About the property

Villa: Pool, garden, in green hilly surroundings, seconds to mountain trails, minutes to beaches in Spain & Portugal

On the green Northwestern Portuguese and Spanish Atlantic border, the villa is equipped with all the modern amenities in a spacious living area that makes it comfortable and cozy. It has several lovely view terraces, a charming garden, a private swimming pool, family/game room with ping pong table, etc, and a natural pool with a waterfall on the creek bordering the property. Mountain trails are at your doorstep and lovely beaches are minutes away. We are located in the Baixo Miño region of SW Galicia at the outskirts of the village of Tomiño. It is well-communicated with good roads to nearby airports and cities such as Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, in Spain and Porto, Braga, Viana in Portugal. It is just few kilometers from the Atlantic Galician fjords and the River Miño separating Spain and Portugal. The area boasts a micro-climate with pleasant summers and gentle winters, where orange, lemon, kiwi, olive and palm trees abound.

About Victor

The owner is a former University Professor of Aerospace Engineering and of Finance and Ex Adviser to International Economic Development Funds.

Now, he is involved in international consulting in project investment with special interest in Renewable Energies.

Although my mother was from a Spanish origin, may be I should have been drawn to Andalusia. I really love green Spain and its Atlantic Costa Verde to choose it to have a home and an office.

Having grown up partially in Brazil makes Portugal, only 5 km away, an added attraction to bring me here.

The micro-climate we have brings us many days of sun and pleasant warm days. According to 30 year NASA statistics, we have as much sun as Valencia on the Mediterranean!!

Victor purchased this villa in 2009

Why Victor chose Tomiño

The villa is luxurious and cozy, with beautiful garden and pool where one could enjoy the lovely open view and hear the trickling water of the creek. The area has a pleasant micro-climate;lovely springs & summers, and template winters. It is green, hilly with ocean and river beaches close by. It is less than one hour from three international airports in Portugal and Spain. The region, although known to tourists, is tranquil, and near all amenities of nearby towns & major urban cities.

Being on the borders of Portugal and Spain, it is immersed in the culture, history, and beauty of the two countries. One would spend a relaxed vacation, and at leisure, enjoy all the outdoor cultural places and enjoy water and mountain activities the area has to offer.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is ample, quaint, rustic yet modern, and luxurious. From the terraces one would contemplate rural activities while admiring the vast panoramic views of Portugal and the hills around. The private pool, the creek that passes by and the lovely garden add to the feeling of relaxing, while being at home.

If up to it, from the gate, you may follow trails for kilometers in the hills up to the ocean if you want. You could go mountain biking, horse back riding, or discovering prehistoric petrographic spots in the near by hills.

Also, the famous Camino de Santiago of Portugal passes just by the property.

There is no air-conditioning since summers are very pleasant. There are screens on all the windows and doors, they can be left open to enjoy the nice breeze. Most of all, take in the stunning view down the valley to the hills of Portugal below. Utility Room: On the ground floor in a separate room, you'll find a washing machine, drier, ironing board, iron, vacuum cleaner etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (except beach/pool towels) and sheets are included. A perfect haven for border hopping

  • 5 of 5

Victor and Nati make a perfect pair to present, support and enrich this property. Communication was very helpful and friendly before arriving and everything was as advertised.

On arriving the house was found to be clean and comfortable along with a lovely pool. We had done a city break in Lisbon beforehand so we wanted to spend some time relaxing as well as little trips here and there. You certainly need a car to get supplies but that is half the fun to explore nearby surroundings. Roads are like complex rabbit burrows but between Waze and Google you can get around until you remember a few routes.

Even though the owner, Victor, lives next door he is never overbearing. In fact quite the opposite and we came to get to know him and Nati well during our requests for information. Their intelligent wit, local tips and historical insights all added to the fun time we had. Victor's role as host culminated in a delightful paella at his house - a perfect afternoon we will all remember.

Our two children adored this house and spend lots of time in the pool, playing in the garden and having fun with Victor, Nati and the two dogs. When we got to the plane our 2 year old said to put her in the overhead locker so she could fly back and stay a bit more. We all felt the same way :)

Highly recommended and memorable.

Wonderful place and landscape

  • 5 of 5

We - three couples- enjoyed our stay in the clean, spacious and cozy villa with big bedrooms and seperate bathroom to each sleeping room and we enjoyed resting in the big garden and refreshing swims in the pool.

But exept relaxing at the house, there are a lot of things you can do througout the day:

- trips to enchanting historical little towns in Spain and Portugal like Tui, A Guarda with Monte Tecla, Camhina, Valencia and a little bit more far away Viano do Castelo and Ponte de Lima,

-many hiking possibilities espacially at Monte Aloia, or a trip to Muinos do Picon e do Folon or walks nearby the villa,

- a few minutes driving to several beaches (we liked the uncrowded soft-sand beach of Camhina and of course a trip to the Isles of Cies, which is really a must,

- trying several Restaurants and Tapas Bar with fantastic and really unbelievable inexpensive fresh Seafood.

But, not at least, we want to say „thanks a lot“ so much to our kind hosts Nati and Victor, who‘re living next door and who made our stay „feel like home“ .

They are helpful at any time, giving informations were to go and were to eat, brought us to a shoe factory und showed us the great view from the big Cerveira and we enjoyed their invitation to a great Paella and exellent wine at their home.

We highly recommend this place. We always felt warmly welcomed and we're sure, coming back to this charming place.

Fantastic location, helpful hosts, superb property

  • 5 of 5

Th villa itself is spacious, well appointed, plenty to do and see without leaving. The owner, Victor, next door, along with Nati, was on hand to offer travel advice and was helpful and friendly in so many ways without being intrusive. This area of Galicia has so much more to offer than almost anywhere we have been, fantastic beaches (sea and river), historic towns and cities, mountain and coastal drives, fabulous scenery. With Portugal being so close, there is so much to enjoy

Complete relaxation and a great base for day trips

  • 4 of 5

Villa Esperenza offered peace and tranquility well beyond our expectations. The villa was as depicted in the photos, spotlessly clean with plenty of beds, bedding, towels, (pool towels available on request) and mosquito screens on all the windows and doors, although there did not seem to be a problem with mosquitoes which was a welcome bonus! The location of this villa offered a great base for day trips to Galicia, Tui, Camhina and many of the beautiful towns of northern Portugal. A day trip to the Isles de Cies is a must (voted the number 1 beach in the world!) ferry from Baiona only about 10km from the villa. Victor and Nati were amazing hosts and were available next door for any queries or recommendations for things to do while at the same time respecting our privacy. I would highly re on end this villa, a car is an absoloute must. We'll be back!

Great base for family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Villa Esperanza is a nice villa situated 4km from the local town of Tomino.

On the border with Portugal the area offers the best of both countries.

The villa is large and well equipped with a nice outdoor pool.

Viktor and Nati are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble and Viktor's knowledge and suggestions were well received.

As a family of cyclists this area is a dream. From the lengthy tarmac river path that runs for 100s of KM along the River Minho to the great roads and lengthy climbs and descents this is a roadies dream.

We even saw the Vuelta come in only 15mins drive away.

Could not have asked for anymore. If you are looking for a great family holiday its an ideal place to stay.If your looking to emulate the pro pelaton it is also the place to cycle with beautiful scenery, cafes and restaurants.

We are just few minutes' drive to many Atlantic beaches (Costa Verde) as well as fluvial and Fjord beaches of Galicia and Portugal. Near the mouth of the River Miño you'll find calm, soft-sand beaches. Off the coast of Baiona lie the Islas Cíes, accessible only by boat, and voted as having some of the best beaches in the world.

Also nearby are the fine coastal beaches of Baiona, Playa America and Samil in Spain. The Portuguese beaches of Afifi, Moledo and Caminha are equally beautiful, and are minutes away.

Travel:

Vigo, Spain is the nearest airport, about 30km away. Santiago de Compostela airport (Spain) is about 130 km. Porto airport (Portugal) is about 95 km away but has receives many international flights, especially in the summer months, Vueling, Iberia, Ryanair, Easyjet, Airlingus, AirFrance, British Airways, etc. offer direct flights to the area airports. Air France also has direct flights Paris-Vigo.

Car hire is available at all airports and a GPS would be helpful. The Villa is reached by good highways and municipal roads.

Distances:

Celtic ruins, vineyards, restored watermills, Portuguese forts, Roman churches, castles, cathedrals, shopping are all within easy reach.
