House in Bagnols-en-Foret, Var, France - Set in Own 30 Acres of Secluded Land

Bagnols is about 12kms above St. Raphael and 10 from Fayence. The house, set on a hilltop plateau, has fantastic views looking across the valley to the old village perched 1.2km across to the north, spotlighted by the sunset ,and south to the red rock hills. It is surrounded by several acres of mown grass and lovely trees, with carefully cleaned forest descending to a river, assuring complete privacy. The pool (15 x 7m) is fenced (by law) and is the summer focal point with it's gazebo and sunbeds. Table tennis, boules and badminton are there for the energetic, and tennis, golf and riding within 10 minutes driving. Spectacular walks in all directions and wine domaines within 15 minutes. The sea is about 20 minutes away, Nice airport 50 mins, main train station at Les Arcs/Draguignan 30 mins, Cannes 40 mins, Lac St. Cassien 20 mins. The medieval village of Bagnols has bakers, a chemist, restaurants, a doctor, newsagent with English daily papers, twice-weekly market, and mini supermarket. It's old church has frequent concerts, and there is often live music

of a less classical kind on the village square in the evenings.

About Anderson

This property is very secluded, in complete privacy, as that is how I like to live. It has a very restful feel about it, and is home to animals such as horses, dogs, cats, all of whom have their own place in the fenced farm section, and do not intrude on the main house. One can be self-contained here, with the lovely big (security-fenced, by law) pool and diving board, badminton, boules, table tennis, and lots of space for children to play, plus swings and a slide. We have lived in this village for nearly forty years, raising four children here, and I am always ready to help with local information and translation by telephone, but respecting tenants privacy by never coming to the house or garden except by mutual telephonic arrangement. I hope you will love it as much as I do.

Why Anderson chose Esterel - Fayence

I bought this property because it reminds me of my upbringing on a farm in Africa, and it's seclusion from crowds and traffic. A lot of the countryside, trees etc.are very similar to parts of Africa that I know, including the wild boar in the autumn and winter months. Mushrooms too, grow in abundance near the house in spring and autumn, though need to be checked before eating unless you know your species.

The horses are retired now, and have a comfortable happy life, though they, like me, miss the Jersey cows I used to have here too, for milk and cream.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Calm, peacefulness and privacy, set in rural surroundings with a lovely view across the valley to the old village perched on the hill opposite (a 1.75 km. walk partly uphill from the house). At the same time, only 60 minutes from Nice airport, 25 from a country station with main-line trains, 25 from the sea, or 15 from the non-motor Lac St. Cassien. Lots of lovely concerts held in churches mostly with internationally renowned players. Shops and supermarkets from 8 to 20 minutes away, but chemist, doctors and newspapers in the village.

Within twenty minutes is a wine growing area where one can taste the wine at the various chateaux, and also eat in the area.

Notes on accommodation: Central heating in winter is to the tenants account as stated above. Air-conditioning has never been necessary as the house is very cool, and there are fans. There are swings and a slide for children, and large amounts of space, but we do recommend supervision, including around the pool as an added safety guard to the fencing for non swimmers, even though it conforms to the required standard. One can never be too careful. Outside: The garden is spacious enough for games with so much lawn, plus swings and a slide, all entirely private to the property. There are about ten sunbeds with mattresses for the pool, which is 15 x 7 metres, and varies between a depth of 1.20 metres for about a third of it's length, to 3 metres for the diving board end. There is a Gazebo with table and chairs, and there are plenty of shady trees on one side of the pool, for those who want a rest from the sun. As yet, the pool is not heated, but it is under consideration for the earlier and later months, the summer being comfortable as it is. The pool is strictly for the sole use of the tenants renting the house. The barbecue is on the lower terrace in front of the apartment with easy access to the apartment's kitchen. A second terrace off the sitting room on the North side, has a table and chairs, giving the opportunity for a quiet evening drink watching the sun as it sets, spotlighting the village perched on the hill across the valley. Utility Room: Large washing machine, large deep freeze, lines for drying in the shade or in winter. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels, plus once weekly maid service is included in the rental prices. Laundry service on request. For winter rentals, oil is charged as used, being filled last thing before, and at end of occupancy. Wood can be provided. Other: From main sitting room, 2 French windows, terraces looking North to perched village, and South overlooking lawns, trees and dovecote with table and chairs for 10+. Easy access to kitchen. 2nd terrace to apartment (lower) level with BBQ and table etc.

A peaceful villa near a charming village.

"La Marjolaine is situated 45 minutes north of the busy St. Tropez coastline within an area of peaceful woodland. The house is spacious and traditionally furnished . The kitchen is well equipped but in need of modernisation. A fantastic swimming pool is right next to the house, and the air is filled with the smell of the surrounding cedar trees. A table tennis table stands in the leafy shade to the side of the house, and between this and the pool, our kids had a fantastic time.

An excellent assortment of inexpensive and delicious restaurants are gathered around the charming village of Bagnols-en-Foret that is only a five minute drive away.There is also a small market and two boulangeries. A larger market at Le Muy happens twice a week, and there are many excellent vineyards nearby that are well worth a visit!"

A Delightful Venue in the Var

After rocketing around Europe for two weeks it was wonderful to have the peace of La Marjolaine for a week. This is not just a house - it is the owner's comfortable home. It has all the basic facilities needed four complete relaxation and chilling out; the delightful town of Banyols-en-Foret with cafes restaurants and bars is within walking distance (if you must) - supermarkets are 10 miles away at Fayence - St Tropez, Cannes, and Grasse are within easy driving range forward more exotic needs. This was our third year staying here with friends and we love it. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Villa

If you are looking for a real Provencal experience look no further than La Marjolaine just outside Bagnole en Foret. A charming house set in natural pinewoods. What more could one want than being able to eat outside under a verandah watching two retired polo ponies moving contentedly in the shade, or sitting reading beside a lovely enclosed pool with children splashing safely. In the evening enjoying a drink on the small terrace at the rear with a stunning view of Bagnole across the valley with its ancient sepia & terracotta houses bathed in the rosy glow of the evening sunset. A pianist would enjoy playing the grand piano before dinner produced from the well appointed kitchen. On Saturdays visit the busy local market at Fayence, another ancient town. Or just hike in the forest walks at the end of the drive - there is no need to use the car for that. There are no white clinical modern gimmicks. This is the owner's charming home filled in part with her own possessions. We have stayed there for 3 autumns with 3 other couples & loved it. There is also another floor to the house,

being the Apartment below, which also has a sitting room, spacious double bedroom and lots of accommodation. I couldn't fault it.

la Marjolaine

I have rented the house for many years and each time I return some improvement has been done. It feels like moving into a friends house and the owner we now know well.

It is a homely, lived in, welcoming house and the large pool is the outstanding asset. To have space, a quiet location, within walking distance of the village and such wonderful walks so close.

If you wish to visit beaches, they are not far away but I prefer the peace and quiet and la Marjolaine.

Grandchildren came this year and cannot wait to return.

There is separate accommodation in the flat with all facilities, so the family can have time together, and the oldies can enjoy a more relaxed pace and different hours.

Booking Notes:
To make a booking, either ring or email to confirm the price and availability of your dates, and then you will be emailed a booking form requesting a 25% deposit of the total cost of the booking which is non-refundable but will keep the dates for you (you can take out an insurance for this). Then not less than eight weeks before the date you will arrive, the rest of the 75% should be paid, and a seperate cheque of10% be sent as a security deposit, which is held here until the rental is finished.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days can be flexible, though for the most part, people come and go on Saturdays. Please ask if you prefer a weekday and we will do our best to arrange it. Arrivals from 4pm to 10.00pm if possible. Departures up until 10am.
