This family-owned apartment is situated in the heart of the Island’s capital Funchal, and within the fashionable Savoy hotel tourist district. A very spacious 3-bedroom apartment, it has been recently refurbished with both style and comfort in mind and caters for those who are looking for that special holiday combined with the privacy and freedom of a 'home abroad'. Notes on accommodation: The apartment is very spacious and is suitable for guests of all ages, including children. Outside: Apartmento Princessa Dona Amelia is situated amongst a large number of local amenities and places for entertainment and leisure. There is a small grocery store located across the road and a larger supermarket under 5 minutes walk away. The closest pool is at the Bright Star Hotel, which is right next to the apartment. Use of the hotel’s pool costs % Euros per person, sun loungers and access to its outside bar and refreshments facilities. The apartment has a large selection of highly recommended restaurants, cafes and bars all situated within a few minutes walk. The tourist information desk is located a minute away from the apartment, making it very convenient to gather details of the island, tours and activities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and bedlinen will be changed weekly as a standard service, however, a daily maid / house keeper service is available upon request and at a small additional cost, paid locally. Other: Apartment has 5 balconies, the main balcony has a superb view across the west of Funchal (including the famous Savoy and Reid’s hotels) and of course the glistening Atlantic Ocean.

Absolute Gem

We stayed at this beautiful apartment at the beginning of July. It was just me and my Husband and we were spoiled with such spacious and tastefully decorated accommodation !

It's in a convenient location and remarkably quiet, we absolutely loved sitting out on the main balcony (1 of 5 ) just chilling watching the world go by. The little Shop just a minute away came in very handy for the wine to be consumed that evening!!!

We walked into the Center which took us about 15 minutes. There are plenty of shops and a nice big supermarket, we didn't feel the need to take a bus or taxi as we enjoyed cutting through the beautiful Santa Catarina Park. We also paid a couple of visits to the Lido which is lovely and clean. There is a walk you can do which goes along the coastline to Camara de Lobos, Which takes in some stunning views.

We have never been to Madeira before and we can't wait to come back, lots to do like the cable cars to Monte, the Gardens,catamaran trips to see Dolphins and Jeep safaris.

The apartment is very large and the photos really don't do it justice, as mentioned earlier it is beautifully decorated and it was a pleasure to spend time here, felt like I was very posh in the big main bedroom.

On the main balcony there is a lovely view toward the ocean, on our next Visit we will bring our family to this lovely highly recommended apartment.

Madeira is a beautiful , stunning island and we have both fallen in love with it, we've never been to the same place twice. We will be sure to return more than once.

Very beautiful apartment

The apartment was very beautiful and exactly as pictured if not better. We tested all the beds despite there being just two of us and they were all very comfortable, in particular the one we used (Master bedroom leading to main balcony) was very comfortable. The whole house was very spacious meaning that it was always cool even with most of the windows and doors shut. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped, you could cook a gourmet meal in there!! Also when we arrived the apartment was very clean and having 5 balconies meant we could sit in the shade or sun at any point in the day. The location is great as you are only a 10 minute walk from Funchals centre and 20 mins from the Lido which has lots of great restaurants and bars. There is also a supermarket just up the road which is good for wine and essentials.

We visited lots of places around the island by bus which was a good way to travel but can be quite costly as the day passes only work for the urban buses not interurban, rodeste or SAM. There were lots of helpful guides in one of the draws in the house. We particularly loved the views from the Eira do Serrado walk, which is easily accessible by the no.81 bus and the driver tells you when to get off. Monte Palace was also very beautiful and again was easily accessible by the no. 20 or 21 bus. The island is full of walks making it great for hikers. The restaurants was also great, we really enjoyed La Pasta and Indian palace. Although we didn't try it there is also a Michelin starred restaurant around the corner.

Overall our stay was amazing as the apartment was better than we expected and the whole of Madeira is a beautiful place with amazing scenery.

Spacious clean comfortable apartment

Apartment is well situated with good restaurants nearby and small shop for essentials. Bathrooms well equipped with excellent showers. Comfortable beds. Plenty of storage and very spacious rooms. We met Sarah on the last day and she is delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Madeira and will most likely return.

Great taste all through the property

It's as described however I was unable to make true use of the apartment as on our arrival my companion suffered a stroke. I therefore cannot truely comment. What I will say is that Sarah came to the rescue in calling an ambulance and offering to help in any way. She was I believe genuinely concerned and phoned on several occasions for updates. I think if she hadn't been there I would have taken longer to call an ambulance and in these cases speed is of the essence, so therefore 5 stars and a public thank you.

Fantastic spacious apatment.

Great apartment with very comfortable beds and everything you need if you want to eat in. It's location is ideal, you can easily walk to the Old Town or the other way to the Lido area in about 20 minutes. There's a good choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs within a few minutes walk. I had a hire car and was always able to find a parking space nearby, 61 cents an hour between 08:00 and 20:00 but free overnight.

I highly recommend this apartment if you are visiting Madeira.

comfort and style

The apartment is in a great location if you want to be near town. The steps at the bottom of the road lead directly to the start of the harbour. Walk to the top of the road and you are on the main road leading to the lido areas and from there, the promenade walk that goes right along to the forum area. This walk is extremely pleasant and there are restaurants and bars along the way.

The apartment is very spacious and very stylish but unlike some stylish apartments I have stayed in, it is also extremely comfortable. The beds are very comfortable with good quality cotton bedding and the wet rooms are modern and well appointed.

There are a couple of nice restaurants near by if you can't be bothered going into town. We liked the Italian Bernini restaurant and Casa del Penha which was excellent.

Sarah is really lovely to deal with and answered all our questions promptly. The price for the apartment is very reasonable considering it is actually 4 bedrooms. The area is quite bustling during the day but very quiet at night. We had lovely sleeps. Very nice main balcony to sit and watch the world go by. We will return.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The apartment is no more than 150 metres from the coast, next to the old port which is situated beside Funchal's Marina. There are two beaches close to the apartment, one to the East of Funchal near the Old Town (10 to 15 minutes walk) and the other to the west of Funchal past the Hotel District (under 10 minutes driving). Alternatively, you may visit the famous Lido which allows access to the sea for swimming in addition to the sea water pools (10 minutes walk).

Travel:

Madeira Airport is about 25 minutes drive from the apartment.

Bus - Service runs every 15 minutes, drops passengers off outside the Casino Park Hotel. The bus service costs 5 euros each, to be paid on boarding (free for passengers using TAP airline).

Alternatively, we can arrange to have a local taxi driver and friend Joao meet you at arrivals and bring you directly to the apartment doorstep for 25 euros and 25 euros for the return. Let us know in advance if this service is required.

Distances:

The apartment is in Funchal's hotel district (West Funchal). The city center is no greater than 5 minutes by walk. The historical 'Sé Cathedral' built in 1438, under 10 minutes walk. Fishing village of Camara De Lobos 5 km. The town of Monte (home of the famous toboggan ride) is under 15 minutes drive or shorter by cable car. The famous Botanical Gardens at Quinta do Bom Sucesso is 3 km from the apartment. The old town traditional market 'Mercado dos Lavradores' is 10 minutes walk.
