About the property

Ski Apartment in Briancon, Serre Chevalier, France - Next to Ski Lift and River - Ideal for Winter and Summer Sports

The apartment has been recently extensively refurnished and equipped and has been redecorated in May 2014. It is bright, airy and easy to keep sorted. The apartment can sleep 8 but has only one bathroom and toilet so is probably better suited to between 4 and 6 people. It is an excellent location for skiing being next to a fast cabin ski lift with ski hire, lift pass and ski school all within the same building as the apartment. Serre Chevalier is an excellent ski resort, regularly rated as one of the best in France and is great value for money. In the Summer, Spring and Autumn it is a good base for all manner of Alpine activities - walking, white-water, climbing and mountain biking. The lifts are open for many of the summer months to allow easy access to high alpine paths and downhill mountain bike trails. If you choose to base yourself in Briancon you have all the facilities of a tourist town and you also have direct lift access to the mountains.

We don't accept direct booking via Owners Direct as we want to be sure you have chance to ask questions about the flat, local area and the best travel options. We would rather make sure you had the right apartment for your holiday. We are not a business so if there is a better option that would make your stay in Briancon more enjoyable then we are happy to establish that by some direct contact. So please email or phone before booking. Have a look at the film of the apartment on this website - it is a great way for you to see how the apartment looks and the equipment available to you. We take payment by bank transfer, cheque or Paypal - all secure methods. We have been renting the apartment on Owners Direct since 2008 so you can book with confidence knowing we have an unblemished record of dealing with our holiday renters.

About Anne/Mick

Mick and Anne - we have skied in Serre Chevalier for 30 years. We love the mountains, the locals, Briancon and the blue skies. We are both from Leeds (school romance !) and have twin boys now in their early 20's. We now live near the Yorkshire Dales and have semi retired from our career's of policing and teaching.

Anne/Mick purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Anne/Mick chose Briancon region

We chose our apartment as it was high up with great views, south facing and was at the end of the block so it has windows on 3 sides letting in lots of light. Skiing is hard enough without lugging loads of kit via cars and buses to get to the slopes. We are next to the main access lift and can ski back to the flat !

What makes this apartment unique

The flat is also great for being close to the ski school meeting point, supermarkets, local bars and restaurants plus only a short walk (uphill !) to the Briancon Old Town which is lovely.

Apartment was magic, just what we needed. The kayaks went straight into the ski locker area for safe keeping and the apartment was perfect. Michel was a super guy, very friendly and helpful. Mark L

First class apartment in a perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week skiing in Briancon and Serre Chevalier. The apartment was ideally positioned very close to the Prorel lift. it could not have been in a better place; even the ski bus stopped right outside when chose to take it having skied to another village. The apartment had all the facilities we needed for a great week.

Really great location for fantastic skiing

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of six and have been back to the apartment 4 times. It is a great location right next to the main cable car. Snow permitting ( and we have always had great snow in Serre Chevalier) you can ski all the way back down. For us with four children it's great that you can catch the Eurostar to Paris and connect with the overnight sleeper that gets you into Briancon by 8:30 am. Michael, who looks after the apartment for the owners, is really welcoming and helpful. There is a great variety of skiing on and off piste and we've always had great snow when we have been at Christmas and February half term. The facilities and local supermarkets allow us to self cater - which means we can afford to go skiing more often.

It seems to me that if you want really great skiing with a family and at a budget this place is great. The prices at the cafes we use on the mountain are relatively cheap as far as such things go - which means it is affordable to stay on the mountain all day without having to pack sandwiches. It isn't a big or luxurious apartment but it is clean, comfortable and functional and more than adequate for two adults and four boys. I thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Highly recommended - already booked for next year!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment exceeded our expectations, it was larger than expected, clean, very well equipped. Obvious that the owners use it themselves.

Location was brilliant for skiing being just above the ski shop, and next to the lifts & ski school. Skiing was excellent even so early in the season.

Mick was very easy to contact and went out of his way regarding recommendations.

Briancon is a proper town, rather than just a skiing resort, so there's lots for non-skiers to do. People are very friendly & helpful.

We enjoyed it so much that we've already booked for 2018!

This apartment is excellent value for money. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could need in the apartment.

It is very near to the slopes and the chairlift is 'next door'. As it was early in the season there wasn't enough snow to ski to the 'door' but it would be possible if the conditions were right.

There are restaurants within walking distance and the town still retains a friendly feel.

Lovely stay, great location

  • 5 of 5

The flat was cosy and the shared living space was ample, serving well for a group. The balcony was lovely too and has a great view. As close to the Prorel lift as you can get! This makes the slopes super accessible, but also can walk easily over to the Old Town. Mick and Anne were easy to contact and pleasant, and the apartment managers (Michel and Denise) were very friendly and helpful. Also ski shop and passes available on lower floors. Would highly recommend this property based on how close it is to the ski lift, but also the owners and flat were great.

In the summer the Guisane and Durance rivers provide plenty of whitewater opportunities. There are several Alpine lakes within easy driving distance.

The nearest airport is Turin (1.5 hours) but Grenoble, Chambery, Cuneo & Nimes (2 hours), Marseille (3 hours), Milan and Nice (4 hours) are good alternatives . Calais is 600 miles with 540 of this on the Autoroute. Briancon has an end of line train station (5-10 minutes walk from the flat) with an overnight sleeper service from Paris arriving 0830. A car is not necessary as the lift is next to the apartment and shops within easy walking distance.

The apartment is in the lower part of Briancon next to the Prorel ski lift and Guisane river. It is 15 minutes drive to Italy and the villages of the Sestriere region. The Ecrins National Park and the Queyras Regional Park border Briancon town. The Guisane and Durance rivers merge near the apartment and both have plenty of white-water possibilities. In the summer the ski shops directly below the flat rent out mountain bikes.

Further Details:

Briancon is the highest town in Europe and in July 2008 was awarded Unesco World Heritage status. The old town is a walled medieval citadel and the famous Vauban forts ring the town controlling the valleys to Turin, Gap and Grenoble. The apartment is in the modern part of town with all amenities close to hand. Unlike many alpine villages Briancon stays fully open after the ski season as it is an important regional town. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. A reasonable sized supermarket is 5 minutes walk and 2 hypermarkets are 5 minutes drive. There is an 'Aquapark' 5 minutes walk away and Mounetier Les Bains thermal spa (recently refurbished) is a short drive up the valley. There is horse riding, climbing, mountain biking and karting available within a few miles of Briancon.
