About Honor Marks

We knew that this was the place that we wanted to live and build a business from as soon as we saw it. We had decided to sell up in the UK and have an adventure and live in a place where the sun shines ... a lot! But it had to be practical as well. As much as the idea of a remote farmhouse in the middle of nowhere is romantic, for me it needed to be close to all the essentials and many of the nice to haves! Living in a rural village means that you can feel part of a small community but be in a bigger city within 20 minutes. Sometimes living here you can forget you are part of the 21st century and just be at one with nature.(Although English TV and broadband goes with out saying!!)

Honor Marks purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Honor Marks chose Lezignan-Corbieres area

We chose France because of its proximity to the UK, you can drive/train/fly here in minimum time and of course the South for the weather. We chose Ferrals because of its charming rural feel, yet it is minutes from the motorway which means we are truly at the epicentre of all things lovely.

We wanted to be near the beach and I wanted to be near rivers and lakes plus there was plenty of space to put in the swimming pool. It ticked all the boxes that we used to look for as a gite guest - we wanted to live here.

What makes this apartment unique

We love it here, as we finally have space and the opportunity to create something beautiful for us and to share with others. We have turned an old dilapidated wine domain into a family home with three luxurious and spacious gites with a pool. The location is brilliant as we have most things at our finger tips; Beaches, rivers, lakes, castles there is something for everyone. Runners, walkers, cyclists or wine lovers - you can have it all within your finger tips. Whilst we are in a small rural wine makers village we are also minutes from supermarkets and many wonderful restaurants. I think Ferrals is unique in that you can have a little bit of everything in a holiday here.

Please contact us for our website which has stacks more information on offer and even has our blog!

We have always had a no pet policy but as we love dogs and have one ourselves we would like to relax our rules a bit. But here's the thing. Still no dogs allowed in the gites or public areas but if she/he is very friendly and gets on with other dogs, your pooch can holiday in our private garden with Bob our dog! Of course you will have access to your pet whenever you like

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at MdlR, can't think of anything that would have made it better except perhaps the weather! The apartment had everything you could possibly need for a weeks holiday, and lots of extras you wouldn't think of. It was spacious and comfortable and made a great base for touring the area. Honor and Bob (the dog) were the icing on the cake, so friendly and helpful. The highlight for us was the wine tasting evening Honor arranged in the garden with Taste of Languedoc wine tours. We had such a laugh and met some lovely people but the combination of the undulating floor in the gite and the copious wine was a bit worrying!

A week wasn't long enough to explore the whole area and there are lots of places we still need to visit so I'm sure we will return. Can't recommend too highly.

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

It is often hard to get a real feel for a place you have only seen on the internet but thanks to Honor's posts on social media and the pictures and reviews on here we were confident when we eventually booked that we had picked the right place for our week in France.

And how right we were. Honor had been happy to answer our questions before we left the UK and was always around to answer questions, or make restaurant bookings for us, during our trip.

The gite was spotlessly clean, and had every facility you could wish for, including TV with British channels (perfect for a Masterchef catch up), DVD players, heating when the evenings turned chilly, ice cube trays, hair dryers and one of the best showers I have ever used.

The courtyard is behind electric gates which means the whole property is completely secure, small children are safe from any roads and can wander about quite happily.

The village is just off the main road from Carcasonne airport so you can be in your gite within 90 minutes of landing. It also has restaurants and a boulangerie within walking distances, and other towns with more restaurants are within five minutes.

Maison de la Roche is also a great base for trips further afield, we did Narbonne, Lagrasse, Carcasonne, Collioure in our short stay, and always returned at the end of the day to friendly welcome from Bob who would wander over to say hello.

I cannot think of a more perfect spot for a week in France.

Or place to relocate to from England. Which is what you'll dream about as you sit by the pool with a cold glass of wine every night!

A little piece of paradise in the South of France

  • 5 of 5

We visited Maison De La Roche in September. The pictures looked lovely on the website and when we arrived at our gite we were not disappointed.

It's the attention to detail that made this place special (as well as fantastic hosts on hand when needed, pool toys, shopping bags, a selection of books, games & toys, washing machine etc etc).

We stayed in the secret garden gite which is decorated beautifully and is well equipped with everything you need for your stay.

The courtyard are is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine in the sunshine (purchased from the very handsome man at the local vineyard).

The pool is lovely, the kids spent lots of time in it while we chilled on the sun loungers. Honor, Holly (and Bob) were always on hand if we needed advice/suggestions on places to visit and were so friendly, it made our stay even more special.

The village is lovely - go for a morning walk to pick up pastries and sit and have a coffee, or an evening visit to the bar or restaurant is a must. Further afield, there are loads of great restaurants and so many great places to visit. The inflatables and treetop adventure at Carcassonne are a must for the kids as well as the many Vides in the area for the adults.

We had a truly lovely week at the gite and wished we could have stayed longer as there is so much to do in the area.

We will be back Honor!!!! x

Second Time Around – Another Lovely Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit was three years ago with our teenagers and had a fab two weeks in August. It was an easy decision to return – although this time just the two of us.

What was so enjoyable was that we still had more to explore in this beautiful area as well as rediscovering some lovely spots. We already knew it was easy to get to (we flew to Carcassonne airport) and to get around (the roads are so good here) and we were confident that the Gite would have everything we needed and be comfortable.

Highlights were cycling down the Cafe du Midi, our wine tour with Taste du Languedoc and a trip to Château de Peyrepertuse.

And finally - of course Honor was as welcoming and as friendly a host as ever and full of suggestions of where to go when we were dithering about what to do! She has made Maison de la Roche such a wonderful place to base a holiday from.
