About the property

Cottage in Oughterard, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland - Private, Peaceful location.

Connemara is a place to unwind and relax. Why not treat yourself and stay at Dove cottage.Unforthunately this property is not suitable for Chlidren. This delightful cottage is situated on 3 acres - on the same property as Corin Lodge where the owners Miriam and David live. The lodge was originally built as a hunting lodge for "The Countess Mataxa" of Connemara. There is a variety of activities to choose from - take a stroll down the driveway and spend the day fishing on Lough Corrib, golf at the local 18 hole golf course or walk the illustrious "Western Way" through some of the most glorious unspoilt scenery in Europe. Take your picnic basket and explore majestic Connemara where so many personalities including King Edward V11, Maharaja Jam Sahib, Sir William Wilde, his son Oscar and William Butler Yeats were inspired by the mystical beauty of this extraordinary landscape. A warm welcome awaits you.

About David

Having run my own fashion store for many years and working every day as a fashion stylist I work with fabric, colour and pattern am in my element styling the cottage. My husband David and I have lived in the USA and London and our style has been influenced by our travels. As both of us are involved in business in Galway City downtime is very precious to us.

Why David chose Oughterard

My husband David and I were not the first to discover a little piece of paradise in Connemara. As one of Ireland's most picturesque corners, this area has inspired such notables as Wilde and Yeats, even Hollywood director John Ford chose it to film "The Quiet Man". If you can't find peace and tranquility here it is not to be found.

A warm welcome awaits you. Unfortunately this Property is not suitable for Children. No Pets allowed

What makes this cottage unique

Property is totally private, hidden from the road, peaceful, only for the sound of birdsong.

We have compiled unique journey's taking you to places that tourists never see.

It will give us great pleasure to share this haven with you.

Perfect Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here in May 2014. Wonderful visit with incredible hosts who were very responsive and helpful. When we arrived, they had the kitchen stocked with basic food items and helped start a fire in the wood burning fireplace. Great secluded location about 5 min drive from town. Wifi was spotty and roads were narrow (but that is true in all of Ireland). Would recommend without hesitation for a romantic getaway.

Just perfect for us

  • 4 of 5

Simply the best. Dove Cottage is idyllic. It is set in beautiful gardens, away from traffic noise and its facilities are A1. Then add to this the willingness and friendliness of David and Mjriam then you have the perfect holiday. Not forgetting Ireland, Wow. Thank you Lynda and Fred.

What a wonderful experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

One word... OUTSTANDING!!! David and Miryam were so welcoming and made us feel like family as soon as we met! We had tea and delightful conversation and then shown our home for a couple days...WOW!! The space was immaculate and so cozy. There was bread and cheese and Irish Butter, tea and coffee. It was like coming home! I had requested a Gilly and Dapping rods for a fishing adventure for my daughter and I ... OHHH it was such fun. Martin, our Gilly, took us out and showed us how to use the rods and explained the best conditions... the Mayflys were just starting to hatch and the fish were jumping. what a wonderful adventure!!! We had a picnic with sandwiches made by David with Myriam's homemade bread and tea... Thanks so much David for making that happen!! Lough Corrib and the Aughnanure Castle and driving on the scenic drive above Lough Corrib was absolutely stunning! Thanks from the bottom of our hearts David and Myriam for a magical time... Andrea and I loved having dinner with you and forming such a great friendship!!

Irish Gem

  • 5 of 5

Dove Cottage is a real Gem. it was just as described, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. Miriam and David had provided everything you could need, including all the essentials on arrival - milk, bread, tea, coffee - and Guiness! very welcoming after a long journey from North Yorkshire, and problems with the car which David and Miriam very kindly helped us out with.

John had particularly been attracted to Lough Corrib for the fishing. David looked after him and found him a local Gillie. It was Mayfly time and over the weekend there was a fishing festival in Oughterard, with a competition and a fabulous fish supper in one of the pubs. There is everything you need in Oughterard which is only a few minutes drive and everyone is so friendly. If you are not in to fishing, there are plenty of other things to do, and Dove Cottage is so peaceful and relaxing, with a lovely walk down to the Lough just across the road.

We will definitely return as the week went too quickly!

What a lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We are a family, with two kids ages 5 and 7 and we had a wonderful time. The place is exactly as described, very clean, very comfortable, very cute and decorated with love. The children had the upstairs bedroom which is spacious, so that they had enough room to play as the kitchen-living-room are rather small. There is a huge garden, with a long swing in a tree and lots of things for the children to discover and pass the time. Also only a five minute walk down to the lake, where you can go swimming or fishing. The area is very quiet, so the best place to relax from a stressful job. Also a good starting point for many excursions as the sea is only 1hr, Connemara Ntl.Park even less. A MTB trail more or less behind the house as well. Bars and restaurants 15minuntes by bike.

The hosts provided us with all the information we needed. They were wonderful and really made us feel welcome and at home. Especially the children who learned lots of English with David, who again didn't mind their helping hands when it came to watering the garden (or the cars).

We would recommend this place to everybody who seeks a calm retreat with the possibilities to outdoor activities (hiking, cycling, MTB, fishing, swimming) and sightseeing and good food.

Owner's Response: We were delighted to have this family come and stay with us. The children were the most mannerly children we have ever had the pleasure to meet. We had great times and they played and looked after our 3 year old granddaughter who we had stay with us for a few days. Thank your for your kind words. David & Myriam O'Reilly

Dove Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was an outstanding cottage set in the most beautiful location and kept to a very high standard. The decor was just gorgous and would definitely return. The NICEST touch was having the "essentials" - bread, milk, tea, coffee on arrival and soo appreciated. David could not have been more helpful in terms of ensuring we were comfortable, updating us about Oughterard. Would say this property is more suitable for the OVER 40 bracket in terms of approximity to local town! What truly amazed me was THE QUALITY of the furnishings and THANK YOU for that. We will most definitely return.
