases. Luxury mod cons have been added such as the stunning infinity pool, looking out onto 50 miles of mesmerising Tuscan hills and valleys, as well as internal features such as ensuite Jacuzzis, Sky TV and wifi access. Outside, a lovely shaded pergola draped with purple bourgainvillia is the setting for al fresco lunches and more often than not a glass of wine produced from the Podere's own vines. Set amongst sleepy Tuscan villages and within 60 acres of private vineyards, olive groves and porcini woodland, this villa affords a wonderful sense of peaceful seclusion, whilst only 10 minutes from Fivizzano and just an hour from Pisa airport.

About Emma Marsh

Adam and I love Italy and this beautiful villa, we have two young children and frequently make the trip over to spend time at La Serra.

We fell in love at the house, lived round the corner for a year, and moved home to the UK to get married and have our children. Since then there have been many engagements on the terrace, and it's a very special place for us.

Emma Marsh purchased this villa in 2001

Why Emma Marsh chose Fivizzano

Adam's father renovated the property - when he first found it the villa was a derelict farm house with the most staggering view. Now we have inherited this lovely villa, with its 6 bedrooms, infinity pool, exposed beams, beautiful stonework and still the extraordinary views.

The people are so special here, we have come to see them as our Italian family. It is a place to escape to, it's good for the soul.

What makes this villa unique

Podere La Serra is luxuriously quiet, it really is an oasis, perched up in the beautiful Tuscan hills. Sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine listening to the church bells and soaking up the glorious sunshine is one of life's greatest pleasures. Our children love the pool, and we find that here we can truly relax and just enjoy being together.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"The Podere is absolutely fabulous. We will never forget the days & nights sitting on the terrace soaking in the spectacular views. Wonderful people, great food, lovely local wine - absolutely super" Debbie & Jerry + friends, Florida

"We have had a wonderful holiday in this magnificent house. This was our second visit and we enjoyed it even more than the first, like slipping on a favourite jumper or meeting old friends we immediately felt at peace, relaxed and happy. This place is special." Richard, Caroline + fami

"An idyllic hideaway. We have been thoroughly spoiled by the view, peaceful surroundings and horizon pool! For complete relaxation Podere La Serra is the perfect location with plenty of space within the villa to put up ones feet. The locals have all been delightful, welcoming and generous. It is refreshing to visit a small village still so untouched by the world at large." - Richard Penny & family.

Notes on accommodation: The property has the option of central heating throughout, should this be required an extra charge is payable. The huge traditional woodburning stove in the living room is brilliant at heating the house and makes for very cosy winter evenings; wood is included in the booking price. The bedrooms are all fitted with wooden black-out shutters to keep them cool in the summer, and all bedrooms are equipped with fans. The villa works wonderfully for families, and the large infinity pool, acres of woodland, olive groves and vines provide ample opportunity for exploring and play. Outside: Secluded olive groves, plentiful vines and seemingly boundless chestnut woods make up the 60 acres of private land attached to the property. The villa itself sits at the very top of the land, with meadows and vineyards to either side, making it easy to keep an eye on children playing in the meadows and immediate terraces below. The large infinity pool is accessed from the terrace to the rear of the house, the pool is 12m x 5m, and flows with natural spring water from the villa's well, deep inside the Apuane hills. Guests can relax by the pool on the many luxury sunloungers or watch from the terrace under the shade of the draped pergola and large hand-made table and chairs, seating 14+. A breakfast terrace to the side of the house has another table and chairs, seating 6, as well as an original working pizza oven. There are raised flower beds with herbs and flowers around the patios, and aloe vera and beautiful rosemary bushes on the path down to the pool. Utility Room: Washing machine, drying area, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bathroom towels, pool towels and all bed linen is included. The property is cleaned 3 x a week and on changeover days. Linen and towels are changed weekly. Other: Dining room: terracotta floor, chestnut beam ceiling, large traditional table - seats 8+ Study: wifi access on request, CD player, CDs and library, views to neighbouring villages and Apuane hills. 2 outdoor dining areas.

We had an amazing week at Podere La Serra. The house itself is amazing, the same goes for everything else: the pool, the cooking by Angela (who cleans the house), the views, the pizzas we made in the pizza oven, the steaks we grilled, the clear starry skies every night, and everything else. Recommended!

The villa is around 40 mins from Lerici with its wonderful beaches and delicious fish restaurants. Portovenere, also 40 minutes away, and the Cinque Terre, a world heritage site made up of tiny picturesque fishing villages and incredible marine reserves, where visitors can hire full scuba/snorkeling gear, are unmissable. Boats take guests from village to village, starting from Lerici or Portovenere. There are hundreds of idylic beaches along this coast with white sand and blue seas-get exploring!

The nearest airport is Pisa, just 1 hour's drive away. Genoa is also a good option, only 1.5 hour's drive. We would recommend hiring a car at the airport, and it does make life much easier when exploring to ask for sat-nav at the airport, although obviously not essential!

Agnino 0.2 miles, Malliano 1 mile, Fivizzano 5 miles, Aulla 12 miles, Cinque Terre 25 miles, Portafino 40 miles, Lucca 50 miles, Florence 90 miles.

Further Details:

There is a bar and general shop within 5 minutes walk of the villa, just round the corner in Agnino. The shop sells local bread (baked just below!) and some cheese and meat. Our local restaurants are fantastic and very close by - our favourites are in Serriciollo, Verrucola, Licciana and Aulla, we would particularly recommend Pasquino's in Aulla.

There is a supermarket in Fivizzano, and a really big one in Aulla that sells anything you could want, including a huge deli counter and all sorts of household supplies. Alternatively there are lots of excellent grocers, butchers, dairies and bread shops in Fivizzano where you can potter about choosing some really wonderful food.

The local markets are Tuesday morning for Fivizzano and Saturday morning for Aulla, both have very fine food sections and are great fun for buying anything from a whole round of Parmesan cheese to a spit roast pork joint, watch out for the salt cod, Gorgonzola and outstanding tomatoes...

Village festivals happen all the time and if you keep your eyes peeled as you drive around you're sure to see posters for a chestnut festival or borlotti bean party, these are very friendly and hilarious, do try them out!
