Holiday Villa in Speightstown, St. Peter, Barbados - Residential Area, 1/2 Km (8 Mins Walk) To Beach
Emcee has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and dining area, living space with (satellite) tv, internet and wifi, veranda, plunge pool and garden area. The interior is large and spacious, probably the most spacious villa in our class. The kitchen is well equipped with cooker, 19 cu. Ft. Fridge/freezer, microwave, washer dryer and the dining area seats 6. The property is air conditioned and fanned throughout. The heywoods estate is situated opposite the almond beach and port st. Charles resorts, on the north west coast of the island. The beach and local town are both within easy walking distance from the villa. Frequently running and very cheap public transport is accessed between the villa and the beach.
On the subject of Air conditioning, these units are very powerful and consume alot of energy. We have imposed a surcharge fee for electrical consumption over and above 24 KwHrs (Units) per day of £0.15 per KwHr. That is the actual cost price of electricity in Barbados. Avoiding this surcharge is very simple. Don't run the air conditioning units 24/7. Shut them down when you leave the house. Treat this issue the same as you would central heating in Northern Europe. If exceeded , this leve will be deducted from the security deposit. You can view your consumption from the electrical supply meter on the house.

Andrew and I were delighted to hear you and your friends loved our villa and the island. We are always chuffed to bits to convert more people to the beauties of Barbados. Thank you for staying with us and choosing to relax and unwind at our home from home and we do so look forward to you returning
in the near future.
All the best,

About the Owner
Kate is a Special needs teacher and I am an Engineering officer in the Merchant navy. My wife and I own Emcee, in Barbados and The Old Barn annex in Beckwithshaw, Harrogate. Both homes are very dear to us and guests have commented on how welcome they were made to feel in the home from home atmosphere in both properties. Indeed, we aim to offer our guests as much care as possible during their stays in warm and friendly environments. We have travelled quite a bit and stayed in many self-catering villas, both home and away and so have gleened from this what we all need during our breaks from reality. We hope you have an enjoyable and pleasant vacation wherever you decide to book. All the best. Andrew Scott.
Guestbook comments from the owner
We have acted on a number of comments made by our guests. We have installed smoke detectors. We have installed privacy blinds in the master bedroom. We have bought a number of specialised pots & pans, a cool box, and a range of wine glasses. We will always listen to our clients or potential clients. We installed Wifi two years ago and recently a safe.
4.3 based on 3 holidaymaker reviews
This was absolutely wonderful - located a short walk to town and beach. Emcee is clean, fully equipped and a very pleasant home to stay in. We were there for two weeks - owners were very accommodating - the neighbors were lovely. We rented a car and travelled all over the island and the consensus was that our location was the best. I would definitely rent here again should we return to Barbados.
An ideal base for getting around the whole island
My brother in law recommended Emcee to us having stayed there when visiting his mom near by. For two retirees fulfilling the dream of watching test cricket in Barbados the villa proved an ideal base for getting to the match, visiting and sightseeing. The accommodation was clean, bright and airy with both ceiling fans and air conditioning in all rooms providing relief in what even the locals said was a hot spell. We used the downstairs bedrooms but were also impressed with the tastefully decorated upstairs master bedroom complete with balcony. Our favourite features were the well maintained plunge pool and the verandah where we chilled out reading and watching the local little green lizards and humming birds. Emcee has excellent facilities for cooking/eating in but apart from breakfast we decided to eat out. Situated on a quiet residential estate less than 10 minutes walk into Speightstown we were well placed for local bars and restaurants, our favourite meals being fish, rice and peas with local Banks' beer and plenty of cricket talk with local characters.
We decided to use buses during our first week for getting to the cricket. These were both reliable and cheap ($2Barbados to anywhere) if somewhat bone shaking. We therefore chose not to hire a car for our second week as planned but were still able to get round the island easily as well as visit my brother in law's mom at Josey Hill for authentic bajan food. The villa owners (Andrew and Kate) were very helpful through the booking process and lead up to our trip and their rough guide proved invaluable for getting to know the area. The local manager O'Brien (OB) was also a great help. Great fun and very accommodating, he arranged tickets for us to be sat with his family at the cricket and also took us to his own cricket club for a social evening where we met famous former West Indies test stars. The airport pickup service suggested by Kate and Andrew was a major plus. On arrival we queued for nearly two hours to complete delayed luggage forms. Our friendly driver Jennifer from Elite Cars waited patiently outside arrivals before delivering us to our villa without complaint. Needless to say we booked her for the return airport trip. Emcee proved to be ideal both for the cricket and as a base from where we could get to know the real Barbados and its people away from the somewhat sanitised environment of luxury hotels. We can recommend this delightful villa to anyone planning to visit the island.
Such a super villa for our stay in Barbados
.The location near Speightstown was was perfect for us.
I do think that people wanting a busier, faster pace with a variety of nightlife may prefer St Lawrence Gap on the south coast but Emcee is certainly not isolated by any means being close to lovely quiet beaches and to busier ones with a good variety of water sports and beach bars.We found plenty of places to eat, although having a car was a definite advantage but certainly not necessary for the entire holiday
Emcee is exactly as the description says and as good a value for money as you will find.It was spotless ,comfortable, very well maintained with a lovely clean plunge pool and relaxing areas to chill. The owner's,Andrew and Kate, could not have been more helpful. They were aware that it was our Silver Wedding Anniversary and we were greeted on our arrival by the most stunning flower display and complimentary bottle of wine. They also provided us with their own "Rough Guide" which gave lots of really good tips and advice about places, attractions and local restaurants to visit. Our daughter aged 23 joined us for part of the holiday and was also really pleased with our choice.
O'Brien, their contact and villa manager on the island, was also very helpful and friendly. He was always available to answer any queries but everything did run very smoothly from start to finish.
I would definitely recommend the villa to family and friends and would certainly stay there in the future.A gem of a find!

“As I have said above, I work as a merchant seaman and know quite a bit about foreign shores. For me, Barbados has that mix of having familiar establishments yet having a different character. Barbados is very safe and the weather is 95% fantastic.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
My special interest is eating and drinking. And Barbados is a fantastic place to indulge those pleasures. But don't bother to pick up a glossy magazine which tells you about all those flashy restaurants where all the celebs go, because we supply our own "Rough Guide". And after 12 years of chewing and slurping my way down the west coast, I'm fairly sure I'm giving some good council.
Heywoods beach, on the west coast, is a 5-10 minute walk. All other beaches running along the coast can be accessed by public transport or private car. However there is limited parking at the most popular spots (Mullins), so we would recommend the bus. Water skiing is available on the beach. I've left Jeremy's business card in the kitchen. His boat is available for skiing and fishing also.
Grantley Adams Airport: We will arrange your pickup and "meet & greet" at a very reasonable price. Due to our proximity to the beach, town and local bus services, there is absolutely no need to hire a car. It does come in handy, but not essential. We do recommend one company we have found, who are by far the most reliable and cheap rental company and they will deliver to and pick up from, the door.
Speightstown: 6-8 mins walk. Holetown: 10-15 mins by car/bus. Bridgetown: 35-40 mins by car/bus. Bathsheba (East Coast) 30 mins car, 60 mins bus.
Speightstown contains a range of food markets, stores, banks, art galleries, bars and restaurants. Notably the "Fishermans" which is on the beach and is very reasonably priced. Scuba-diving can also be organised from "Reefs & Wreckers".
We supply you with a "Rough Guide" which is a result of our 17 year holiday affair with Barbados. Not only does it give you a great insight of the island, you can also save at least £50 per person. Even more if you don't bother with a hire car.
