About the Owner

We are a retired couple, living in North Wales but spending half the year in the sunny Vendee maintaining and servicing our gites, gardens and heated pools (not a bad life!). Our properties are totally private within their own private gardens with private heated pools; they are not on shared sites but a few kilometres apart. There are no owners on site and all the facilities at each property are for the sole use of our guests too - nothing is shared. We have more than 20 years experience to draw on and can advise you personally about travel, places to go and things to do. If you come over with just immediate family for company, with friends or as an extended family, please consider one of our lovely properties.

"The gite has everything you need - the kitchen is particularly well equipped"

“2 weeks is not enough”

"Superb holiday, excellent accommodation in an ideal setting

2 families totalling 7 people, les moullieres is easily big enough, ample space, excellent kitchen, well stocked with utensils etc, good shower. Outside, nice grassed areas for children, loads of room for cars, excellent privacy. Amazing swimming pool, very private, endless fun, steps in shallow end useful for 2,3,4 year olds, nice to parade around the pool without fear of public view! Security via gate is brilliant to ensure kids are accompanied,"

"Les M is an absolute wildlife heaven so for keen nature lovers and birdwatchers in the group it was sheer bliss. Birdlife seen purely from the house totalled 42 different species"

"Stayed by the pool most of the week"

Wonderful gite

  • 4 of 5

This was the second visit to this very tranquil gite in the beautiful vendee countryside. The property has everything you need for a very relaxing holiday with a fabulous pool which was used extensively as the weather was hot and sunny everyday. The cave with snooker and pool tables was also a big hit with our teenage sons. The accommodation is very comfortable with excellent kitchen equipment and a lovely BBQ area. It suits all family requirements. We are returning next year as we love it as a second home.

Beautiful place.

  • 5 of 5

We're just home from a weeks stay in Les Moulieres. It was a beautiful place - very peaceful and private. The pool is gorgeous and is very well kept. On the couple of rainy days we had , we had great fun playing both Snooker and Pool. There is great shopping in Fontenay le Comte, less than 10 mins away and the museum here is also well worth a visit.

We also drove to the coast - about an hour away but worth it (wonderful beaches).

Unfortunately, we had a bit of car trouble but Rona and Peter couldn't have been more kind and helpful.

We would highly recommend Les Moulieres and have already booked another week in September!

Mark and Nessa Hayden, Ireland.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

The property was in an idyllic setting in lovely rural countryside.

Rona and Peter were extremely helpful and informative with the local events and places to visit.

The pool was extremely private overlooking the gardens and wooded area.

The house was much larger than expected and very well equipped and clean.

We had a very relaxing stay and would recommend it for both older couples and people with children, there's so much to keep children entertained with the lovely pool, football area and games room. My only regret is having to leave it all behind, we will be going again in the near future.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We all had a truly memorable holiday in this Lovely well equipped gite in a very beautiful part of the Vendee. All the facilities were excellent with the pool being an absolute hit.

it was very clean and well maintained.

Peter and Rona were very helpful and friendly but not intrusive.

There are plenty of local activities and places to visit should you wish but it was nice to spend lazy days around the pool in a very tranquil place enjoying the sunshine.

We look forward to returning next year.

Peaceful rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a peaceful rural retreat this cottage is. Away from the village but in a little hamlet so not isolated. We needed the car to drive to the village for bread, it is walkable but you need to have time to spare. The bakers is extremely good, the bread, croissants and prefou a real must. The kitchen is very well equipped and lounge very comfortable. The garden is delightful with plenty of space for children or adults come to that to play ball games. The pool for us was superb, kept at a steady 26/27c it was good to get into even when there was a cool breeze blowing. It is a totally private location and as such is worth its weight in gold. The Asian Gourmet Restaurant in Fontenay-le-Comte is well worth a visit. We had a lovely evening here - it is serve yourself buffet style where you can eat as much as you like. The food was excellent and the wine prices were very reasonable.

La Rochelle, Coulon, Parthenay and The Mervent Forest are all delightful places to visit. Well Done Rona and Peter your cottage does you proud, we loved it.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time to send in a review. We're delighted that you enjoyed the holiday and had a very Happy Birthday - Les Moullieres is ideal for couples out of the high season - it's a bit livelier during the school holidays with the pool and gardens occupied by excited children! There is a lot to do in the area without travelling too far away from that lovely pool -hope you found the leaflets and maps in the house helpful. Glad you found the Gourmet d'Asia - it is amazingly good value and the quality and choice of food is second to none. The 'Where to eat' information and reviews we've put together can be useful and interesting even if you prefer to eat at home in Les M. [ so nobody has to drive and you can all enjoy the local wines too!] We'd love to see you back at Les Moullieres sometime soon - or it may be La Maison Blanche next. You could try the latter yourselves out of season yourselves first and check it out before you bring the rest of the family. Best wishes, Peter and Rona

Location

From the Owner

We purchased our first property, in France over 20 years ago and the business developed as more and more family, friends and friends of friends started to come over to stay. So we bought our second property Les Moullieres as a smaller retreat but folk still found us! We chose the area because of the Mediterranean like climate and its relative proximity to the ferry ports (3 hours from St Malo) and the west coast beaches (45 minutes drive). We are situated away from tourist hotspots but are close enough to enjoy all the tourist attractions - perfect! The properties are rural but not isolated and facilities such as shops, banks, doctors and dentist and restaurants are within easy reach.
