Overview

About the property

Mullins Bay, St Peter, - Splendid Location, Only Few Minutes Walk to the beach. Sea views

Surrounded by mature Mahogany, Hibiscus and beautiful foliage, Palm Tree Villa nestles in a tranquil pot-pourri of tropical flowers, shrubs, coconut palms, sweet smelling frangipani, and birdsong, with six other properties. The garden is located on a small natural ridge enjoying cooling easterly breezes and overlooking Mullins, with a backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful Mullins beach is at the bottom of Mullins Road just 900 metres away. Palm Tree Villa is a spacious, single storey, 2 bedroom villa, tastefully furnished to provide a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere during your stay. A raised pool with sun-deck is adjacent to the villa. All amenities (bank, supermarket restaurants, post office etc are available at Speightstown, just a short 3 minute car/bus journey away. Mullins Beach is popular with a beach restaurant and water sports, umbrellas and chair hire all available. A petrol station with 24 hour store is also opposite the beach. Gibbs Beach is located in the adjacent bay southwards and is very quiet with no amenities if this is your preference. Our Vila is Ideal for a family of four or up to four adults, or for a quiet break as a couple.

If you leave the villa and turn left up the hill you will drive through acres of Sugar Cane fields before reaching Highway 2A which connects to the whole of the island road network. There are wonderful views of the ocean from here in the daytime and fine sunsets when you are driving back down through the cane fields in the late afternoon. Turning left onto Highway 2A quickly takes yo to North Point, at the very top of the Island where there are spectacular cliff-top views of the rollers hitting the rocks below. From here your can continue clockwise travelling through wonderful scenery and eventually driving down the East Coast Road, which is an absolute must during your stay. This is the Atlantic coast, rugged and windy and oh so beautiful, completely different to the West Coast which enjoys the softer waves of the Caribbean Sea.

You can drive round the whole island easily in a day, but we would recommend that you to explore it over a few days. There are so many hidden beauty spots to discover and places that you just can't resist getting out of the car and enjoying for a few hours. Everywhere in Barbados is safe and the locals are very friendly. There are so many places of interest to enjoy and tourist attractions galore if you can stay for long enough!

If you head south from Mullins Beach, you quickly arrive at Holetown, which has a wonderful Duty Free Shopping Mall. It is a busy small town with a good variety of shops and restaurants, banks and supermarkets. A short journey onwards brings you to Sandy Lane the most expensive hotel on the island, where the rich and famous are spending their money. A lovely public beach here if you don't mind a walk to reach it. Still further south, you drive past The Cliff restaurant, a first class place for a meal if you don't mind a big bill at the end.

You then turn along the south coast and past the busy Cruise terminal and the Oval cricket ground before reaching the capital Bridgetown. On again past the airport and The Crane Resort, a luxury place to own a home in Barbados and then up the East Coast again towards Bathsheba, where the surfers show off the skills in The Soup Bowl!

Having explored the whole coastline, the next few spare days when you are not swimming it the warm oceans or lazing on the many beautiful beaches, is to discover the equally wonderful places in the interior. Gullies and Forests, Golf courses and Caves, wildlife parks potteries and Museums and so many beautiful views. Barbados is full of so many things to see and do. You will probably have to come back quite a few more times to see them all! Enquire about using our small automatic car while you are staying at our villa, we can add you as a named driver onto our insurance, and it would really enhance your holiday experience. Please ask for full details.

We have modern ensuite showers, comfortable furniture, well appointed kitchen with quartz worktops, comfortable single beds in the twin room and a King sized bed in the other bedroom. Plenty of cupboard and drawer space in both the large bedrooms.

Outside lighting, two patios and swimming pool. The weather in Barbados is always hot and the beaches are beautiful.Look no further, book today.

About Francine

About the owners. We are Francine and Roger Waddell, and live close to the sea at Broadstairs in Kent. We visited Barbados for the first time in 2000 as our “Millennium Treat” and fell in love with the Island, the people and the climate immediately. We visited every year after that, trying out different rental properties on each visit. We quickly got to know the whole island as we toured around in our little hire car, and gradually narrowed down to our favourite location.

By 2004, we decided that we would like to buy our own place, and set about viewing properties for sale on each occasion we visited the island. In 2006, we happened across a property that we fell in love with in Mullins. After a total refurbishment inside and out, we now rent it out to share the experience with others, and update it each year, as funds allow. We spend a few months there each year and never want to leave. It is home from home to us and we hope you find the same when you decide to visit. We look forward to hearing from you. We have our own car over there which gives us freedom to explore and we strongly recommend that you do the same. Barbados is such a pleasurable island and there are so many hidden coves and bays to explore and so many attractions to visit. Remember, Barbados is a small coral island so you will not find skyscrapers and wide carriageways. You will soon slow down to the Caribbean pace and learn how to chill, and the pleasure comes from the island's natural beauty and the friendliness of their people. Come and see for yourself.

Francine purchased this villa in 2006

Why Francine chose Mullins

Mullins is a 45minute drive from the modern International Airport. The garden is shared with six other similar properties and has a shared pool. We have a gardener who tends the flowers and lawns and keeps things tidy. It is set on the first ridge, with cool breezes, overlooking the Caribbean Sea.The fabulous local beach at Mullins Bay, at the bottom of our road, is just a short walk away and is one of the best on the island. There is a Beach Bar and Restaurant, and a small beach kiosk that also hires out sun-beds and sun umbrellas. There is usually a choice of water sports available at the far end of the bay. The sand is beautiful and the sea gentle and warm, although like all seaside places, at certain times of year when the weather is bad, swimming is not always advisable!

What makes this villa unique

Tthere are golf clubs within a short drive away, for those who enjoy eighteen holes or you can always book a boat trip, or swim with the turtles. For absolute peace and tranquillity, just take a short walk (approx. 200 metres) around the bay northwards, and you arrive at Gibbs Beach, where there are no beach bars, chairs or umbrellas, just beach front homes and palm trees and the occasional luxury cruiser! There is a small town in both directions from Mullins, just a short bus or car ride away, with restaurants, banks, supermarkets and all you will need while you are on holiday. If you have any questions just e-mail me!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Palm Tree Villa is wonderful. I arrived with ease thanks to the organised airport meet and greet and was whisked across to the wonderful West Coast to find a holiday rental that far exceeded my expectations. The villa is stunning. Spacious, impeccably clean, beautifully decorated and fully equipped. It really is a home away from home. (The height of the ceilings is incredible - from the pictures I was expecting something smaller. It's like a TARDIS - definitely bigger on the inside!)

The large terrace overlooking Mullins Bay was where I ate every meal which was a delight to prepare in the wonderfully fresh and fully equipped kitchen. The beds are super comfortable and the walk in showers in both en-suite bathrooms are brilliant with plenty of hot water thanks to the solar heating.

The wifi was reliable and faster than mine back home and the Eastry Garden plot, with plunge pool and lush greenery, is peaceful and serene. I really could not have picked a better spot to base myself.

Mullins Bay and Gibbes beach at the end of the road are stunning and, having toured the island this stay, I am sure there are no nicer beaches anywhere, and these are just minutes away on foot. Wow! What a find!

Thank you for the perfect perfect perfect spot in paradise. I will be back for sure. You offer exceptional value and your communication through the booking process was impeccable. THANK YOU!

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Since the pool is unattended and the communal garden/car park have some unfenced areas, we would suggest that young children should be accompanied by an adult at all times. Outside: There is a delightful shared pool in the garden which is serviced twice weekly. This is situated beside a pink frangipanni tree. The pool is between 3' 9" and 4'6" deep and has steps into the water. There is a patio area for sunbathing. The sun keeps it pleasantly warm all year round. There are two comfortable Adirondack Chairs and foot rest available on our terrace which can be used by the pool, plus an umbrella if required. We also have four small light weight chairs in the cupboard for use at the beach. Beach/Pool towels are provided. The quiet garden is communal and has many shady corners here and there, and many lovely ocean views from the west side, although other guests privacy must always be considered. We have a regular weekly visit from the gardener, who cuts the grass and tends the borders etc. There are six other attractive villas, though they are not always occupied and there is always a friendly atmosphere. There is a car park at the entrance with designated car space. Utility Room: Situated off the kitchen the utility room houses a modern front loading washing machine, rotary clothes line, clothes airer, iron and board. There is a storage cupboard for detergents etc.. and another for brooms, vacuum, step ladder, tools etc Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, including 1 beach towel per guest and bed linen are provided. The linen store is unlocked and guests may change and wash additional bedding if they wish to do so. The Villa will be thoroughly cleaned before arrival and Maid service is weekly. Other: West facing terrace with table, 4 chairs for alfresco dining. Side patio, south facing, ideal to sit in the cool when the sun is over the terrace. Grass and borders around villa. All windows louvred with insect frets/bars and security gated front door.

A real find! The most wonderful spot.

  • 5 of 5

Could not have been happier with my week at Palm Tree Villa. Francine and Roger's communication pre arrival was perfect and everything was exactly as they said - except better. We can not begin to tell you how perfect this villa is. Large, roomy, comfortable, clean, charming and everything you need is there. The pool and gardens around the villa are a haven of peace and quiet and the beaches at the end of the road (Mullins and Hobbes) are breathtaking. I really cannot fault this property. Unbelievable value as others have said. We felt like we were in paradise. Thank you. Thank you. We are already looking at our calendar and will be back next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks Josh, we are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday and glad to hear you that you plan to return. That’s the sort of response we aim to achieve. Just one point, when you referred to Hobbes, we think you meant Gibbs, just in case you want to visit it again next time. Francine & Roger

Just didn't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived Barbados in beautiful sunshine, to the time we had to leave, we have enjoyed every day of our holiday. Sean the taxi 'meet and greet' driver was so nice, and told us all about the island on the trip to the villa. He called into a supermarket and waited while we bought some provisions for our first couple of days too. He helped us in with our cases and we immediately felt relaxed on arrival.

The villa is in a lovely quiet garden, away from the main road, and our first thought was that we could see the sea, not just a glimpse but a great view. When we went through the front door, we were confronted by a spacious living area, with high ceilings and two modern chandeliers.

The kitchen was to our right and looked clean and new and we knew that we were going to have a great time. We emptied our provisions into the fridge/freezer and put the kettle on.

The wide patio doors opened onto a semi circular terrace, which overlooked the ocean and the sun was just setting, and a cruise ship was passing by in the distance.

Our next surprise was how large the bedrooms were and how pretty the rooms looked. we were tired after our long flight and were pleased to retire early, and found the super kingsize bed very comfortable. loads or wardrobe and drawer space too in both rooms. The ensuite were spacious too and modern.

Throughout our holiday, we found the garden and pool so relaxing, with lovely trees, shrubs and flowers around each house. We saw monkeys families climbing through the trees, and humming birds, and found out what it was to truly relax.

Our trips to the local beaches were just as much a surprise. Awesome. Sometimes we walked down and sometimes we drove. One minutes in the car, five to walk. Mullins beach had water sports and a beach bar and Gibbs beach round the bay to the left, just a few hundred yards, was serene and idyllic.

There is such a lot to do in this wonderful island and we so enjoyed exploring, that we have already decided to return to Palm Tree Villa again next year and will stay longer next time too.

We thoroughly recommend the location on the West coast and the villa, clean, excellent value and everything that was stated on the website was correct.

Thank you Francine fro letting us share your piece of paradise

Wonderful Honeymoon in Paridise Location

  • 5 of 5

This really was a perfect honeymoon from start to finish. Shaun the driver collected us at the airport and took us to the villa with a stop at the shops to collect some provisions en route.

We arrived at the villa, just up the road from the sea, We loved the setting, the gardens and pool area are really beautiful. The villa is very contemporary and spotlessly clean. The vaulted ceilings and big sliding doors opening out on to the patio makes the lounge so light and airy. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the modern shower rooms were great with powerful showers We self catered most days and found the kitchen well set out with everything we needed.

We explored all over the island in the hire car and found the villa to be in the perfect spot. The air con was great and cooled

We spent many relaxing hours in the pool surrounded by the lovely tropical gardens. A short stroll down the hill took us to Mullens Bay where there is a gorgeous sandy beach and a sea that is warm! We ate at the beach restaurant quite a few times as the food was excellent and very resonantly priced.

We would highly recommend both Barbados and Palm Tree Villa....... If you haven't been yet you are missing out.

Coast/Beach:

700 metres to the local beach, Mullins, just a few minutes walk or one minute drive by car. There is a beach bar and restaurant here, plus beach loungers and umbrellas for hire, Adrian's beach shop for buckets and spades, ice cream souvenirs etc. A selection of water sports appear around school holidays, including raft, jet ski, water ski, canoes, boat rides, banana rides etc. Alternatively, take a short walk round to the left finds Gibbs Beach, which has no amenities and is just idyllic and quiet.

Travel:

Grantley Adams Airport Barbados (the only airport on the island) about 45 mins pleasant drive away. A taxi would cost about US$90 (£60). Have a word with us if you are contemplating hiring a car and we can make some helpful money saving suggestions ! (NB A Barbados driving permit is required costing $10BDS) For the cost of a taxi we can arrange a "meet and greet" service, with our driver standing outside the arrivals holding a board with your name on it. He will deliver your party to the villa and even drop you at a supermarket for supplies on the way.

Distances:

Speightstown, historic old capital, banks shops supermarkets and restaurants about half a mile north, less than 5 minutes in the car or bus. Holetown, all facilities above plus new shopping mall and many restaurants, police station etc 10 minute drive in car or bus (BDS$2). Bridgetown the Capital, 25 mins by car, 35 mins by bus. All facilities plus many buildings of interest, including Nelson's Column and the Parliament buildings and Cathedral etc etc. You can drive a car and explore the island!

Further Details:

All cards accepted almost everywhere. ATMs at nearly every bank, where you can draw cash. Local telephone calls are free from the villa. International calls can be accepted but not made, outgoing international calls must be reverse charge calls via the operator.

Barbados supermarkets stock very similar items to UK supermarkets, and there are different qualities of supermarkets with differing prices, just as the UK. There are many nice restaurants locally, both large and small at various prices and menus. Look in our coffee table book when you arrive for recommendations from other satisfied guests.

You can arrange boat trips, swim with the turtles, visit the caves, go down in a submarine, visit the Nature reserve, or the monkey sanctuary. You can visit the sugar factory or the rum distillery, go on a safari off road trip or even a helicopter flight. We have lots of information available for you to browse through, including a lovely hard back edition of "the Ins and Outs of Barbados" which is an attractively illustrated reference book which gives information, contact details, ideas and events calendars for the whole year.

Just come over and enjoy this beautiful island. Soak up the sunshine and the way of life. Chill out at one of the many local bars or beaches. Talk with the locals and learn how to live at the Barbados pace! A visit to the new Duty Free Shopping Mall in Holetown is great for the shoppers and there are some great bargains. Its called Lime Grove and even boasts two luxury cinemas.

The East Coast is so different to the West and is easy to reach by car, and you can visit North Point and River Bay, at the top of the island on the way. The south coast is different again and has many eateries and places of interest and some lovely beaches too. Explore the whole island, its safe and beautiful, and the locals are so friendly and helpful. Visit the local attractions, talk with the locals. Visit our website for a 6 minute video tour and a proper look round!
