"A spectacular cottage in a special place. Your vision has been realised and one which we can share. Great walking, cycling and scenery gave us a great break. We will share this find with others, but not too many so that there is space for us to come back!! Thanks for your hospitality."

Bruce & Jennie September 2008.

"What a fantastic place! We have had such a great honeymoon! The cottage & setting were perfect! We felt so comfortable here that we really didn't want to leave! A perfect mix of exploring, eating and watching the river just flow by! Thank you."

Ruth & Martin, May 2009

"The Smithy lived up to all our expectations and more!! Fantastic holiday with lovely walks all around, so well located for the areas around Loch Ness. Loved the house and especially our canoeing trip. Thanks!"

Shobhit, Debanshi, Tarun & Simonti, June 2011.

"Das Haus und die Lage sind wunderbar. Wir danken und gratulieren zur Idee, die alte Schmeide zu renovieren und zu verinieten."

A truly fantastic property in a great location, a credit to the owners

  • 5 of 5

We chose this property as we wanted a quiet county break but with all the creature comforts too and this property did not disappoint! On arrival we were little later than anticipated but Mike showed us round and gave us a run down of what we needed to know. It was very much as described if not better. The owners clearly take pride in maintaining the property it was immaculately clean and well stocked with, games, books, local (and further afield) information wi-fi and the lovely wine and biscuits. In the morning we were able to appreciate the truly stunning location of the property and take in the amazing view of the river literally on your doorstep.

We were only there for a short while and tried to make the most of our days out and about but coming back to the property on an evening was the best way to finish the day. The local hotel also provided great food and the local shop was perfect for any bits and pieces you might need.

We couldn't recommend this property highly enough and hope to visit it again in the future, it was well worth the 7hr drive.

Many thanks for a great stay.

Cozy, friendly, great base

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was perfect. From the outside, the Smithy might seem small, but the space is so well organized - the whole cottage seems much bigger from the inside. There are a lot of charming details that sweeten the stay and enhance a holiday, like heated floor, a beautiful view onto whitewater and a little diary of previous visitors that give advice on what to see. Also the owner was helpful with any inquiry, enhancing our holiday with some great tips of what not to miss.

Almost every place we stayed at, had some kind of touchy hot-water supply for the showers - not the cottage! Showering was a nice, relaxing experience, no matter the time and how many people showered before. This might be a weird detail to mention, but - oh boy - i did not think about this before we stayed at some other places and it seriously does sweeten the day to not have to fuss about a touchy shower.

This cottage is a very nice base if you're traveling by car. The Isle of Skye is away just about an hour driving time and in the nearer surrounding there are tons of beautiful glens, some waterfalls and hiking routes.

Of the 4 places we stayed in during our vacation, this one was the nicest, thanks to the friendly owner, the great use of space, comfy little campfire and the great, great value for a very modest price.

Thanks a lot! We warmly recommend staying here.

Simply stunning!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for an amazing, relaxing holiday with stunning views, nothing will beat the old smithy. We were blown away by the cottage and views. So much so that we have booked to go back later this year and also next year. Mike and his family make sure you have everything you need and are so friendly and helpful. Giving advice on where to go etc. The cottage is truly amazing, spotlessly clean and has everything you need. The views from the balcony and also river room are breath taking and after a long walk with the dogs there was nothing better to light the log burning fire. We have been to so many holiday homes but this one wins hands down. Listening to the river with the fire burning was the best relaxation anyone could ask for. We are so looking forward to going back in the summer for a week. 10/10 for everything!!!!!

The Old Smithy is "heaven on earth." We often came back "home" to sit in the River Room, instead of touring. The cottage is extremely "friendly" as was our host, Mike. All the amenities needed, but we loved the River Room best, with its breathtaking view of the waterfalls. A short distance to all kinds of wonderful places, both nature and cute towns. We are counting the days until our next visit.

On a scale of 1-100, this truly rated 110 (okay, it was really 115, but we didn't want to exagerate.)

Thanks Mike, for the design, the hospitality and the restful week.

Lovely property - great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday here. The property was exactly as described and the photos give an accurate representation of how lovely it is.

Invermoriston is a great spot, central to lots of beautiful areas. Our favourite was Glen Afric where we had a fantastic day and even saw a golden eagle soaring overhead.

The Invermoriston Arms does lovely food and the little shop on the corner is surprisingly well stocked. You can even draw cash out there.

One of our favourite activities was sitting in the river room marvelling at the river rushing past, especially after a heavy downpour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it.
