About Carola Gillham

I have lived in Ilgaz since 2007 and am married to Öztürk (Oz) who built villas CY1696 and CY3823. I am English and Oz is Turkish Cypriot. Originally from Paphos, Oz fell in love with Ilgaz village in 1974 and achieved his dream of living here about 15 years ago. We have 2 dogs, Zibidi and Maymun along with long-eared goats and their kids. We love the peace and community spirit of the village which has both English and Turkish residents and waking up every morning to spectacular views. We enjoy meeting new guests and hope that they enjoy Ilgaz as much as we do. We have a number of guests who return year after year. As we live in the village we are on hand to help out in any way necessary and we do our best to ensure that you have an enjoyable and memorable holiday in North Cyprus.

Why Carola Gillham chose Kyrenia Region

Oz built the villa about 12 years ago. It is situated at the lower part of the village and has uninterupted views down the mountain to the sea. Being on the edge of the village means that you can have as much or as little interaction with the village as you like. There are numerous mountain walks that you can take straight from the front door.

What makes this villa unique

Ilgaz is a small mountain village with both Turkish and British residents. It is 3kms up the mountain and has glorious views of both mountains and sea. A few minutes walk from the villa are two restaurants / cafes. Ilgaz Village café provides freshly prepared Turkish meals along with fresh bread from their own bread ovens. Hoots Bar / Restaurant has a charming vine covered courtyard. 1km down the mountain is Green Heights Park, a restaurant set in award-winning gardens. Along the main road at the bottom of the mountain there are many restaurants and beaches to enjoy.

From the door of the villa are numerous mountain walks to be taken from gentle walks to more ambitious trails, ideal for bird watchers and looking for wild flowers.

You can buy bread in the village baked in traditional ovens and freshly laid eggs.

We have done our best to ensure that Villa Lisa has everything you will need for a marvellous, memorable and relaxing holiday

We have just returned from one of our best Holidays ever. The Villa has one of the best views in North Cyprus where we have been going for the last 15 years. If you are looking for peace and Tranquility you will not find anywhere better. The Villa has every amenity to make your stay stress free. The generous welcome pack was enough to keep us going until our hire car arrived. The village of Ilgaz was delightful for early morning walks if that is your thing.Carola and Oz were always on hand to answer any queries you might have.We cannot wait to return in the near future.

Lovely villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Villa Lisa was our holiday home for the second year running. Everything was as special as the first stay. The owners Carola & Oz make sure things run smoothly without being intrusive. A welcome pack on arrival was very much appreciated & information on local restaurants (our favourite being Silver Rocks) & places of interest were at hand. The views from the villa & pool are breathtaking & it was hard to tear ourselves away. A holiday home we will definitely be returning to.

Highly recommended lovely villa with beautiful views and infinity pool

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the villa Lisa last summer with my daughter and her friend. Owners of the villa Carola and Oz were very helpful and hospitable. They have left a welcome pack for us including basics like bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee, water, fruit and vegetables as well as a bottle of wine. The villa is in lovely location in small village of Ilgaz and very nicely presented. It has stunning views and great private infinity pool with crystal clear water. You need a car to get around, local shops are about 5 minute drive and Kyrenia/Girne is about half an hour drive. There are many local beaches within short driving distance. We loved our holiday and we are definitely coming back.

Fabulous villa, away from the stifling heat of the August sunshine at the coast

  • 5 of 5

We cannot recommend this villa highly enough (although you will need a car). It is tucked away in a quiet hillside location away from the heat, but is not far from Girne/Kyrenia, and close to several local supermarkets for when the generous welcome pack runs out. The villa itself is clean, secure and spacious, with a well equipped kitchen. We spent most of the time in the pool, the view is outstanding, with lovely trees on both sides.

Carola was on hand to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We really wished we could have stayed there another week...

If there was a downside (as this is a genuine review!) if you have really young kids you have to keep an eye out for the steps at the side of the pool as they are a bit rough. We blocked it off with a sunbed.

Owner's Response: Matt. Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and it was lovely to see your little ones enjoying the pool. We also wish you could have stayed for longer. You make a good point about the steps - we plan to re-do the tiling around the pool in the next week or two anyway and will consider the best way to block the steps off from the pool area either permanently or in a way that can be used when we have very small children staying in the villa. We hope to see you and your family in Ilgaz again.

A comfortable house in a quiet village

  • 4 of 5

The property was very clean and comfortable and as described in the listing. The owners were very pleasant and helpful, responding immediately to a minor hiccup. The welcome pack was the best we have ever had. The location was very good for us, being away from the razzmatazz of the coastal strip in a quiet village ( yet near enough for those who want it). We were there for the wildlife and found plenty. We could walk from the door and other interesting areas were very accessible. I would recommend it for those wanting a quiet location with access to countryside as well as those who want the other attractions of a beach holiday. The pool was excellent although the weather was not quite warm enough for us to make use of it! We will be back. There are plenty of restaurants a short drive away and we enjoyed the village cafe for breakfast and one evening meal, although mostly ate in.

Great location, wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

Firstly this was the best welcome pack we have been greeted with and we have stayed at quite a few O/D villas. We had a very late arrival, past midnight, and to have something in the fridge to await you was just the best. Next day Carola made a point of popping round to give us info on the villa, restaurants and tourist spots etc.

The villa met every criteria, great pool, location, views, spaciousness, cleanliness, faultless save a grumpy a/c unit which was dealt with immediately.

We unfortunately never got to meet Oz, Carola was more than helpful especially on our last day and we thank her for that.

Set up in the mountains this villa is only a few km from the main drag where all manor of restaurants, supermarkets can be found, so within 8-10 minutes you can be sitting in an eatery overlooking the sea from leaving the villa, perfect.

We tried many of the local Restaurants but found Silver Rocks and Severner kept drawing us back, the former is right on the seafront.

St Hilarion, & Kyrenia castles are a must do although St Hilarion is really not for the feint hearted plus there must be nearly a thousand + steps so be prepared for an exhaustive day. Bellapais abbey is charming as is the village.

Sandy beaches are at a premium, Algida "turtle" beach about 20 mins past Girne is locally the nicest the furthest of the 3 bays is recommended. Kervan beach just off the 1st large roundabout towards Girne would be a great little beach but for all the litter and broken sunbeds. Golden Sands at the tip of the pan handle is idyllic but is around two and a bit hours away, worth it though.

All in all we had a great time made all the better thanks to our hosts.

Boat trips can be taken along the coast in day-time or evening trips usually with food provided and various coastal stops along the way.

Ercan Airport in North Cyprus is the closest airport and is about 50 mins drive. Airlines include Turkish Airlines and Pegasus. You will have to briefly land in Turkey. Larnaca Airport in South Cyprus is about 75 mins drive. Many airlines fly direct from UK including British Airways, Monarch and Cyprus Airlines. Other activities in the area include horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, jeep safaris, diving, snorkeling and boat trips along the coast. There two restaurants / cafes in the village of Ilgaz within a few minutes walk from the villa. Ilgaz Village Café has freshly prepared Turkish meals along with bread baked in its own traditional style bread ovens. Hoots Bar / Restaurant has a charming vine-covered courtyard. 2 km down the hill is Green Heights Park Restaurant set in award-winning gardens with a large pool and jacuzzi for customers' use. Any of the restaurants nearby have pools and cater for most tastes such as Turkish Cypriot, British, Chinese, Indian, Italian and a number of excellent fish restaurants. There are plenty of supermarkets nearby selling fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables and bread. Many sell freshly prepared meals. The cost of eating out in North Cyprus is very reasonable.

Fresh eggs and bread can be purchased daily from the village.
