Fabulous 200 year old house ideally situated for exploring the estuary, vineyards and beaches

Les Mimosas is a traditional Charentaise house over 200 years old, renovated to an exceptionally high standard. It is located on the edge of the village of Lorignac overlooking vineyards and open countryside, with the Gironde estuary in the distance. The local bar restaurant and village shop are just a few minutes walk away. It has a large garden with its own private heated swimming pool in a separately fenced part of the garden. The house retains original beams and exposed stonework and has been beautifully decorated and furnished in a French style but in a contemporary manner. Due to the layout the house can be cosy for two but can easily sleep up to an eight plus an infant. The house has full central heating available and a log burning stove making it ideal for winter breaks. For the summer every room has a fan.

About Kevin Rampling

My wife and I live in England with our Border Collie and 2 Maine Coon cats. Our family have enjoyed the house over the last 10 years. We are now transitioning to retirement. We just love France. It is great to come away to a different culture, pace of life and challenge of a language that we still haven't really got to grips with. We are looking forward to more time in France although delighted to let others enjoy or house and this region during the holiday season.

Why Kevin Rampling chose Jonzac area

We decided that we would buy a property in France and gave ourselves a week to find one. We drove from Calais to Beziers, back round through Carcassonne and then up to Royan. Suffice to say that when we hit Royan memories of good holidays with the children came back and we knew this was the area for us. We did not want to be in the thick of the beach area and the estate agent had us looking around Saint Fort and Mortagne-sur-Gironde. We chose an old property that needed a lot of work doing on it so that we could shape it as we wanted it. The house is designed for us to enjoy and we hope others will too. The local people have been fabulous and accept our lack of linguistic skill. We love the area and never cease to be amazed at how much there is to do.

What makes this villa unique

Local shops abound not only in our village but all those around. The villages also have great local bars so you don't have to go too far afield. There are really good restaurants about 10 minutes away in any direction. We love going down to the ports of Maubert and Mortagne where you can cycle along the estuary between them, or head south and cycle through the nature reserve. Of course we love wine and have found a lovely little vinyard in Saint George des Agouts. Head a bit further to Blaye for the Cotes de Blaye, or cross the Gironde on the car ferry to Lamarque and enjoy the best of the Medoc. The local cove beaches at Meschers are terrific and not too crowded. But if you like the crowds and long sandy beaches Saint Georges de Didonne and Royan are only a little further.

Notes on accommodation: Central heating and log burning stove available for winter months only (charged on usage). Cooling fans in all rooms for the summer. Cot and high chair available by request at time of booking. Sheet only provided for the cot. Outside: Table, chairs and parasol on the sun patio. 2x4 seater tables and chairs for alfresco dining on the covered veranda. Barbecue. Heated pool (Pool-10.5x5m and 1.4m deep, with pool alarm) in separately fenced area of the garden with padlocked gate for child safety. 8 sun loungers, tables, and parasol by the pool. Large open area of grass with trees and flowerbeds. Outdoor table tennis table. Utility Room: The utility room is part of the 2nd bathroom containing a washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Whirleygig for outside drying. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned and fully made up at each changeover but for 2 week or longer stays extra cleaning can be booked. Towels and bed linen provided. Clean linen supplied weekly. Pool towels provided. Other: The dining area has a table seating 8 people comfortably, with a glass fronted dresser and small desk on which there is a large amount of information about the area and things to do.

Excellent house and grounds

this was our second visit to Les Mimosas and it was as good as we remembered from the first visit. The house is very well equipped and all the equipment is of a very high standard. the heated pool is an added bonus. The local hotel was very welcoming and we visited most evenings, they even cooked a special vegetarian meal for me at the end of our stay. We would recommend this house for a perfect French holiday it is the best house we have stayed in.

Beautiful Les Mimosas

We spent a week at Les Mimosas with our family, including 2 small grandchildren. This is a simply lovely house, designed for family use and providing spacious and comfortably luxurious accommodation. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, including everything you could need in the superb kitchen. The garden is delightful, with plenty of space for play and relaxation - and for us, eating delicious cherries from the tree was an unexpected bonus. The heated swimming pool was a perfect temperature and we all used it every day - the children really improved their swimming. We also had fun playing table tennis and enjoyed just relaxing in the many outside areas around the house - none of us wanted to leave at the end of our week. When we managed to tear ourselves away from the house and garden, we loved the area around and especially enjoyed the Velorail from Cozes and an excellent family lunch at L'Amical in St Fort. Grandpa and his son-in-law found the bar at Le Doublon in Lorignac very welcoming and friendly. We would recommend Les Mimosas to anyone who loves rural France and is looking for high quality family accommodation - if we could, we would give it 6 stars!

Refundable Damage Deposit £300
Stay tax £1.10 per night, per person. This amount will be due to the owner upon arrival. Does not apply to children under 12 years.

Booking Notes:
The property is cleaned before and after a stay. Any additional cleaning can be arranged locally and is not included in the rental price.

Changeover Day:
Villa rental is usually Saturday to Saturday although extra days may be booked if available. Out of season mid-week to mid-week bookings may be available.

Notes on prices:
20% reduction for parties of 4 or less out of peak seasons (September to May).

Prices do not include the local 'taxe de sejours'; which is currently £0.60 per person over 12 years per night. Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Demand for peak summer weeks is high and early booking advised. Central heating is only available November to April and is charged on usage.

Deposit of 20% with your booking and the balance 12 weeks prior to arrival. We try to be helpful with legitimate or unavoidable cancellations and if we re-let the period we will happily refund your payment less direct costs. A returnable deposit of £300 payable 3 weeks before arrival, to cover accidental damage to or at the property (we accept the occassional broken glass as part of holiday life).

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
