Holiday House in Bolulla, Nr. Altea, Calpe, Albir, Costa Blanca, Spain - Peaceful Location But Also Close To All Major Beaches

Our house is in an elevated position above the small rural village of Bolulla, offering great comfort, spectacular mountain views and privacy within its own substantial grounds. It is in an excellent position for lovers of the unspoilt Spanish countryside yet is only a short distance from the coast. The Bolulla valley has cultivations of almonds, nispero and citric fruit groves and also supports bars and restaurants. The nearby major town of Callosa is famous for its fiesta, re-enacting the colourful battle between the Moors and Christians every October. The excellent beaches of the Costa Blanca are all at hand with Altea, Benidorm and Calpe being only a short car journey away. Within 12kms are 2 x 18 hole golf courses and all the facilities of the sophisticated coastal resorts, or inland the ancient, historic internationally known mountain village of Guardalest. Heating in all rooms and a woodburing stove makes the villa suitable for either short or longer stays during winter months.

The key factors for this villa are that it is exclusive, offers complete tranquillity but is very close to the beaches of the Costa Blanca and is therefore a great place to spend all your vacations, long stay winter breaks or a surf/turf holiday - book part of your time here and part of your time at one of the busy resorts. Close to major roads, you do not need a 4 x 4 - we have a Fiat Panda.

About the Owner

I am Richard Foster and my wife is Glenda Foster, we are aged 63 and 62 respectively. We moved to Bolulla, Spain in 2005 because we sought a quieter life style and we have not been disappointed as we both led hectic lives as an accountant and an employee of Social Services. We live in the village itself which is situated approximately 1 mile from the country villa which we built solely for rental purposes although we also use it ourselves whenever it is not rented as we enjoy maintaining the 80 or so trees at the property which consist mainly of orange, lemon, almond, plum, apricot and, of course, olives plus a few others besides.

Wonderful place for a peaceful break

We’ve just returned from spending a week at the villa near Bolulla. The property was very clean and had everything that we would have needed (even a hair dryer was provided!). The views from the villa were wonderful and we loved sitting out every night looking across the valleys’ and looking at the stars.

The villa is totally secluded and not at all overlooked. A car is essential but the first drive to the villa can be a little scary, however, once you’ve done it once or twice it’s soon easily done and not a problem – although I wouldn’t recommend that you hire a large car! We did have to pass a couple of cars, but nobody drives fast on those roads and the locals are very helpful.

Glenda and Richard are very informed of the local area and are very concerned that you have a great stay in their villa. Ask them lots of questions and you’ll get lots of recommendations which we certainly took advantage of. We took their advice and headed up to Tarbena for Paella which was absolutely wonderful, we also took their advice about the waterfalls and got there early before the crowds.

We were staying there when the fires broke out (September 2016) and I have to say that Glenda was extremely supportive and very calming when I was panicking a little. Her length of time in the village, her experience of the local area and knowing that they were close to hand if we had a problem was very reassuring. I can't thank her enough for that.

The villa was perfect for us, we went out pretty much each day for a light lunch (paella or tapas), to get supplies for our evening meal and had a bbq every night. We spent the days by the pool or by the beaches recommended by Glenda and Richard. Overall a totally relaxing holiday and we’re planning to return at some point in the not too distant future.

A perfect place to relax/unwind with amazing views

The villa has everything you need, including a lovely pool for your own use and it is a perfect place to relax and unwind. The villa is very clean and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The surroundings are simply stunning and at night the stars are amazing to look at. The local beaches / restaurants are roughly a half hour drive away so a car is essential but local shops are just 5 minutes drive away and stocked up with everything you require. I would definitely recommend to anybody who simply wants a holiday to recharge their batteries and come back looking tanned and refreshed.

Stunning views

Well I don't know where to start really! I will start with a negative if that's what it is called. Getting to the villa, it's pretty high up with some quite challenging bends on a single track road, in some places some pretty high drops! You can see other vehicles coming towards you at points.The locals know the road well so they tend to wait for you. Having basic toiletteries,ie a toilet roll and small bar of soap would of been appreciated. The villa it's self is very spacious and clean. The kitchen has all the white goods that you would have back at home .The sheets and duvet covers were lovely and fresh. The double bed has some spring issues but we moved upstairs and put the twin beds together. The grounds and pool were lovely . The owners Glenda and Richard popped in every 2 days to water the plants and tend to the pool. They were very helpful with where to go. They had a lovely folder telling you about shops,beaches ,walks etc. unfortunately the people before us had taken pages out and not replaced them so messed it up. Glenda was very sorry about it but gave us great information anyway.. The views are amazing,stunning, it's so tranquil , bliss really. Well, is the journey up there worth it, up to your fears of heights I think!!!! Would definately recommend it to families with older children 12 up or just adults. There is just a chain in between the patio and a quite big drop. I would be at my wits end with toddlers or boisterous children running around . I would recommend this villa, but also inform them of the drive up there.My husband and our 20 yr old son and 16 yr old daughter would definately go back . I'm just petrified of heights, so would take a lot of nagging to get me back!!

Owner's Response: It´s been great to receive another 5 star review! We will check out the double bed and if necessary change the mattress. The villa is set in the foothills of the mountains, the roads leading to it are via normal Spanish adopted roads. It is only 20 minutes from the coast and 5 minutes from the large town of Callosa which has a population of 6,000. Over the last 7 years of lettings we have rented to many families with children of all ages without incident or complaint.

Wow!

Just looking for next years holiday destination and can't think of a better place to stay than this villa.....it has everything you need and plus....beautiful surroundings...so quiet and peaceful, yet within easy reach of the beaches and buzz of the coast if you want it.....the scenery is breath taking...I painted for the first time in years....the evenings were so peaceful and the night sky was amazing...I'm just convincing myself that I have to go back.....although I'm not taking much convincing.........just a note of caution do not expect to spend wild nights out....it's too remote...but why would you want to in such beautiful surroundings ......love , love, loved it

Holiday with children

This beautiful unique Villa filled us with such joy - most perfect for children as it provides a cot, high chair, large open plan family area for games etc... and my childrens personal favourite a wonderful large swimming pool :)) - we also loved the aspect of being able to have family BBQ's most evenings which is also provided. It was a magnificent holiday to which we look forward to re-booking next year.

Location

We did not buy the property, what we purchased was the side of a hill which was covered in a jungle of fruit trees. We then developed everything from scratch. The villa being completed in 2008. We fell in love with the area because it enjoys the edge of the Benidorm micro-climate (only 2 degree variance) is in a peaceful rural area, which has spectacular views of the mountains but is only 20 minutes drive from the coast. Bolulla itself is a small, very old world, Spanish village of 300 people. One resident still keeps donkeys. The valley is green due to the river of Bolulla flowing all year plus 3 natural water springs fed from the underground water reserves.

The property is ideally located for those lovers of both inland and coastal walks plus cycling enthusiasts.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest coastal resort is Altea being 15 mins drive. Calpe, Benidorm, Albir, Cala Finistrat 25 mins and Villa Joyossa 35 mins.

Travel:

Alicante Airport is 1 hour drive, Valencia Airport 2 hour drive, Murcia Airport 2 hour drive. In high summer many visitors use Madrid airport although this is a 4 hour drive, flights and car hire tend to be cheaper and allows a night if wished in the capital city before transferring to the villa. Use of a car is essential.

Distances:

Callosa D'en Sarria and Bolulla are 2kms distance. The coastal resort of Altea is approx 12kms, Benidorm - 14kms and Calpe 18kms. Alicante - 60kms and Valencia 120kms.

Further Details:

The local village of Bolulla, population 300, can either be reached by car or can be walked to in 20 mins. The village has a supermarket style shop, medical centre, 1 bar' providing food. Callosa a much larger town, population 3,000, is a short drive away approx 3kms, providing emergency medical centre, a substantial number of shops, bars, banks etc. A starter pack of groceries can be purchased on your behalf if required although named brands cannot be guaranteed. We recommend on your visit that you take the advantage to explore the inland areas of this picturesque, mountainous region with its multitude of small villages offering excellent food, wine etc of the region. We will be happy to recommend to you walks, restaurants, bars etc as we live in the village of Bolulla.

The coastal resorts offer the theme parks, Terra Mitica a Disney style resort owned by Universal Studios and sister company Terra Natura an animal park. Aqualandia a water park, and Mundomar a water park with dolphins etc. Benidorm now boasts an ice skating rink. Calpe has a diving centre plus there are a number of sailing schools along the coast.

A great and cheap idea is to take the train from Alfaz Del Pi 20 mins to enjoy the coastal route (see all the views at leisure) either to Denia a great beach or medieval city of Alicante with its yacht marina, great shopping, old town and lots more.

Visit Valencia, Spain´s 3rd city, a day trip by car and go to the Oceanografic Sea World.

Guadalest 30 mins with its BLUE lake, boat ride, history, shops and restaurants.

Algar only 2 kms with superb waterfalls, botanic gardens, dinosaur theme park, restaurants and cafes.

Available locally are quad bike rides, guided walks or off road expeditions etc

A deposit of 20% of the total price is required to secure your booking. The balance plus a security deposit of 250 sterling pounds is payable 3 weeks before the commencement of the booking date. All monies can be transferred to our UK bank account. The deposit will be returned to you upon departure subject to the property and inventory being in good order.

Changeover Day:
Bookings are taken for a minimum of 1 wk. We can be flexible with regard to arrival day depending upon reservations already received. Arrival not prior to 3pm and departure no later than 10.30am. Baggage can be retained until flight times.

Our house sits in 5,000 sq mtrs of its own land (5 football pitches) the private pool excellently situated for the maximum hours of sunshine but with the benefits of provided shady areas which allow clear site of the pool Supermarkets in town of Callosa - population 5,000 3 kms distant Centrally located for all coastal resorts of Costa Blanca - only 20 minutes from the high class resort of Altea, enormously popular in the evenings of July and August around the Old Town and the equally popular but more cosmopolitan resort of Calpe. Easy access to motorway. Ideally placed between high mountains and sandy beaches. Picking the fresh fruit available from the trees and making your own orange juice for breakfast.

  • Notes on accommodation: Own private pool. We have satellite TV providing all your favourite soaps etc similar to British free to view. For inhouse entertainment we have over 150 books, 200 DVD's and 50 CD's (music) plus family games. We have fast speed WIFI connection. Start your holiday from day 1, provide us with a list of your shopping requirements and we will ensure your larder is ready for your arrival, providing you with the receipt. Outside: The property stands in 5000sq.m of private land, which consists of Moorish terraces laid to olive, almond, orange, lemon, apricot and other fruit trees. During season pick your own lemons for that gin and tonic. The house is surrounded with extensive formal flat terraced areas containing an 8 x 4 tiled pool with walk in steps, for easy access, plus a shallow and deep end. Nearby is an external shower. The brick built BBQ is situated close to the outside kitchen which has a sink providing hot and cold water plus a fridge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedlinen and towels provided. Bedlinen changed on a weekly basis. Pool and grounds maintained at least twice weekly. £50 cleaning fee will be deducted from security deposit upon departure. Other: 2 covered terraces with table and chairs.
