About the Owner

Having enjoyed living in rural Devon and Cornwall for many years, we became aware that the popularity of the area was increasingly attracting more and more "traffic", so we decided it was time to look for a new location, with a similar climate, and one that would enable us to continue with the lifestyle that we had come accustomed to.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had both gites for one week. I have used Gites in France for many many years and this is one of the best, in fact it is the best. The owners have clearly given thought to what they provide which is basically everything you would require for your stay. From food items and basics such as oil and salt, pepper, herbs, to toys and games and crockery. Child gates and locks on cupboards are there if required, which is so good for young families. Both properties were immaculate. The grounds are beautiful with many, many seating areas to catch the sun or to grab some shade. Both pools were a godsend in the lovely heat. The games room provided lots of fun for the little ones and in the evening the older ones as we played table tennis. The local village is a short walk or cycle away (bikes are provided) where you can get fresh bread etc. A really lovely holiday and I would recommend and would return anytime.

One week was not enough!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we arrived at La Chouette, we knew that we'd made a mistake in booking just one week. The gite itself, although small, was perfectly appointed with everything you could possibly need and was ideal for us as a family of three. However, the outside space is what really makes this property special. As Chris was showing us around the private garden with heated pool we couldn't believe how much space there was and the shared games room with the gite next door was an added bonus. The area itself is beautiful and we spent a very happy week exploring. Our particular highlights were a peaceful morning spent canoeing down Le Blavet (canoes can be hired from Location Canoe Baud just over the bridge at Pont Augan - be prepared to have to haul your canoe around the locks!) and two delicious meals at a local creperie, Au Coin Tranquille, where we struggled to spend more than €30 each time. We have already recommended this property to our friends and family and will definitely return.

Amazing, peaceful, tranquil!

  • 5 of 5

La Chouette is set in a very peaceful location with wildlife on your doorstep. It has everything you'd need in the gite to make it home from home. The games room and pool were a big hit with all of us especially 5 year old Thomas! As was watching the cows coming in for milking! The gite and gardens have been maintained to a high standard. Chris and Richard are brilliant hosts who will do everything they can to help you enjoy your stay. There are plenty of local attractions nearby that kept us busy. The local shop in Quistinic is well stocked and you will receive a warm welcome. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Our second time staying in these beautiful gites but our first stay in La Vigne. We had a lovely week with plenty to do. The children loved the playroom and the garden. The facilities are excellent with everything thought of that you would need for your stay. Chris and Richard made us feel very welcome. Would thoroughly recommend the arrival meal you can have prepared. the food was lovely. we look forward to coming back in the future

Beautiful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Really WOW this gite, super clean, very comfortable, very private, cosy, enormous private garden with different places to sit/ lie on all good comfy chairs and very nice swimming pool. Great hosts, although they are not around because they do not live on the property, (thats a good thing) they are very helpfull an friendly. Nothing we did not like.

The weather was not so nice the week we were here, but is very comfortable to stay in with the woodburner on.

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

For the second time we stayed at La Chouette in the Breton village of Quistinic. The owners made it very easy to organise and provided very efficient details to travel to the site. The cottage has an ambience that helps one feel that one is in France! We visited in the winter and were provided with plenty of firewood and a lovely wood fire that just added to the relaxing space! We wanted to be in this area so we could travel easily to visit the many prehistoric sites in Brittany and did many day trips north, west and east! The owners gave us a name "Daisy Chain", so we could have a French meal waiting when we arrived... mmmm!! The provision of internet services also helped us to keep in contact with family and friends. The cottage is well cared for, with everything you need (even conversion plugs for foreign visitors!) and we are already thinking of a return visit! Thank you so much, Chris and Richard.

From the Owner

Fortunately, we were lucky enough to find this when we stumbled upon the small, beautiful, peaceful rural hamlet of Locunehen. Here we have been able to sample the laid back Breton way of life, watching the cows meandering along the lane as they come in for milking twice a day, and yet still being able to have easy access to the numerous large sandy beaches and historical towns of Southern Brittany.

The river beach at Minezan (3 km) is perfect for days when you want to combine a walk or bike ride along the towpath along the River Blavet with a visit to the "river beach" and a drink or ice-cream from the nearby rustic bar.

Beaches are within a 35-40 min. (30km) drive away - 30 minutes to Port Louis at Lorient - and offer large beautiful white sandy beaches where swimming and water sports can be enjoyed. Wind surfing/kiting is particularly popular on the west coast of Quiberon and Larmor Plage.

Further Details:

Quistinic is situated in the heavily-wooded Blavet Valley yet only 35 minutes to the coast. Just along the valley the restored 16th century hamlet of Poul Fetan has been brought to life. Visitors may watch demonstrations of rural tasks of that period, take a drink and snack at the bar, and buy local crafts. During the summer months at nearby Pont Augan one can hire kayaks, relax over a restaurant meal, take a pleasure boat trip to see more of the countryside bordering the river, or enjoy a cycle ride along the towpath. Fishing is a popular local pastime and there is easy access along the banks to the water. For those who wish to relax, Quistinic is an ideal location, and days can be spent without travelling far afield. However, there is much to explore within the region in any direction. Seafood enthusiast can indulge their appetites at excellent quayside bar/restaurants in St Goustan, Auray, or taste freshly-baked pizzas and salads. The historic walled town of Vannes with its timber-framed buildings and cobbled streets offer a wide range of interesting shops to browse. Each major town holds its summer celebration: the ten-day Inter-Celtic Festival in August draws crowds from far and wide to Lorient. Most village/smaller shops close at mid-day until 2pm. Supermarkets likewise close between 12 noon and 2pm out of season, during the high/peak season many will stay open until 7pm.
