Luxury Apartment in Les Deux Alpes, France - Easy Access To Town And Slopes

Our chalet apartment was newly rebuilt in 2007. It has high, vaulted ceilings and exposed beams to provide a modern clean and airy space with charm and character in a great location. The Sejour (combined living & dining room) opens onto a full length, west facing balcony to catch the afternoon sun. Three full, private bedrooms sleep up to 6 people. The master bedroom opens on second large balcony with an unimpeded view of the far mountains. There is a well-appointed kitchen for self-catering or you can dine out reasonably every night. The Vallee Blanche Liaison (green run) is a 150m walk and serves both sides of the resort and then the Jandri Express lift to the glacier for ski in / ski out throughout the season. Located in a peaceful neighbourhood, there is a mini-supermarket just next door with shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Les Deux Alpes is a lively resort offering a variety of ski and snowboard terrain including the largest ski-able glacier in France - suitable for beginners and experienced skiers.

Why Stephen Roe chose Isere

Sarah and I really love skiing - there is no better antidote to the grey British winters. We chose Les Deux Alpes because the glacier guarantees snow - and because our kids like to snowboard. It avoids being too pretentious and it is not a concrete jungle. You feel like you are in Europe, the resort is very popular with French and Italians. It's a lively resort with something for everyone, even if you don't ski - but our location is just enough off the main drag to avoid disturbance from late night revellers. It's pretty affordable and easy to get to from Grenoble or Lyon airports.

What makes this apartment unique

We really value the fact that we have a fabulous view straight from the master bedroom, and a really sunny deck for a relaxing apres ski verte du vin. What really drew us to the apartment was the wood beams and eves - character even in a newly built chalet.

The mountain has some great spots off the beaten track - try Kanata (the "hippy hut" on Pied Moutet side) or La Fee (at Xmas you get 20 minutes of sun on their terrace if you time it right). In contrast, Le Diable au Coeur is a very luxurious restaurant at the top of the first chairlift form town. La Grave is an entire off piste resort that interconnects with Les Deux Alpes for the truly adventurous (ski guide needed).

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Every room has an individually adjustable electric radiator. Outside: Two large balconies offer a sunny aspect (from the sejour) and views (from the master bedroom) providing an additional sense of space and light. Utility Room: There is a utility / cloak cupboard in the main hallway. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We have a friendly, English speaking local agent who provides keys, handles security deposit, weekly maid service and linen pack. She can provide ski passes and a welcome pack and advice on ski hire and lessons. Late night key pick ups by arrangement. Other: Plentiful parking is available outside the chalet. A secure garage on the ground floor is available to store bikes (summer only).

Les Deux Alpes - ski apartment

Lovely apartment, spacious and well equipped. Exactly as described. Kitchen had everything we needed to self cater including a fondue set. Plenty of hot water which is essential after skiing. Helpful owner pre departure and good agents in resort.

We didn't need to go further than the nearest supermarket for food although there is more choice in the centre of the resort. The nearest ski hire place and the lift pass office are only 100 yards away. Due to snow conditions we had to walk in ski boots to and from the bus stop (hint - check the timetable) but it really isn't far and as soon as we got to the top of the Jandri, the skiing opens out and there was plenty to do.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Gail - sorry that you ended up using the shuttle bus - snow everywhere in the Alpes was very thin this January. At least we have the glacier higher up to guarantee good snow at the top. I can report that the green piste behind our building is now open for ski in / ski out (after ~200m walk).

Lovely property - all you need for a week away

Check in was great - the local agent does everything she can to help you out during your stay. For us this included letting us have the keys early as we arrived in resort and getting us towels from her house as the laundrette had closed!

Chalet is on the 3rd floor with no lift. Not a problem for us but may be for others.beutiful views, well situated in the quieter end of resort. 100m ish walk to the free bus stop for the ski lift as there was no snow at the bottom. Shop very close for all food, a couple of lovely bars and restaurants very close or again jump on the free bus into the heart of the resort. La Patate was the closest and great food at a good price. We were tempted by the rotisserie chicken at a shop not far - don't bother €19! Crepes a go go and les spot (English run - build your own burger - among others) were other good restaurants we found. Bowling was great family fun although at the other end of town.

Chalet itself has everything you need for a week away. Great storage in the garage boot room. 3 bedrooms with enough storage, washing machine (meaning we brought few dirty clothes back), balconies to see the views. Make sure you take slippers as the floor is very cold!

We used first trax ski school for our boys who were fantastic - they are the ones where you pick your key up from. Small groups unlike if you book with ESF or other big company. Our boys were in a group of 3 and made lots of progress.

Would definitely go again!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the review and feedback - there was some good snowfall finally in the first week in January needed to build on the poor snow levels being reported throughout the alps and the ski run behind our chalet (100m) is now open for ski in / ski out too. Great advice on the slippers - or maybe flip-flops?

bon séjour

Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour , l'appartement est très agréable par contre au niveau équipements il n'y a pas de four impossible de faire des repas de montagnes, pas d'aspirateur pour faire le ménage assez compliqué surtout qu'il n'y a qu'un manche à balai pour laver et balayer, la télé du salon est vraiment très petite, il faut une loupe pour regarder du fauteuil! Concernant la machine à laver il serait souhaitable de mettre la notice (machine avec sèche linge)

Appartement bien aménagé et en excellent état ! Nous y avons passé 1 semaine fort chargée entre balade et ski et lors de la fin de journée, nous étions content de retrouver un appartement bien spacieux afin de pouvoir profiter de la soirée. Seuls bémols : pas de four, pas d'Internet pour ceux qui y sont accros et les portes sont un peu mal réglées et donc, impossible de bien les fermer.

Owner's Response: Cher Nicolas, merci pour votre review. Nous espérons a changer le microwave pour un combi four. Le wifi est aussi "en train" , maintenant, je peut utiliser le GSM (signal excellente) sur mon iPhone avec "Personal Hotspot" - il donne 4Mbps par 4G. en anglais... Well furnished apartment in excellent condition! We had a very busy week between walking and skiing and at the end of the day we were happy to find a very spacious apartment so we could enjoy the evening. Only downside: no oven, no internet for those who are addicted to it and the doors are a bit poorly regulated and therefore impossible to close them properly. To come back!

Location

Special interest holidays:

During the summer months, there is a wide variety of activities such as swimming (there are 2 outdoor pools in addition to the bathing lake), karting, hiking, golf, skateboarding, parapenting, white water rafting, tennis & mountain biking. The local walks are varied and beautiful. The resort lays on a whole range of community activities to cater to visitors - firework displays, farmers markets, etc. which vary from week to week.

Coast/Beach:

A newly landscaped bathing lake is situated in the about meadows about 500m from the chalet. Complete with childrens play area and picnic facilities; it has spectacular views over the surrounding mountains. Kids can enjoy crossing the bridge to the island; with a natural mountain brook that runs over a fun waterfall.

Travel:

Nearest airports are Lyon and Grenoble with regular flights from all the UK airports to both. Bus links from both airports plus car hire available - you could be at the resort in under 2 hours from Lyon.

Les Deux Alpes is approximately 7-8 hour drive from Calais and easily accessible by car.

Distances:

Alpe d'Huez is 32km. Serre Chevalier is 67km.

Valloire 62km. Montgenevre and the Italian Alps 74km.

Further Details:

A small and friendly Casino mini-supermarket is just 2 buildings away. TriBeCa is a charming local pizzeria (400m walk). The rustic Kanata restaurant on Pied Moutet is fantastic for lunch or just a quick genepi. Windsor Pub is great for socializing. Try the Porte d'a Cote for more sophisticated dining.
